40 years for us and I wouldn't change a thing good or bad.

He still reminds me of what I wrote in my diary when we met
( I tell him people never hear good of themselves smile ...

' He's a nice guy, but not the sort you want to go out with ' smile

Luckygirl Fri 23-Dec-16 08:39:01

46 here - and it is lovely to hear all your happy stories.

He has changed hugely because of his PD and is different from the person I married; some personality change - either due to the illness or to his drugs. But I signed up for better for worse and I just enjoy the moments when his old self shines through. You do not know what life will throw at you and have to look for the good things.

Happy Christmas to all you loved-up couples

Another December wedding here for us - 34 years. He's the best, ...... after the dog!

Rinouchka Fri 23-Dec-16 08:47:21

46 years of marriage so far, but in a couple of years, it will be 50 years since we met in France, he a postgrad Brit studying in France, me about to start uni . May '68 was our stomping ground. He pursued me across three countries, two continents, different cultures, different religion.
Blessed to have such a lovely man. Glad I stopped running away!

Christinefrance Fri 23-Dec-16 08:58:02

Wow, it's good to hear so many happy stories, proof that marriage can last. It doesn't just happen though does it, takes work, tolerance and a sense of humour, and of course love.
Well done from someone with a mere 11 years on the clock ( this time ).

Greyduster Fri 23-Dec-16 08:59:06

It was fifty for us this year (he needs a medal as big as a frying pan!) and I was thinking this morning in the wee small hours, what a kind, steady as a rock, helpful man he is - a bit short on imagination, but hey - and always a gentleman! He drives me to despair and has me weak at the knees by turns, and I can't imagine life without him.

annsixty Fri 23-Dec-16 09:07:38

We have had 58 years of marriage and are now living the vows " in sickness " and the "worse" part. But it is the wonderful early and middle years which enable me to carry on and care for the stranger I live with now.
Just keep the faith and cherish what you have now.

PRINTMISS Fri 23-Dec-16 09:08:32

One up man ship! Although I suspect there might be others on here who have been married as long. 64 years - 65 next March. No he is not the man I married, I am not the young blushing bride any more, but my we have had some good times, some gruelling, and we have lived and loved through them all. I am always sad when I read of marriages which have broken down, I understand the reasons, but the sadness is still there. Growing old together is hard work with rewards.

Oh Annsixty well done for following your vows so well. Not an easy thing for any of us but so much more so for you. flowers

NonnaW Fri 23-Dec-16 09:52:43

Congratulations to all of you who have lasted the course, and how lovely to hear such positive affirmations flowers. It restores ones faith to hear of so many people who still love their life partners after so long. I raise my glass to you (figuratively of course) wine as a mere starter at 6 years second time around.

47 years married for us. We have got through many difficult times like most people. annsixty flowers

Bellasnana Fri 23-Dec-16 11:42:28

Congratulations to you all, it is quite an achievement nowadays to sustain a relationship for so many years.

Annsixty flowers I know how hard it is when you have to deal with the "sickness" bit.

DH and myself had 35 very happy years together before his death last year parted us.
I count myself very fortunate to have had such a loving husband, just wish we could have had longer together.

kittylester Fri 23-Dec-16 12:30:41

These latter posts are reminder that we should treasure every moment of happiness that comes our way.

(((hugs))) love and lots of respect to those of you who have lost, or are losing, a loved husband/partner.flowers

47 years here but hoping to make 50 and have a family reunion. Poor man has had to put up with a lot. Someone took a photo of me on holiday which is a nice one- I don't take a good photo and he has asked them if he can print it off to keep in his wallet. How sweet is that?

Rinouchka Fri 23-Dec-16 15:13:51

Hugs to you, annsixty flowers.

Ankers Fri 23-Dec-16 15:20:16

Once we got past 20 years, it was much better!
Joking, but we are both firstborns and bossy, so we took a bit of geling together.

TriciaF Fri 23-Dec-16 15:46:59

42 years with us, second time around, and the first 10+ were the hardest. Trying to combine the children from 2 families.
But we had the same ideals, and a sense of humour really helps.
I can't imagine being without him now, he says we'll both go together.

cornergran Fri 23-Dec-16 16:02:22

flowers and hugs for those who have lost or are facing the loss of their life partner.

Culag Fri 23-Dec-16 16:29:37

Thanks cornergran. My OH died 10 years ago next February after 34 years of happy marriage. I can't believe it's been so long.

Nandalot Fri 23-Dec-16 17:00:41

49 years in a few days time. I always say we have now rubbed each other's corners off and can live together relatively smoothly now. Thoughts go out to all those who must be feeling loss of their partner particularly at this time.

Lona Fri 23-Dec-16 17:09:08

How lucky you all are, I never found that special person who would love me unconditionally, forever. I thought I had but I was very wrong.
Hey ho, I'm happy enough on my own, and I get the tv control! tchwinktchgrin

Pigglywiggly Fri 23-Dec-16 17:09:44

It was our wedding anniversary yesterday. 43 years for us too jg.
It never ceases to amaze me that two young people (21 and 20) can promise to stay together for life and still be together so long afterwards.

Falconbird Fri 23-Dec-16 17:26:21

We were married at 21 and 23 and were married for 44 years. Sadly he died at almost 68 - miss him every day and especially at this time of year sad but life goes on and I have 3 sons and three grandchildren, one grand daughter he never met.
