I don't really understand all the amazement in the media about several celebrities dying during the last week (with the exception of George Michael who was younger) they were all of an age to die of natural causes.
I am more amazed by the number of them who're actually alive (and I thought had died years ago.)

I don't belong to facebook and twitter, but I think there was an outcry against those brave folk who dared to say So What? when so-called celebrities died.
Even David Bowie, whose music I did enjoy.
I'm sure all of us have someone who we know personally who died this year, and who lived a simpler but more worthwhile life.
Where are our values?

What a judgemental remark TriciaF. How do you know how worthwhile anyone's life was? Nobody knew how generous and caring George Michael was until after he died.

KateK, loved the Keith Richards comment, not least because I said something similar yesterday. I suppose it could be argued he's a good advert for clean drugs.... (not being serious in case anyone wants to shoot me)

I feel sad about so many people who have entertained us dying this year. I wasn't a Bowie fan but recognise he was gifted and made a lot of people happy. I don't think any of us should moan and criticise people like George Michael for being rich. His life seems to have been beset by his addictions and he does seem to have been extraordinarily generous, silently. RIP George

How does Paul Gasgoine keeping going ? His liver must be in a dreadful state. So many people have invested time and money in helping him but to no avail, he sadly has a self-destruct button.

Tricia I suppose George Michael could have lived like Philip Green, but he didn't and must have given millions to charity without anyone knowing. He didn't have to, he could have lived a life of ostentatious wealth.

He also worked at a shelter for the homeless anonymously - I like the fact that no-one publicised that fact until a lady he worked with quietly mentioned it after he died.

I think it is because these people enter our homes, albeit only through the media, whereas if I tell everyone that a beloved old lady we know died recently none of you will know who I am talking about.

Farnorth, there are less than 7.5 billion people on the planet, so I hope it's just millions who die every year, to be replaced by slightly more, unfortunately.

I think all this outpouring of grief for celebrities started off from when Diana died, I personally find it bizzare when a celeb dies and people are having all night vigils outside the celebs homes! They dont grieve for their loved ones like that yet they do for celebs!? Theres nowt so weird as folk thats for sure.

Maybe it's like belonging to a tribe, or community, and your leader dies.
