I find it interesting that (so far) no one has criticised prostitution per se. In fact most seem to applaud the women in the programme. It seems to be the very significant difference between those forced onto the streets compared to those willing to sell their services in safe conditions.

Jalima, no I hadn't heard of Cynthia Payne, I guess we were too busy raising a family around that time. So I guess i have led a sheltered life.

If brothels like this were commonplace, there would not be a demand for illegal street girls working against their will and in dangerous conditions.

I watched it and was enthralled , the `girls` seemed so happy and comfortable with themselves and it was said that the very large lady was very popular with the punters . They earned good money in reasonable surroundings and were safe , better working conditions than a zero hour contract with Tesco! Good luck to them .

It was a very cosy set up with no bitchiness, cups of tea with the clients etc. What made me chuckle was when the girls invited the men to "follow me"! The view was like a total eclipse!
The mum and daughter owners were very enterprising, buying a campervan in order to capture the lorry park business.
I bet there aren't many brothels that are so cosy and friendly for the girls.

Eye opener is certainly the best way to describe it but extremely funny too. My OH was a sailor and thought he had heard or seen most things but even he was . He recently got one of those circular cutters seen on the programme to make an entrance to a bird box he made for me wonder what project he will use it for next?

I haven't seen the programme, but have heard Cynthia Payne give a very entertaining and enlightening talk at a ladies' night at our local cricket club. The one thing that stuck with me was her saying that no woman needs to do her own housework. Apparently there are plenty of men out there who like to be ordered about so much they will keep your house pristine and pay you for the privilege

With this subject, I suppose I should say at the outset that I am a man. I watched part of the programme and thought it was interesting. It seemed like a very down-to-earth solution to an age-old problem with insights into the men, the women and the entrepreneur. The surroundings were pretty dismal, especially when compared with the high-end hotels used for similar liaisons by wealthy businessmen in New York, the subject of another Channel 4 film documentary some time ago. I suspect, though, that the Sheffield venue was more relaxed and less open to bribery and corruption. It all reminded me a little of Cynthia Payne in Streatham many years ago.

Sex seems to be such a common place activity these days, only one step on from shaking hands. What happened to it being a special activity between lovers.

Slightly off piste. I was watching the tennis on Eurosport yesterday and in the commercial break they advertised a website, can't remember the name of it, where you could meet an unknown partner for sex. There was a good looking girl lolling on a bed in skimpy undies. I was worried if any young female followed this up she could become pregnant (perhaps unlikely) get an STD, be raped if she changed her mind, be murdered being the worst scenario. All of this in order to have as they said 'a sensual experience' with a stranger, who could be some awful weirdo wanting free sex.

The advertisement was so matter of fact. It made me want to weep that we have got to such a low a point IMO in the 21st century.

I am not against brothels if the women or men are not coerced in any way to offer their services.

Well it made me laugh but my husband looked horrified and in the end, decided it was time for a nap!

Tanith Do you mean about the motohome? If yes, if you think about it it makes sense. We were told by the 'working girls' that if business was a bit slow in a certain area and brisk in another you could just move to where the action was.

I think they got the idea of the motohome from Eastern Europeans, that form of entertaining clients is very popular.

The programme changed my view of the sex industry. If brothels were run like this, what harm is there. The working conditions are good, the women are not forced to work and appear to be well paid. They offer a service that makes people happy. Provided they are discreet and licensed I see no problem.

AND, I'm sure that there are women who would like a similar service, but perhaps not a chubby older masseur.

I wonder if they do gift tokens ?

I watched a little of the repeated programme last night but I gave up because I had problems understanding the "girl's" accents. I expected the "girls" to be many years younger than some who were in their 50's. They certainly were not forced to work there and their working conditions appeared to be good.
