They obviously want you to be there too, and with your Hubby having PD it isn't always easy to just go as a couple. I think you should go and enjoy it, and be jolly happy that they want you there, Enjoy!!

We are indeed very lucky and we appreciate this every day. They are all lovely girls - fortune has smiled on us with them. smile And their partners are all great too! We are looking forward to the trip. My DGSs will be wanting to take us on snake-hunting expeditions in the nearby wood; and I need to get my own back in our snooker tournament with one of my DGs who beats me all the time!

Sounds wonderful,*Luckygirl*. You are indeed lucky to have such a thoughtful family.

Well done, that woman! smile

Well done, Luckygirl.

It sounds as if you were a bit worried about intruding on their holiday, but I think they want your company just as much as you would like to be with them.

Have a great time!

As it was at their invitation then I think you should go.
It all sounds lovely and they wouldn't have mentioned it if they didn't want you. So I hope you all have a really happy time together.

Thanks for your views - it looks as though we should go!! smile

Go, and have a super time. You might not get the chance again as things continually change, as you well know, and you might regret turning it down.

When we've been away with our family we've done our own thing on some days and family things other days. We usually all get together in the evenings. I'd definitely go. Have a fab holiday and make the most of your time with your lovely family ?

What a thoughtful family lucky. They're obviously aware that your OH's health may become too challenging for holidays in the future, so want to make the most of both of you now.

It all sounds wonderful - I would definitely go. In fact can I come too? wink

What a lovely kind offer, luckygirl , you've made it clear you don't feel entitled to join them and are happy to do your own thing when you're there so why not take it in the spirit it's being offered- kindly and with generosity of spirit. Maybe they're aware that as time goes on it may not be so easy to combine aging oldies with the needs of a young family and want to do as much as they can in this way while it's a viable option. I'd go for it but at the end of the day you have to opt for what you feel ok with x

Last year one of my children kindly invited us to go on holiday with them - which we did and enjoyed it enormously.

I said at the time that we did not regard this as setting a precedent - it was somewhere that they go each year - and that we did not expect to be asked every time; and if they went alone on another occasion we would not be offended or go into a decline.

They are going again this year and have asked us to go with them - not in the same house this time (as they have another young family going with them) but in a one bed place on the same site of cottages.

WWYD? We had lots of fun last time and would love to go - we know the other young family very well and we know we would get along with them. It is hard to ask my DD's OH what he thinks about it as he is a very kind bloke and would simply say it is fine by him (even if it wasn't!).

I think their reasoning is that my OH is declining with his PD and that getting away on our own is becoming more difficult. There is one place that we still go to each year as a couple as we know it well and know the route and it is not too far away. We have been there every year since the children were tiny. But going anywhere further is a problem as OH becomes very anxious which worsens his symptoms.

If we went with them this year, we would not have to worry about the transport as they have a big car.

I have said that if we come we would expect that they would go off and do their own things and we would not be tagging along all the time; and that we would be happy to look after the children as and when so that they could go out on their own - perhaps for a meal with the other family. And also that we could cook now and again so they could come back to a meal if they all go out for the day.

The site has a swimming pool and a lake and lovely places to walk through the woods - we would be very content doing these things on our own.
