I am going to have my DS call the men in the white van! I went to purchase some soya capsules, to help with these menopause symptoms. I was sure I already had done so, so looked for the packet. No, nowhere to be seen. None in my drawer, none in the cupboard, none on the table. Oh well, I'll get some then. Not cheap, not expensive but money better spent if already got some, obviously.

Packet came yesterday, yippee, took a couple, over the day, ok. Then, just now, coming back in from the kitchen, a packet of the very same capsules sitting on my tea trolley! Why hadn't I seen it? So, 120 capsules now to get through! hmm

I do this all the time, especially with dvd's and cd's. I buy them, thinking I haven't got them and then I find out (usually from a laughing DS) that I already had a copy.

Do other people buy replicas and then find the original? Or am I really going to the dogs? confused

I lost my purse after a shopping trip and I was frantic, 'cos it had all my cards in it, including bus pass. I looked everywhere, and phoned my local supermarket, but no one had handed it in.
I thought I would make a comforting cuppa while I decided what to do, so I opened the fridge for some milk and there was my purse, sitting there, cool as you like!

All this is so familiar. Had dog at vet for her six month check up and injections. Asked for more anti worm tablets, paid for them then walked out without waiting to pick them up from the dispensary. After a couple of days they sent me a text to say they were ready for collection! Picked them up, came home and found I already had enough for next two doses which I had forgotten about. Don't get me started about buying the same thing twice! It must be an age thing as I used to be able to multi-task without ever getting in a muddle ☹️

I hate to tell you ladies and one gentleman but there are not enough care homes around to look after us lot!

There are tears of laughter running down my face.

I saw a bargain in M&S on line last week and ordered it for pick up at my local foodstore tomorrow. Of course today I could not remember what I had ordered so I obviously needed it desperately. Found the order form and it was for 2 pairs of trousers sale price a tenner each.

I bought my Christmas cards early this year (last year now!) - I still haven't found them. I had to buy another lot and hope the originals turn up in time for next Christmas.

Also bought a pack of mini chocolate Santas for my grandson to have a Father Christmas hunt - haven't found those either.

And I frequently make a pot of tea and then can't remember if I've drunk it or not - I have to check the teapot and see if it is full or empty!

DaphneBroon your post really made me laugh ?

Jayanna9040 Thu 05-Jan-17 15:50:07

Daisy, it was Sabine Baring-Gould, the writer of Onward Christian Soldiers who did not recognise his own son. To be fair I think he had a number of them!

wearing identical shoes - except that one was black and the other navy.
I did that anno - except that my boss did comment! He thought it was very funny.

Lewlew Thu 05-Jan-17 15:05:44

Jalima and DaphneBroon and all fellow senior 'hour' friends grin grin grin grin

Jalima Thu 05-Jan-17 15:02:31

DaphneBroon that made me chuckle.

Yes, I spent ages looking for something just before Christmas. I knew I had it, exactly where it should be and I needed it.
DH said 'I thought you sent it to the charity shop the other week'
I wondered whether to go and buy it back.

I spent a long time searching for my car when I came out of the shopping centre. In the end I phoned DH and said I thought it had been stolen. He said 'it's sitting on the drive, you took my car'.

chrissyh Thu 05-Jan-17 14:58:23

We had some friends coming for New Year's Eve and I wanted my red place mats. DH and I searched every drawer and cupboard (or so we thought) - event went up in the loft. Nothing. A couple of days later we opened a drawer and there they were. This sort of thing often happens - I'm sure there are goblins around making mischief it can't be us!

Thank goodness ,this has made me feel so much better . Last month I received two text messages saying that my Sainsbury delivery will be delivered , one a 1pm and one at 9 pm ! I had done a duplicate order in two days. I'm blaming Christmas ! Luckily I was able to cancel one in time .
Always watching TV programmes that after about 10 minutes they seem very familiar to something I'd watched before - trouble is DH insists he hasn't seen it so. End up wondering who is losing it !

Lewlew Thu 05-Jan-17 14:50:31

I had to go up into the loft as husband has bad knee to get the boxes down to put the Christmas deccies away.

