Yes. I felt the same. Still do, when I'm not actually with them. When I'm with them, at eleven and fifteen, I often think, "How the f---did I...".
Still love 'em loads.

I have three grown up sons. Two are in their forties and one is in his late thirties. My first Grandchild was born in July this year to my oldest Son and DIL. On day two I very proudly joined Gransnet. I felt I'd earned my stripes haha.
Obviously I was delighted at becoming a Gran but I wasn't able to meet the little one straightaway as my Son lives in Barcelona. I had to settle for a while with the lovely, warm feeling that being a Gran brought. Then, last week I went to Barcelona to meet my GC. I know this is probably 'old hat' for most Grans but I was unprepared for how I would fall head over heels in love with 'Tiny' as my DIL calls him.
I returned home on Saturday and I'm still 'buzzing' at the experience and just wanted the share with other Grandparents.
I'd love to hear how others felt when they met their first Grandchild?

Surprise! My Granny had 2 daughters, My Mum had 2 daughters and I had 2 daughters, so the arrival of a great big thumping 10lb+ BOY was a bit of a culture shock. Now at 9 he is almost as tall as me, still has big blue eyes and a mop of hair and remains the cuddliest and most loving of the 3 DGC. My 2 DGD who followed maintained the 2 girls tradition - all 3 have their special place in my heart.
Congratulations! ..welcome to the club ?
The meeting with my first little grandson was a bit traumatic as he was 10 wks early (DIL had pre eclampsia) and weighed a tiny 2lb 6oz ...tubes everywhere and kept in special unit for 6 wks ... his GD and l visited every day and took over for a few hrs to give mum and dad a break ...but the overwhelming love l felt for that little man was so strong.
He is now 11yrs old and is still the apple of my eye ...he has been joined by his sister who is 9 yrs ...my beautiful GDaughter...(born at full term !..yay) and now my other son (l have 2 sons) has blessed us with another GSon ( also full term) he is 5yrs (tomorrow).
I don't think anyone prepares you for the love..patience ..and joy that grandchildren bring....especially after a busy noisy day with them and then you get the joy of handing them back ! ..lol
Somebody once told me that you love your children........... but you are 'in' love with your grandchildren. My 4 year old granddaughter is the love of my life........???
It's magical, no matter how many times you have a new grandchild to love, the sheer joy and fierce protectiveness is completely overwhelming. The very first one opens the gateway to a new and wonderful world and each additional child simply adds their own special signature to the mix. I have eight wonderful grandchildren with number nine expected in April.
Juney, congratulations on the birth of Tiny...enjoy every precious moment
x
I was fortunate to meet my grandchild at a few hours old. I have two children - when I was expecting my second I feared a little on how I would feel when my 2nd child arrived having fallen head over heels with the first. No fear needed - felt great. Then when my grandson was born - I wasn't expecting to feel quite so emotional or so quickly smitten. It is the most magical feeling. Congratulations on joining this Club of fortunates!
So pleased for you. I was at the hospital when DGS1 was born &saw him briefly soon after. Totally over whelmed with love & I have been by all the other 5 since. It is magic but then I also remember when their Dads were born & that was just the best 2 moments in my life without a doubt- despite the 50 ( yes 50!!) stitches the first time round.
Grandchildren are the best thing in the world. Enjoy every second.
Simply overwhelmed and again with the second and I'm sure it will be the same if any others come along.
Oh have felt like that right fom Josefs birth 17yrs ago..then our five girls.then our Henry 5months ago...heart melting-all of them....number 8 due to arrive in Jan in Dubai and I shall be there!! Overwhelming love...❤
I was lucky enough to be present for the birth of my little man (now 5), and to spend the first month of his life living with them all. At night, if he cried, I would get up and rock him so that his mum (my DD) could sleep - but mostly because I just loved holding him.
I used to walk him around the house and show him things, and to this day we both keep up a running commentary with each other, pointing out things we see.
There is no love like it, IMHO
Felt as overwhelmed when my younger daughter adopted a five year old little boy, as I did years earlier when my younger son's parterner had the first of my other six grandchildren!
I wasn't prepared for the rush of love that I felt when I held my gd a few hours after she was born. It was such a lovely feeling. A couple of years later she came to stay with us when her brother was about to be born.
We received precise instructions! We had to take my gd to the hospital after he was born so they could spend time as a little family. We went to my daughter's house and cleaned the kitchen while we were waiting. After a while we got a call saying we could go in and meet our new gs. Lovely.
Grandchildren are such a blessing, I am completely besotted with all four of my little darlings❤️❤️?❤️
I too thought I loved my daughters totally but when you get grandchildren it's so wonderful. With my latest grandchild I've been retired so have been very involved in looking after her and the relationship is so special.
First DGS was so small with a mass of black hair standing on end, I just took his tiny hand and gazed and gazed at him, pure love.
I have six DGCs, ranging in age from 19 to 28 and love them all to bits. The feeling never goes away, no matter how old they are. Now I also have a fantastic DGGS, who is just edible! He has brought so much joy since his arrival earlier this year. So congratulations June 64. This is the start of something big!
I thought I loved my 2 ds's more than anything. Then our first gs arrived in February and I can't describe the love we feel for him. As previously posted seeing my son as a daddy still catches at me. Congratulations on being a gran - or nan in my case - best feeling in the world!
I just felt relieved! I had been with my DD throughout the labour when her pre-eclampsia nose-dived and it then went to an emergency CS - she could have been delivered of a monkey for all I cared - I just wanted her to be OK!
But I love that lad and the other 6 dear GC with all my heart.
I was lucky enough to be present at the birth of my grandsons and got first cuddle! IT was the best feeling in the world. Love at first sight.
I was out walking my DS and DDiL's dog for them. DDiL was still mucking her horses out (as usual)well into labour. She left it so long to go to hospital that my expected DGS (who turned out to be a DGD) was almost born in a stable. On a sad note. My MiL died the same day, at the other end of the country, so DH didn't get to meet the new baby for a few days afterwards. She stayed with us overnight just 2 weeks later as DDiL and DS went to a friends wedding. Amazing experience. I now have three and they are 10,8 and 6. Where would we be without them?
Congratulations Juney64

I was jet-lagged when I first met my first grandchild, who was 6 weeks old. I felt very happy for us all, but what I found especially touching was seeing my son as a father.
What a lovely experience, Juney. All GC are special but the first is specially special. My first will be 25 in three weeks' time but is still very special. And there are four more, all special in their different ways.
When DGS was expected my neighbour told me that there is no feeling like the moment you hold your first grandchild. How right she was. He was only a few minutes old and we were allowed into the delivery room. It was just overwhelming. Juney enjoy your trips to Barcelona.
Our grandson was an hour old when we held him for the first time and we were so elated we could have floated home from the hospital. That was almost ten years ago. He is our only grandchild, he has enriched our lives and we absolutely adore him. Congratulations and welcome to the world of grandparents - you have many happy times to come!
Hi June. Although I had looked forward to becoming a grandmother, I felt bemused, unsure, but quietly delighted. Now that the little man is coming up to 3, I am really enjoying the times we have together.
Congrats to you
