Shopping in your p.j.s

I personally just don't care what I look like sometimes, and so what. Im neither depressed nor un-motivated. Im secure enough not to give a flying feck what others think. People should just get on with their own business and leave others to do what they want. If this was the case then the world would be a much better place. These photos and posts all over the place just go to show how ridiculously judgy/unfulfilled others are.

My first thought was that many people who are depressed find it very difficult to get motivated to do things such as getting dressed and brushing their hair in the morning. While it is probably only a small minority of those out and about in PJs, it could be hard to know who is in this situation - but making comments, shaking our head or taking photos could make that person feel a lot worse.
I don't think taking photos and publishing them on FB or elsewhere is acceptable at all and would it extend to those in bikinis, low-slung jeans or any other style we personally found a bit odd/unattractive ....? There are many looks which some of us clearly find less appealing than PJs and dressing gowns.
On the other hand, taking the time to get dressed to go out as well as choosing the type of clothes we wear (eg colourful, smart etc)can have a positive effect on how we feel.
There is some interesting research on "enclothed cognition" relating to this.

I would not even walk down the garden path to put the rubbish out in my pyjamas, never mind go shopping etc.

Lazy, immodest and lacking in self pride.

It would be interesting to know why those who actually go shopping to the local supermarket in their PJs (as distinct from those who don't care about seeing them) don't get dressed at some point during the day.

Obviously what people wear and do in the privacy of their own homes is none of my business but I for one wouldn't want people dressed in nightwear during the day outside the home to become the norm.

The same applies to "loungewear" where it looks like nightwear.

Telling people to dress in day wear during the day seems perfectly reasonable.

I agree it is inpleasant if people smell dirty but some people have medical condition that might cause odour,others may have housing /money difficulties that make it hard to wash clothes/self. Those not in difficult situations need to be wary of being too judgemental if unaware of facts.

I think there are worse things to go shopping in. I wouldn't complain - each to their own.

I would never do it myself, however, it doesn't bother me what other people wear. I find it far worse when people walk past you and they stink.

I saw the picture about Tesco, two girls in their PJs I commented on the article and was surprised how many people approved, I too must be showing my age, but I dont see why people are so lazy these days and cant be bothered to get dressed before going out I did suggest that we didnt see what time of day it was, and maybe they had run out of condoms!! I was cheecky but so were they!

I've seen people attired in a lot worse in our local supermarket so no, PJs don't bother me.

Old school to smarten yourself up? ie wash your face? have a shower? or apply fresh makeup ? that is unless one has been sitting on one's backside all day doing nothing other than watching tv then I would say it is out of respect for the one you are going to share your meal with and not up to any one else to question it.
Like the pj's in Tesco.I view it as slovenly but what harm did it do to anyone.? Who am I to question the wearers reason for doing so.
If they went shopping 'starkers' is another matter.

Seeing the two ladies from the link shopping in Tesco's was not as bad as seeing a couple of oversized ladies sporting stretch leggings showing every lump and bump they had whilst in a local supermarket a while ago, at least those two ladies in Tesco's had what looked like decent figures.
As soon as I get in from work I change into my PJ's or onesie there is nothing better than getting nice and cosy these dark evenings after being at work all day.

l have only see one once when we had a caravan on a lovely site.l was horrified,that was six years ago

I too am another one who sleeps in her "Birthday Suit", when I get up it depends what I've got planned, nice leisure bottoms & t-shirt if showering & going out later. If not jeans, t-shirt & fleece at this time of year, shower at night before bed, can't see the point of a morning shower if I'm spending the day in the garden, possibly getting "sweaty"

I have a pair of fleecy PJs which I take to DM's for my winter visit & put these on when I get up - ok to open the door in them as they are more lounge wear.

I wouldn't go shopping in my Lounge Wear though, DH used to wear jogging bottoms most of the time as he found them very comfortable, not the height of fashion though

I was sitting in the car whilst H was popping in to a shop when I saw a man dressed in a bathrobe and slippers walking up the street having just come out the shop, cigarettes? about 50y old not a care in the world. This was yesterday.

Oh paddyann! " redo my face before I start dinner", not just your make up but your whole face. Do you have a resident plastic surgeon who does quickies or is it polyfiller?

If I did that it would take me so long I'd never get in or out of my PJs.

Slightly off-topic but my husband helps Reception class children with their reading. At his last session a little boy asked him why he was wearing his pyjamas. He was wearing a striped shirt and normal grey trousers!

Regarding PJ's in supermarkets etc., personally I wouldn't do it. Don't really like it. It may be OK for celebs who look good and glamourous as most wear the best and their fashion doesn't seem look as bad. I always remember when trousers with fly zips became fashion for women, usually only for men at one time. I thought disgusting at the time, but now always wear fly zip trousers and jeans! Can't say I would want pj's to become too fashionable though. I always get nice compliments about how nice I look and maybe I'm a bit snobbish about my views as it takes certain brave types wear pj's in supermarkets, sometimes slovenly. Standards have definitely slipped nowadays.

I have just showered ,am made up/ jewellery on but not going out am wearing cotton pull on patterned trousers from summer and T shirt...which looks no different from my pj's..Am cooking roast ,doing housework...I like to be comfortable move freely and not spoil better clothes..these will be in wash basket tonight...sleep in nuddy....and change sheets 2/3 times a week as the dog shares with us

Just a shower & perfume for bed!

Leisure wear has become an obsession with me since arthritis arrived, I love clothes with dual purpose and no fastenings. Why do we have this hang up about what other people wear?

If we wear leisure wear from some designer range, we are chic and can go anywhere in our posh kit, and if we are by the freezer cabinet in our patterned PJ's we are condemned.

Basically it is fabric we are talking about.

My black house trousers and top, I sleep in or lounge in and nip out in too if the fancy takes me.........shouldn't think anybody takes a blind bit of notice (maybe they marvel at how much fabric there is to be had in pyjamas} but I don't look at women in business suits and think how manly they look, we have got over that, and women in trousers we are all used to now.

I dread being old enough to have some fool of a carer wanting me to change clothes twice a day, we sleep in leisure wear can go 24 hours and still be decent.

Mostly this is about judging other women on PJ's from Primark, so poor women then, the Channel clad ones will get away with it and the sodding headmistress will be sucking up the them at the school gates.

Why are we being so judgemental? Im 80 and accept people for how they are. whats so different about track suits. We accept them so why not pjs.

Difficult one this. As mentioned the name is now 'leasure wear'. have to say some of my PJ bottoms are fleece like and probably would not be given a second look if I wore them to the supermarket with a wrap and ordinary shoes.

Oh and I put PJs on as soon as I get home from work...far more comfortable than my work clothes.
