Men!

I am speaking from personal experience. Perhaps best for me to say no more and get off the thread.

I think we all know men die earlier than women Dee,partly because of this sort of reason
So it is a serious subject actually.

Because men seem to have this attitude more than women? You're reading far too much into this Dee-not buying into a debate 3 days before Xmas.

I know women who are stoical beyond belief and others who, as my mum would say, "Enjoy ill health" and make the most of any illness.
I wouldn't make any sweeping statements about all women so why is it acceptable to do this about men?

DH is meant to be semi retired and doing 2-3 days consultancy per week but it's spilling over into what should be his down time. He's taking calls at 9pm on Sunday evening and was still working last night when we were babysitting for dgd. I really get annoyed with the macho "I'll be fine" attitude.

I guess if he's got people relying on his being at the meeting then he would feel bad to let them down*Katek*. It's a bit if a puffed up attitude I know, but men sometimes feel the show can't run without them.

Slight deviation here but I've just watched my old boy, who granted is a fairly fit 70 year old, climbing a stepladder in the garden to refill a bird feeder. That's all fine, except he was wearing shoes with the laces undone and flapping about.....but apparently that's not a problem when balancing on a wobbly ladder on uneven ground! As is climbing the loft ladder wearing sloppy old slippers with no grip....I despair!

It's a hard one - I fully understand not sharing your infections and you're not going to be productive if I'll. But so many companies now give you black marks for being off sick - my husbands only allow 3 sick days a year. Most company's think you'll be more sick the older you get so most people over 40 carry on regardless as showing the previously mentioned weakness can cost you your job. My husband had 2 days off last year and was asked if he ought to think of retiring!!

My DH was much the same although I always knew when he was really worried as he'd ask me to make a Doctor's App for him (never ring himself!!!) He just hated to make a fuss

The cold remedy adverts are irresponsible IMHO, Nurofen for instance , "Nurofen so Colin can go back to work " - and infect another dozen people ! Other brands are available and equally at fault.

I have got that upside down and back to front!

My sympathies - been there, done that!
Last March my DH was getting breathless just walking down to the papershop so I said I would going to make a doctor's appointment whether he liked it or not. He refused but eventually consented to see the Triage Nurse at the surgery the next morning. Within half an hour of entering the surgery he was leaving on a stretcher, into the Ambulance and off to hospital for a pacemaker.
I managed to refrain from saying "I told you so" but ........
He does listen to me a bit more now.

Katek I think that he is being foolish bordering on downright stupid if he has a group A streptococcal infection which he may infect others with- they will definitely thank him. A good job he does not live here!

Women object to sexist remarks. So do men.

That happened years ago. I don't think he'd do that these days. Maybe I've got him under a bit more control!

Yes, it's not fair to expose others...maybe they will boot him out!

I do admire his stoicism, though, but there is a limit to what is sensible.

Mine is so well hard that he insisted on going to work while he had Chicken Pox. I told him it was unfair to others who might catch it but he just stared blankly at me!

Sounds like the chimps in Monkeyworld. They won't show pain, as it looks weak and would affect their status in the peck order......

ditto, mines the same. Brave warriors. Perhaps it's because when he returns he can just sit a rest were-as I have to still carry on my domestic duties and so going to work is just too much. Either that or I'm a wimp and that may very well be the case.

My DH never took a day off sick in 40 years except when he had Chicken Pox at age 33 and it was very bad. He never seemed to mind taking himself of domestic duties or weekend outings though!

I'm with you on this one Katek. DH is just the same.
