What to do with "tired" clothes...

I have just had to throw away a pair of boots - the leather was still perfect as was the zip but the soles had gone, the cobbler put on new soles but they cracked too.

Thank you all - I now feel perfectly happy with passing on my clothes to the textile recycling bin in the car park.
Sadly I'm also getting rid of a pile of boots. I've got a few pairs which the zips have broken on but it costs more to repair them than replace them. (This was the advice of the cobbler - seems mad! ) Moral of the story only buy boots don't have zips. (I've bought a cute pair in the Moshulu sale - £50

Well, provided the Salvation Army recycles their plastic bags, I suppose...

Our library collects plastic bags for recycling. They seem to get charity bags given to them and will pass them on, so people who don't want to use them get rid of them and I get free bags to get rid of my tired clothes. Win-win, I think.

Apparently bags are not being put through doors due to so many scams.

By the time we've finished with our clothes they are usually extremely tired! We put them in bags (often the ones which come through doors, turned inside out, as they hold a decent amount) and put them in the recycling container at Tesco. They go to the Salvation Army and I assume that they will sort out anything which can be sold or handed on, and will recycle the rest.

We used to get a bag trough the door at least once a week, asking for clothing, but I very rarely had many to throw away, but we haven`t had one for ages now, and I have 3 bin liners full upstairs!

Our local Red Cross shop sells clothes that are not good enough to put out in the shop to the 'Ragman' who comes regularly.

Why not put them in a clothes recycling container. Our local tip has one and I have seen them in supermarket car parks. Clothing that isn't fit to recycle gets recycles as textile waste and used for a variety different purposes such as industrial wipes and cleaning cloths. I think they are also used to make carpet felt