What do I find? Boxes of crackers... you know they come in sixes and we usually have eight people, so the other four stay in the box and live up there. Some look like those I got years ago! Why do I not remember this?

Same with gift bags and wrapping paper. He says he doesn't see any when we go up for the decorations, but there they were... at least a dozen booze bags and rolls of wrapping paper stuffed into the loft corner.

Since knee is still bad, I have put all the decs in a corner here in the lounge. They are not going up until the loft gets a good clearout. Who knows what else is up there. (Hehehe...found a baby pic of DH when he was Prince Charming on a float in his little Welsh town after the war!) grin

This has to be the funniest post. How much better it's made me and everyone else feel. Thank goodness we're all going dotty together. ???

I've always thought I was absent-minded. Now I'm reassured! My best effort was turning up for a meeting with the head of a school where I chaired the governors, wearing identical shoes - except that one was black and the other navy.blush She didn't comment.

I do most of theses things, people in unlikely places - been like that for years although I used to work as a barmaid & could remember not only details of customer but their family as well. Once bumped into a Lady whilst we were visiting a NT Property in Hampshire (I worked in Surrey), she said "oh fancy seeing you here" - hadn't a clue so the usual slightly awkward conversation, when we'd parted I remembered - we travelled on the same train every dayhmm

Go shopping & buy things I don't need & forget the essentials, making a list doesn't helpconfused

Losing items - frequently. I lost my Christmas Bauble earrings when I moved, fragile so knew I had put them safe, last year couldn't find them, in the Spring I was going through a "memory box", guess what - small plastic box with earrings in - I now know where they are - worn this Christmas.confused

My DD is Pregnant, she says she's got "baby brain", mine just "to much in my brain" carry lots of useless information as I love crosswords, quizes & triviagrin

Who was it who asked a child 'And whose little boy are you?' The child replied, 'Yours, Papa'. I think it was Papa and not Daddy!

Emptynester Thu 05-Jan-17 13:08:11

Both my DH and one of my sisters have bought two pairs of identical shoes (not even in Sales). DH insisted there was a very subtle difference in colour (?), but my sister just took them straight back and was given a credit note from a very obliging assistant. I thought it hilarious! Though it's probably only a matter of time before I do it.

Lona Thu 05-Jan-17 12:57:56

I thought I was losing it until I read this thread grin

Conni7 Thu 05-Jan-17 12:43:21

I'm so glad I'm not the only one! I've started writing everything down,as I know I'll forget. Now where is that list?

Teddy123 Thu 05-Jan-17 12:40:09

All sounds perfectly normal. I don't think it's anything to do with the ageing process .... More like we're all too busy so our minds are full of a myriad of stuff.

My most memorable was a few months ago. Popped into the corner shop for cigarettes! Dare I admit to this utterly disgusting vice. Probably not my worst!

Anyway .... Bought 2 packets. Got home and only 1 packet in my handbag with receipt for 2. So called in there following day, explained perhaps the assistant had dropped a packet etc. Ok they said, we will check CCTV later. Return a few days later. No, you definitely put them in your bag.

Remained a total mystery for a couple of weeks until I opened 'fridge and saw them sitting on the butter dish. Of course both my DH & I had used the 'fridge a zillion times ..... And yet not noticed them.

The young girl who originally served me and I always break into hilarious laughter whenever I see her ?

Sufjansgranny Thu 05-Jan-17 12:34:43

When something kitchen-related goes AWOL, first place I look is in the freezer - even if it's a packet of sugar, or a kitchen utensil, or a shopping list - seem to have a fatal attraction for freezer storage. This is such a comforting thread....

nannieann Thu 05-Jan-17 12:27:53

I started wearing contact lenses because I could never remember where I'd put my glasses. The other morning I woke up and could see perfectly - I'd forgotten to take them out!

Balini Thu 05-Jan-17 12:24:57

My wife asked one Sunday morning, if I'd go for a loaf of bread, which I dutifully did. I was at our front door, on my return, when I thought, this loaf feels very heavy. I looked in the bag, I had bought two litres of milk !!! Another senior moment. confused

Indigoblue Thu 05-Jan-17 12:22:09

The upside to getting old and forgetful, is that I frequently forget I'm old.
