Are people with certain names attracted to each other?

The names that never seem to be given to children now are the forties and fifties Carole, Janet, Christine, Susan, Donald, Keith, Robert, Kathleen, Joan, John, Patricia, Colin, Sandra, Penelope - nobody seems to like them. Perhaps they will come back. I do know a Janet and John.

I've got a Chris and Chrissa couple and they share the same birthday as well.

We have 2 sets of friends called Barbara and Andrew. My paternal and maternal grandparents were called Thomas and Mary. And we ,too, know a Chris and Chrissie .

Rosina...... our childrens' generation are calling their children the names that we probably wouldn't have thought of for our children: violet, Sybil (I have a dgd called this) Ethel, Dolly,Wilfred, Reginald , I could go on! Our grandchildren will rediscover the joys of Sue, Chris, Penny and Jan in about 25 years! ?

I know a David and Carol and a Mike and Anne. My daughter was engaged to 2 different Steves before she met and married a third one!

My brother is a Dave, his ex wife's dad was David, they named their first son David and when they divorced she married another David!

Know a Noel married to a Noelle [inevitably nicknamed "the Christmas Carols", a France married to a France, Michel to Michelle and twins Leon and Noel...

Unusual names these day are rife. Poor children - just hear of twin boys called "Nathan and Jowan" [Cornish apparently. I'm sure he will be called Joan by all and sundry unless he decided to be a Jo.

Every Nigel I know is married to a Jane.

I was christened Pauline, a name popular in the early fifties, but I loathed it so it's only family who still call me that, gets a bit confusing at times. First marriage was to a Peter and there were several of those pairings around.

Slightly off piste from OP, Sarah was an extraordinarily popular name a decade or so later and at one time we had seven working at my school, which was jolly small, so they all had to be differentiated to avoid confusing a cleaner with the head's wife!!

Like GrandMattie I feel very sorry for the poor babes landed with a 'trendy' name which is just what the parents fancied without any thought for the future. A friend was named Vivian which is the spelling used for a boy as that's what her parents would have preferred, pretty unfair I always thought.

I know an Anne and Mike too, but also a Winnie and Mick, Pam and Mick, Gill and Mike, Hari and Mike and Dolores and Mike. All in late 60s/70s. Michael must have been near the top of baby boy names in the 40s and 50s. My brother was to have been Michael Anthony until my parents realised his initials would have been MAD

Son Paul married a Jayne
His MIL is also called Jayne
His FILis called Paul!
There is a lot of Little Pauls and Big Pauls in their family.

We are Jim and Mary and my mother and father in law were Jimmy and May.I hope my husband wasn't looking for a mother figure.

Can't say I've noticed any particular pairings. Interestingly my H's were Geoff, George & Roger. My longest standing Male friend is Andrew (my "toyboy", he is 4 years younger & we share a Birthday), known him 30 years & also another Male friend Paul, we first worked together 28 years ago. Amongst my Boyfriends I had another Geoff & a Jim.

Our neighbours on both sides are Sue and John. Also know a Peter and Pam couple.

One of our DSs was once engaged to a girl with the same family surname as ours. It turned out that many of their first names were the same, though in differing generations. So my DS's fiancee was almost the same first name as myself. Her mother had the same first name as my (late) mil. Her father shared a first name with my other DS. It did become highly confusing.

I once had a party which had a surprising number of Annes and Pauls. As far as I know no couplings resulted from this. They would all be 60+ now.

How about two couples living next door to each other and not only having the same Christian names but the same surname too. This happened when I was married to my ex. Even worse was when I went to get HP on a car I was buying and was turned down because the other couple had CCJs against them. Obviously 36 and 38 are easy to muddle up or someone at the finance company couldnt read.
