We have had an invitation to a wedding evening reception in the summer. The couple to be married are in their 20's and the RSVP card to be returned says "I /We promise to dance if you play..................................." I'm interested to know how you would all fill in the blank?!

Not everyone can afford to have everyone they want pinkshoes at the daytime meal. Weddings are sooo expensive these days. Most people ask for money now, usually by a little verse. It ensures that they don't get duplicate gifts and they may want to out it towards a honeymoon. Also most people live together and have most things. It's the modern way.

Oh, I LOVE dancing and this is a great idea. I'd choose Dancing Queen/I Will Survive/Young Hearts Run Free/Do Ya Think I'm Sexy. I really wish I was going to this 'do' - it's ages since I had a good dance - can you wangle me an invite?? wink

Wake me up before you go go, Wham and Fleetwood Mac. We have been invited to a young couples evenig do this spring, a small family wedding with a party 4pm onwards .with a buffet and plenty of dancing, we are not related in anyway but have a common interest. If we want to give a present then money is much appreciated and we are happy with this as its what we do in Asia. Problem is we don't know what the going rate is in this country, any ideas?

Let's work together by Canned Heat

Anything by Nat King Cole - smoochy end the evening stuff! Or Satisfaction by the Stones.
Ah! the days of our youth...

Lovely idea, I've never come across that but last Wedding I went to would be my DD 7 years ago. That was a very informal do in a Pub. Food provided by friends & family, buy your own drinks, no request for gifts but they received some lovely things.

I thought it was normal for you to buy your own drinks at an Evening do. I've been fortunate in that we've always been at the Wedding & meal after + Evening do (no free bar only wine with meal)

I would have to request "Crazy little thing called love" by Queen

I knew the Bride When She Used to Rock and Roll. Can't remember who sings it. Nick somebody I think

What a lovely idea, then there is music for everyones taste, like another Gran said, I would chose The Gay Gordons, used to love that with all the twirling around, such fun.
Have a great time Ruthyo.

Mamma mia and anything from Abba ...great idea ! my daughter's then boyfriend used to run a disco for weddings when at Uni ...great money sense ! He made 400 pounds a time ...when my dad died and left hundreds of CDs and old records, the boyfriend pounced on them as he said he was always being asked to play the oldies at weddings or golden weddings etc and didn't have many ..only the latest music ! I also like a few of the oldies ! (my 'oldies' would be the Rolling Stones though !)

Some great ideas here. I wish I had a wedding to go to so I could treat myself to a new dress and have a little bop!
