My house move

The painter went to Thailand . The cleaner overbooked . Moving day the removal man walked into the bungalow, no knock, my two dogs did a runner for the road. I bought a wardrobe from his shop, it hasn't come in. No clothes hanging area. Chap who installs sky dishes checked the dish here the day before the move, all was well. NO, tv didn't work, no landline no internet - bought a dongle thing- . Elder daughter still in hospital .

And no hot water because I cannot read the instructions for the gas .

The sun is shining and the dogs love the garden

Annie do try and get the fine waived, we all know councils are in dire straits but some humanity is called for in your circumstances xx

annodomini Tue 07-Feb-17 17:10:02

AnnieB, if I were you I would seek out a local councillor - do they hold surgeries? - and bend their ear about the reasons for the delay. I should have thought that you could be excused the fine because none of the delay was intended or of your own making.

Anniebach Tue 07-Feb-17 16:58:58

I am being fined, great.

grannysyb Tue 07-Feb-17 11:19:41

Contact your MP about the council's intransigence. Always worth a try! Good luck.

Anniebach Tue 07-Feb-17 10:05:57

He is my only brother and fourteen years younger than me, there are three sisters between him and me , he didn't stand s chance realy with four sisters all older , when my father was reaching the end of his life he asked me to stay with my brother and the firm because I could reign him in , polite way of saying he listens to your bossing. I love him dearly but often want to clip him around the ear grin

I love my mountains but that hill was a stinker , couldn't risk a mobility scooter on it.

Now I am near a church, the hall ehere we hold Labour Party meetings , the vets, the surgery and the complimentary medicine clinic , bit further from town centre but don't use it anyway .

annie I'm in awe of your resilience. Your brothers surgery is another thing you had no control over, but it surely didn't help! Hope he is mending now and the Council see sense. Such a good thing you love your bungalow, no hill a major bonus. You will be settled soon, all this will fade into history and there will be many relaxed years ahead. flowers.

Jalima Mon 06-Feb-17 23:31:08

If they fine you we will all write and protest.

Oh dear, hope your brother is OK, I take it he is a younger brother from the way you talk about him smile. He isn't in hospital because he fell off a ladder is he?

How wonderful not having a hill to climb, it is OK when you're 30 or 40 but when you get to 50ish like us it is a bit daunting.

Anniebach Mon 06-Feb-17 22:46:40

Iam, I have seriously grovelling to do with My brother, I couldn't find him this morning and little wonder, he was in hospital undergoing emergency surgery , doctor was called this morning and he was whisked off by ambulance to A & E and from there to theatre. He is a stupid boy, he has been refusing a second replacement knee joint for sbout four years because he hasn't time , I sent him text explaining if he refuses again I will go on strike and also clip him around the head .

BrOadwater, I cannot thank you enough for contacting me and explaining about the dongle , it was such a blessing.

Rosesarered, they can fine me, and because my brother is in hospital they couldn't have the keys today' so will fit a new lock tomorrow , hope I will not have to pay for that.

What bugs me is I told the housing officer I didn't want to move in January because it wasn't a kind month to me . She rubbished that but today said - January wasn't great for you was it !

But hey, I love my new bungalow , and no hill to climb smile

Swanny Mon 06-Feb-17 22:32:16

flowers for your patience and strength in the face of adversity

rosesarered Mon 06-Feb-17 21:52:50

I think the council should be paying you! surely you won't be fined? What a catalogue of tragic events.Hope the hospital bound all recover soon.?you must feel that the Universe never meant you to move house. Hopefully it won't be long.

br0adwater Mon 06-Feb-17 19:42:00

Glad the dongle worked out. So sorry to hear about everything else though

flowers

Iam64 Mon 06-Feb-17 18:19:54

Annie, that stupid boy comment made me LOL. Life eh.

Anniebach Mon 06-Feb-17 12:00:37

How kind.

No chance they will waive a days rent.

Today I hand over the keys to the old property, problem? Only my brother has the keys and he can't be found, housing officer waiting to collect them, probably my brother is in Cardiff seeing the consultant or on a roof which he not to do so will not answer his phone . He is daft enough to climb a ladder whilst on crutches , stupid boy .

Iam64 Mon 06-Feb-17 08:37:43

Good job you can see the lighter side of life Annie. Is there any chance the council would waive a weeks rent on the place you moved out of, given the catalogue of life events that have delayed things. I know, council's don't have any money these days so their humanity seems to have left along with any cash reserves.
I hope the health problems in your loved ones are improving and that your daughter remains in a safe place x

Jane10 Sun 05-Feb-17 09:15:11

Where are the Welsh grans when you need them?! Can no one offer to help? I'm sorry I'm so far away and currently incapacitated otherwise I'd be there.
Surely the council will understand your problems and maybe even offer to help?

Bellanonna Sun 05-Feb-17 00:34:13

You sound good humoured despite everything that's going on (or not going on). It will all get settled and when it does I wish you many years of happiness in your new home.??????

Anniebach Sat 04-Feb-17 23:06:53

Thank you all. Things happen which we have no control over, like illness and the council rules and regulations smile

Wales are playing Italy tomorrow , and what a surprise , not one volunteer available, seems they are all busy, yeh grin

grumppa Sat 04-Feb-17 22:33:43

Keep smiling through, AB. I would like to think that somewhere in the valleys there is a posse/coven of Gransnetters who could ride to your rescue.

Swanny Sat 04-Feb-17 21:56:47

Annie I've just had to read your post twice to make sure I'd read it correctly. As Greyduster said, you couldn't make it up.

However, as you said, if you separate the people who are ill the rest is really amusing. I have been in my home 4 years now, yet still have one carrier bag and one box to 'sort through'. Part of me says I haven't needed/missed anything in that time so bin the lot. The other part says maybe better check it through first ... confused

Jayh Sat 04-Feb-17 20:48:23

Very true.
?Things can only get better....... Annie.
I hope that you get some good news soon about your family who are ill.
????????????????????????

Anniebach Sat 04-Feb-17 19:21:02

Thank you for your kind words. Seperate the people who are ill , the rest realy is amusing. I posted it because I thought of the words of John Lennon - life is what happens to you while you are busy making other plans . this is so true yes?

Greyduster Sat 04-Feb-17 19:15:09

My goodness, Annie, you couldn't make it up, could you?? What a catalogue of disasters. I hope everyone is back on track health and otherwise soon, and that you manage to keep your equilibrium (I'm not sure I would!). I'm sure my old regimental motto describes you to a tee: "Suaviter in Modo, Fortiter in Re". Gentle in manner, resolute in deed"!

glammanana Sat 04-Feb-17 18:31:03

Oh anniebach I do so hope things get back on track for you and your family what a list of tragic events to hit you all,I'm sure the Council will be sympathetic re handing over keys. flowers

Christinefrance Sat 04-Feb-17 18:22:05

Oh anniebach how I feel for you, why do things all happen at once. Sorry for all your family members who are ill, hope they recover quickly.
All you can do is deal with one thing at a time and one day at a time, it will pass but you need to be strong in the meantime.

As Jalima said sympathy and good wishes go out to you. flowers

Ana Sat 04-Feb-17 18:18:35

What a catalogue of disasters and tragic events, Annie sad

Sending sympathy and hoping everything will come together very soon and that you don't get fined - surely the Council will take your family circumstances into account?
