43 years on.....

I am surprised how young so many of us were.
We were 22 and 21. I think we probably "grew up" together, which enabled us to grow and change together. Only a psychological change in my H has changed our relationship. I pray the majority of you will never experience this change. Life is just different to expectations and not all doom any gloom, I have just had to adjust to this change and I have.

We clocked up 53 years last July, but then my husband died in October. He drove me doolally most of the time, we had some humdinger rows, but how I wish he was still here, no fun in being able to do just what you want when that`s all there is left to do.

47 years married for us, he was 23 and I was not quite 19. We we were so very young and in many ways grew up together so both of us have changed a fair bit as we've matured over the years. One of the things I've appreciated in my old boy is that he has loved me all through those changes, and indeed still does. Of course we have our "grumps" and he can drive me to distraction but he's still the person I look for first to share stuff with, be it good or not so good news! We're blessed with so much but whichever way I do the sums there's now less time ahead of us than behind us. Thinking of all those who's special person isn't there anymore x

We were married at 21 and 23 and were married for 44 years. Sadly he died at almost 68 - miss him every day and especially at this time of year but life goes on and I have 3 sons and three grandchildren, one grand daughter he never met.

It was our wedding anniversary yesterday. 43 years for us too jg.
It never ceases to amaze me that two young people (21 and 20) can promise to stay together for life and still be together so long afterwards.

How lucky you all are, I never found that special person who would love me unconditionally, forever. I thought I had but I was very wrong.

49 years in a few days time. I always say we have now rubbed each other's corners off and can live together relatively smoothly now. Thoughts go out to all those who must be feeling loss of their partner particularly at this time.

Thanks cornergran. My OH died 10 years ago next February after 34 years of happy marriage. I can't believe it's been so long.

42 years with us, second time around, and the first 10+ were the hardest. Trying to combine the children from 2 families.
But we had the same ideals, and a sense of humour really helps.
I can't imagine being without him now, he says we'll both go together.

Once we got past 20 years, it was much better!
Joking, but we are both firstborns and bossy, so we took a bit of geling together.

47 years here but hoping to make 50 and have a family reunion. Poor man has had to put up with a lot. Someone took a photo of me on holiday which is a nice one- I don't take a good photo and he has asked them if he can print it off to keep in his wallet. How sweet is that?

These latter posts are reminder that we should treasure every moment of happiness that comes our way.

Annsixty I know how hard it is when you have to deal with the "sickness" bit.

DH and myself had 35 very happy years together before his death last year parted us.
I count myself very fortunate to have had such a loving husband, just wish we could have had longer together.

It restores ones faith to hear of so many people who still love their life partners after so long. I raise my glass to you (figuratively of course) as a mere starter at 6 years second time around.

One up man ship! Although I suspect there might be others on here who have been married as long. 64 years - 65 next March. No he is not the man I married, I am not the young blushing bride any more, but my we have had some good times, some gruelling, and we have lived and loved through them all. I am always sad when I read of marriages which have broken down, I understand the reasons, but the sadness is still there. Growing old together is hard work with rewards.

We have had 58 years of marriage and are now living the vows " in sickness " and the "worse" part. But it is the wonderful early and middle years which enable me to carry on and care for the stranger I live with now.
Just keep the faith and cherish what you have now.

It was fifty for us this year (he needs a medal as big as a frying pan!) and I was thinking this morning in the wee small hours, what a kind, steady as a rock, helpful man he is - a bit short on imagination, but hey - and always a gentleman! He drives me to despair and has me weak at the knees by turns, and I can't imagine life without him.

Wow, it's good to hear so many happy stories, proof that marriage can last. It doesn't just happen though does it, takes work, tolerance and a sense of humour, and of course love.

46 years of marriage so far, but in a couple of years, it will be 50 years since we met in France, he a postgrad Brit studying in France, me about to start uni . May '68 was our stomping ground. He pursued me across three countries, two continents, different cultures, different religion.
Blessed to have such a lovely man. Glad I stopped running away!
