Men can have a very different coping mechanism to women sometimes although I am not speaking generally. Would he have normally washed the cups? or is he the kind of man that thinks shopping, washing up etc. is "women's work"?
Maybe he is feeling so sad that he has lost interest in the everyday practicalities. Would a gentle nudge help? Is he the type of man that needs to be told reminded of what needs doing?
I agree with Grannyknot do rant away (here) but not at your husband that won't solve anything.
