Last Tuesday my son was burgled. The house was ransacked and the DGs were very frightened when they all returned from shopping and discovered what had happened. I wrote about it in the thread 'Christmas Weep' Not one Gransnetter has responded to that. No" Sad to hear that" or "Hope everything is now O.K. " Bit disappointed really
I missed your thread too, unfortunately. Our house was burgled soon after I was first married and it was very upsetting. I hope your family aren't too traumatised.
Thank you all. No Christmas presents were taken, just DDiLs precious jewellery They have now got the house sorted. The Scene of Crime officer was brilliant. Gave the GDs a good lesson on fingerprints which they both loved. He did much to make them feel better.
I am so sorry BBevan, that must have been frightening for the family, do hope the children especially are getting over it. Horrible to think some low life has been ransacking their home. (Didn't read the "weep" thread, sounded a bit depressing).
I'm sorry too BBevan it's a terrible thing to have happened and such a shock. I didn't read or respond to the thread after my post. I normally do follow any thread I've posted on but didn't after all my visitors arrived. it just goes to show how Christmas can throw life into chaos. I hope your family especially the children are starting to recover from the fright. Let us know how they are coping.
So - the advice was to take security measures and make your house the most difficult-looking to break into and burglars may avoid it as too much hassle.
BBevan I'm so sorry, what an awful thing to happen to your family.
So sorry to hear that BBevan, how horrible and frightening. Did they take all the Christmas presents?
I didn't see your original post.
I remember when my neighbour was burgled, an old lady who had not long been widowed. They had downsized from a larger country house - and she said they had been burgled there three times and the police reckoned they were the same people following them and breaking into the new house. She said 'well, they've got it all now'.
However - she said that her husband had taken all the window locks off when they moved in because she didn't like them.
So sorry to hear that BBevan. I haven't had time to go on GN for a week and just popping in briefly before another family visit. I'm sure your son and his family hope that something bad happens to those who burgled them, especially at this time of year. I would in their place. The people who did this have no conscience. Hope the little ones recover from their fright soon.
BBbevan I am very sorry to hear that but in my defence can only say I had not read the thread, as with a houseful, I did little more than dip into a few threads..
What a dreadful experience for them , I was very traumatised when we were burgled 45 years ago and even when it is "only" possessions, and no one is hurt, the violation of one's space is terrifying.
A good burglar alarm which is clearly visible from outside can be a good deterrent and should reassure them in the future.
BB I think that a lot of us (myself included) didn't even look at the Christmas Weep thread.
As others say, a burglary is also a violation of your home, not just thievery, hope your family make their house safer as a result, the police are always happy to do a check and say what you should do/install.Sadly, many burglaries are never resolved as getting evidence is hard.I know that doing anything to the house seems like bolting the stable door after the horse has gone, but burglars do sometimes make return visits, so urge them to do all they can (not in front of the DGC of course.)
I did not see the OP.
Being burgled feels like a violation. It happened to my parents just after they buried my Gran (Mum's Mum)and it was the only time that there had been anything remotely valuable in the house: Clarice Cliff pottery, jewellery etc. - all left by my Gran. It almost felt as though someone knew that information, which made the whole thing even more creepy. My Mum's engagement ring also went. It took them a very long time to get over it.
I am sorry that your family has suffered this, but hope that the New Year will bring better times.
I was on the beginning of the thread, but quite often, or most of the time, do not read all posts after mine, or indeed very many at all, if it is the type of thread that people post their individual experiences over a couple of days.
There are only two posters who posted after your post. I suspect that perhaps other posters do the same as myself.
Your poor family. I have never had it happened, but my mum, who is as stoical as they come, even said that if she was burgled she would have to move house as she would find it too traumatic.
My apologies too for not responding. I am sorry but I didn't read your original post. Being burgled is a terrible experience. No wonder you were very upset by it. I hope you are all recovering and able to put this behind you. Very best wishes for a happier 2017.
'Were any of their presents' (typos)
Another here who didn't read your post. Some thread titles don't draw me in.
I'm so sorry to read about it now. My in-laws were once burgled and I know how traumatised they were by the thought of someone in their house going through their things. It was the irreplaceable things like his treasured bowling trophy and her mothers rings that hurt most.
Has your son discovered how they gained entrance?
I'm especially sad that your GC were upset. We're any of there presents taken. I know how much anger you will feel towards those responsible for this,
Sending you reassuring (((hugs))) BB and hoping you're checking all doors and windows are security fastened yourself.
Please accept apologies for not responding to your first post BBevan as with others I have just glanced at posts during the past month or so due to work and family commitments there is nothing worse than an intrusion into your household and I hope your family are getting over the trauma that these lowlife leave in their wake.
BBevan I'm sorry too about what happened to your family. It must have been a traumatic experience and I hope they are recovering.
I don't read all the threads on Gransnet and I didn't read the Christmas weep one.
That's a horrible thing to happen to your family bb, there are some bad people around for sure. Do hope they can put it behind them with your help and have a better 2017.
Sorry to have missed your earlier post no excuses just busy as everyone said.
I didn`t go onto that thread because of the title as thought it would be about losing loved ones and didn`t want to upset myself about my own losses . So sorry to hear about the burglary , it is a horrible experience for everyone concerned xxx
I'm sorry not to have responded supportively, bb. I've had flu and family so haven't been looking at all the threads.
That is an appalling thing to happen and I can imagine how traumatised the family must be. You must feel helpless being so far away.
I had replied to the Christmas weep post at the start but as it was upsetting me I did not return to it so I did not see your post.
My sympathies, it is truly awful. We were burgled many years ago and the scum returned about 3 weeks later after we had replaced TV etc. I have never bought any jewellery since because every piece that my mother had owned was taken and she had died a couple of years before.
It is not an experience that anybody forgets. It is the emotional rather than the material side that hurts. Honestly, we do care!
What a horrible experience for your family. My grandchildren were unsettled and anxious earlier this year after they were burgled during the night. No damage at all and only my daughter's handbag and car were taken but very frightening to realise that someone had been in the house while they were all sound asleep. Hope your grandchildren soon feel reassured and safe, a nasty experience for any family to have.
Sorry I didn't see your post BB, I too have ignored all the Christmas ones. You and your family have my sympathy, burglary is a devastating thing, not only materially but emotionally. Hope they manage to put it behind them soon.
(((Hugs))) especially for the children.
Sorry that this has happened, I hope your family are beginning to recover.
I too didn't see the post.
What a shame. I remember my youngest being very scared for a while after we were burgled and needing lots of reassurance and cuddles. We had three opportunistic break ins over a short period, but nothing (touch wood) since we installed a burglar alarm, and we make sure it's set when we're out.
I'm sorry you were upset that nobody replied to your post
I didn't see it, but it's not that GNers are uncaring - often we just feel sympathetic but move on. Sometimes we come to the thread days later when it seems the time to comment has passed. Unfortunately you can't see the quiet sympathy that your post will have generated! We could do with like/dislike buttons on Gransnet, as on Facebook.
