Holidays near home.

a change of sink my late mother used to say,our family holidays were never far away just down the Clyde coast from our Glasgow home .We always had a ball though,and I'm much the same now quite happy to get away for dinner B and B even an hour away,and I leave the mobile phone at home

For me its time - if its more than a day and we are staying in an hotel or other accommodation rather than relatives its a holiday wherever it is.

We had a caravan about 20 mins drive away from home, it was in the countryside at the side of a lake and we felt a hundred miles from home. Last year we took the whole family to CenterParcs a few minutes drive from home again it could have been the other end of the country. Just a change of scenery is so relaxing.

When we had our cabin cruiser we would go away for a week and only be twenty miles away

For me it has to be further than anywhere you would drive to for a day trip. We will drive up to two hours for a day at the seaside - say, to Scarborough from here but we prefer the coast further North up to Whitby and there and back in a day is really too far so it has to be a short break. As for the countryside, we can fall out of bed into the Peak District, but for the Yorkshire Dales, it has to be at least a weekend. A proper holiday, though, is anywhere it takes you most of the day to get to; Scotland, West Wales, the West Country.

It's not the distance it's the location. Living in Londn, anywhere with countryside or seaside is a holiday, it doesn't have to be far away.
