You are right, the packing up is more stressful, unpacking can be done at your leisure and is fine, in fact it's quite exciting wondering what that odd shaped package is!

I'm with you Anniebach. I've moved three times, with a fourth move in the offing. I hate packing up everything to move!!! The unpacking at the new house is an adventure.

The whole thing is a nightmare, especially if nobody helps with the packing or unpacking. I've moved twice in the past eight years and devoutly hope it is for the last time. I still have boxes to unpack and it is almost a year since I moved.

During the course of nineteen years as an Army wife, we moved eight times. Whenever we had carefully completed one packing case, someone (usually me!) would decide they desperately needed something that was at the bottom of it! Then there was the worry of finding out what had survived at the other end, as it was not a case of moving everything straight into another house. Everything had to go into storage until such time as you were allocated a house at your new unit, so there was an element of 'overhandling'. In all that time, though, we only ever suffered a broken wine glass. To go back to your question, Annie, it has to be unpacking and trying to find a place for everything you have brought with you in a house that may not have the same amount of storage space. I hope you'll be really happy in your new house, Annie ?.

For me packing is worse because there's a deadline. Unpacking can be done at your leisure. The only unpacking issue is if it stresses you to see boxes around.

Whenever I have moved I have had the packing service and all I had to pack was my underwear etc. It is ages since I moved and the price was very reasonable then. Provided each box has eg kitchen, lounge etc marked on it, it is easy at the other end and one just needs to unpack enough to survive and get around the house easily and then unpack the rest at one's leisure.

I was also a service daughter then service wife so moved regularly, the packing is definitely worse. The last time we moved, 18 years ago, we used a packing service, it wasn't very expensive and made the move so easy. I'd now like to move to a bungalow I would happily put up with the stress if moving was ever possible.

We have always used the removal firms packing services, it really takes the stress and pressure away. You have a finite time to pack and get out, once in the new property you can unpack and sort at your leisure.

In fact, today I've been resorting drawers and tidying things that were just dumped in cupboards and drawers, 7 months after the move.

Thank you, I think the same, I can unpack when I choose, boxes in the bedroom doesn't bother me, why rush to unpack summer clothes , books etc.

Phoned to arrange the painter/decorator would start on Tuesday , he has gone on holiday to Thailand ! Good start, and elder daughter was rushed into hospital on New Years Eve, she is very ill so I am stressed already .

Oh dear not the start to your moving process that you'd hoped for Annie. Hope you get the decorating sorted and you get better news of your daughter, that's a big worry for you

Last time we moved we paid the movers to do all the packing . They even packed my apron and fruit from the kitchen . I love moving .

Thank you for the good wishes for my daughter, she has the scans tomorrow, I can only pray there isn't too much damage to her liver, I feel a mixture of fear, hope and I suppose anger

Sending good wishes for your daughter, annie, and to her worried Mum. I can understand all the emotions. Going back to your original question, I actually prefer the packing process, it gives me a chance to sort out, prioritise and also re-acquaint myself with my possessions. I thoroughly dislike not knowing where I am going to put things and the inevitable put it here, move it there, put it back to the first place. Hope all goes well annie with good news tomorrow.

Personally, I enjoyed both the packing and unpacking, as every box gave me a feeling of achievement! Am I a bit odd?
