Yesterday my best friend came for a cuppa and I dunked a biscuit in my cup of tea....my friend was shocked and stated that she thinks its bad manners and quite common haha!! We did laugh about it and I shall still dunk and she never ever will...what do gransnetters think??

I misread the OP, somehow an 'r' got in there.....

I was always told that dunking is common, but I couldn't care less, and dunk whenever I have tea & biscuits. Shortbread is the best to dunk with. Mind you, I do feel guilty whilst dunking.

Not a dunker myself but no objections to those who are - keep on dunking!

Jaycee5 Mon 05-Dec-16 09:34:48

I don't think it's common, especially in your own home. I wouldn't do it in someone else's because that would be when the soggy bit would fall in the cup.

I have two Digestives for breakfast and dunk them. I might not dunk if I were out or in company. My DH puts up with it and I tolerate his Marmite and Piccalilli.

I only ever dunk ginger nuts, I always remember my FIL saying it was a disgusting habit, but it didn`t stop me.

Precise timing is critical!

Couldn't bear to dunk anything in my tea - yukky bits floating in it! On the other hand I do need cantuccini to dunk in my cappuccino (And I don't mind the bits in that?)

I did feel queasy when I was in France, watching the younger ones dunk their bread in their morning chocolat

Jalima Sun 04-Dec-16 21:16:48

Dunking is quite a fast movement, not a slooowww dip ....

DUNK! As a little girl I used to dunk my ginger biscuit in my dad's tea and he'd pretend not to notice - well, there were crumbs floating there. Yes, my parents thought it 'common' and I was told never to do it in 'public' but oooh it's sooo nice; unless it falls in grin

Well, each to their own sue smile

sue1169 Sun 04-Dec-16 18:16:39

Sounds yum Anya?

Anya Sun 04-Dec-16 18:14:27

I'm obviously in need of some dunking coaching. If I try with anything less solid that a ginger nut I end up with a morsel clutched between two fingers while the rest slowly dissolves into my tea.

Now Cadburys milk chocolate dunked in hot chocolate - that I can manage.

Ana Sun 04-Dec-16 18:10:07

Oh Yuk and Double Yuk!...the grease globules on the top of the tea....shock

sue1169 Sun 04-Dec-16 18:08:08

Toast with butter&marmalade is amazing when dunked in tea ?

Christinefrance Sun 04-Dec-16 18:03:31

No never dunk can't bear soggy biscuit or crumbs in my drink.

Jalima Sun 04-Dec-16 17:58:39

grin

I can't remember the last time I bought any - I think it was when an acquaintance came round for a brew so I didn't dare dunk!

rosesarered Sun 04-Dec-16 17:55:32

tchgrinPhilistine! Dunking choccy biscuits.

Jalima Sun 04-Dec-16 17:51:30

oh dear rosesarered choc digestives are lovely dunked blush
All that lovely slightly melted choccy

Hobnobs are quite good too. Gingernuts are best.

However, I rarely eat biscuits, because if I start I can't stop.

cornergran Sun 04-Dec-16 17:38:44

Digestives and custard creams, even the gluten free ones, are just made for dunking in a cup of tea. Only those though. Any others are just wrong smile !

kittylester Sun 04-Dec-16 17:32:44

Never - the risk of losing some biscuit is too great.

rosesarered Sun 04-Dec-16 17:32:34

I do draw the line at dunking choc digestives [that is definitely to be frowned upon.]

rosesarered Sun 04-Dec-16 17:31:30
