#losing the plot

All the time! The funniest thread yet. I am delighted to see my daughter beginning to do the things she used to laugh at me for doing
I came home yesterday to find food burning on the stove and with her words (mum you are going to burn the house down one of these days) ringing in my ears went to find her and get my own back.

Books books books. If I am ordering from Amazon they tell me I have already bought it. If I go to other sites they don't and I think ooo that sounds good, buy it, and start reading it only to find it rings a bell deep in the grey stuff. Oh dear already got it. Charity shop does well with brand new books

I used to do this all the time with magazines. I don't read them any more since I bought my lap top but it used to make me feel really stupid. I was always absent minded so I can't always decide if I am getting worse or just being me.

Falcon bird i frquently cant place people when I meet them out of context and hope for clues. There's a story about a famous British composer (i forget which one) who met a vagely familiar woman at a reception and desperately looked for clues: How are you ? - very well - How are the children? - They are well too - and your husband ? - yes he's well - (in desperation) Is he still in the same job? - Yes, he's still King!

No I am with you on this one, keep giving stuff to the charity shops and then sometime later buying it back again! Also was having some dental work d one and had a temporary set of top teeth. Couldn't find them anywhere, searched high and lw so I dashed down to the supermarket with a scarf wrapped around my face. Got home and there they were grinning a me on the table?

Not quite the same, but my OH will never let me forget that i bought 2 halves of cucumber in one supermarket shop.

I bought something the other day and was surprised to find already have it. Now I am racking my brains to remember what it was ...
I did a big weed of clothes on Sun to make a bit of room in my wardobe so I can see what I have Have also 'categorised'a bit .Irs not that I buy duplicates but I find I have really nice clothes I never wear because I've forgotten I have them
Am wearing very nice cashmere jumper as I write (I have two identical I bought ages ago and forgot I had ,possibly because its usually too hot for them but it is freezing here today ...) Good to give it an airing !
Off to garden to hang out washing before I forget

Over Christmas we booked a number of slots from Tesco home delivery. To reserve the slot we always put down three wine boxes to get over the £40 min. and then delete them when we fill out the real order. You guessed it, three lonely wine boxes delivered this week. DH says he forgot....at least that's his story.

Stansgran I can relate to that. Many years ago when you had to go to a travel agent to book a flight I booked ours and didn't look at the paper work. It was only discovered when we got to the airport and I was lookiing at departure times.

I confess to owning 2 identical blouses. I saw one in a shop and thought how nice it was - forgot that I'd already got it !

OH thank heaven! I really did start to think it was just me so it's very comforting to know I'm not alone.

Yes well it's a nice day so I thought I'd hang the washing out. I can't find the linen basket. Not so much a basket, more a great big, bright pink, plastic tub. Why can't I see it. It must be somewhere. It's only a little house....

I acknowledge many of these experiences but I now write everything down. It's a chore but it works for me and , like many things, where it started out as an absolute irritant it's now second nature and so helpful. go for it!

I almost bought a lovely pair of shoes I saw in a shop window, but being sensible I couldn't really afford them. Lucky because a few days later, I found the exact pair in my wardrobe, never worn.(smile)

Love this thread. I met someone from my working past a while ago in a supermarket. The thing was I had no idea who she was. She seemed to know all about me and I was getting all hot and bothered wondering who the heck this total stranger was. After about five minutes I suddenly twigged. It was her voice that did the trick. I tentatively used her name during the conversation and she didn't contradict me. My bewilderment when she was asking about my family etc., was total.

Reminds me of my father in law who always had fantastic holidays but could never tell us where he'd been....he lived to a ripe old age...? Maybe we shouldn't take ourselves too seriously!

You have all made me smile in recognition, the mysterious food in the freezer, the books already read but forgotten, the donated clothes rebought, the films/ plays reseen but only recognised as play commences, etc., etc.
Last year,I bought theatre tickets twice for the same play, same date, as I didn't want to miss the discount offered!
Have just bought beautiful half priced Christmas cards from The National Gallery. Will I remember next year? Have written note to self( for Nov 2017) in phone diary , stating where the lovely cards have been stored.....
And I am convinced I still have photographic memory!

Not just you. DH and I agreed that we would go to Malta in February flying locally, good timing on the flights for seven days and four star hotel. The travel agent gave a print out and I left him on the pooter sorting it out. So why are we going to Venice in March from an entirely different airport?

Asking for directions, by the time the person has finished telling me which way to go I have forgotten what they said.
Seeing people out of context too, if I see someone from the library where I volunteer in the supermarket I cannot remember their name.

Daphnes post made me smile. The times I have been in a charity shop and thought: ooh, that looks nice, and then the brain says " you bloody fool, you donated it"

Oh, this thread makes me feel so much better. It's so good to know I'm not the only daft beggar in the village.

Our library also tells you if you have taken out a book before which is very helpful.

This is all very comforting - to know you're not alone. I know many people here don't like Amazon, but at least they warn you if you've already bought a book or CD if you try to buy it again. (Or is that just for downloads onto the Kindle?)

I sometimes look through my clothes and am amazed to find a top or a pair of trousers that I have no memory of buying - or finding something I had put in the charity bag as a really bad buy only to find it is really nice. I've spent hours looking for a particular garment but never find it and can only conclude that I've thrown it away. When we're young this is all "a bit of a laugh" but when we get older we are inclined to worry more about these things.
