You're absolutely right Shanma - crying doesn't alter anything. C.S. Lewis famously said: 'Crying is all right in its way while it lasts. But you have to stop sooner or later, and then you still have to decide what to do.'
For me it's often a response to sorrow and frustration and it's a healthy one I think. (Has a quick look on google.) Yes, crying is actually good for you according to various researchers.
My mother says she only ever remembers me crying once as a child - I used to bottle up a lot of hurt and pain. Now I am comfortable expressing those sorts of emotions - I've been doing a lot of crying recently and even though it doesn't actually change things I feel it's an appropriate response to my circumstances.
