NinatheNana do you buy your DH a new card every year ? DH and i have given each other the same card since we got married, we do the same with Birthday/Anniversary/St we agreed that if the sentiments in those first cards were so true there was no need to buy new every year ( and it saves money). We both forgot St Valentines last year but the thought was there !

The highly expensive adhesive pieces of paper bought, cards written and posted. Well, the three that Mr C has responsibility for are still here but mine are done and dusted. Eight received, I could send e-cards to some but as I love receiving 'proper' cards it seems fair to send them.

Thanks Sue. All done and dusted and posted yesterday! I've decided this year not to try to write updates inside the cards for people we rarely see but like to keep in contact with. I find it very nerve racking to do when I have no idea of what triumphs or disasters have happened with them.

Sooo - instead I'm phoning. Three down so far. Lovely long chats, one promise for help to arrange a family re-union and one dinner invite. Much better!

My cards are written and posted. Someone has to get the ball rolling and the PO will collapse if we all wait till the week before Christmas. I had parcels to post and sent those this morning - no queue in PO. Anyway, I believe Post Offices up and down the country are coming out on strike in a week or two.

1 card but DGD (5) has written one you my two dogs however, she has yet to write a card to Grampy and me
I have purchased cards from DGC's school which DGC designed, it's a school fundraiser but apparently the company has gone bust so none of that next year

Our first card arrived this morning, from the people who live three doors away!
I know they're not going away for the festive season, so can't imagine why they've sent it so early, but it has made me think about getting some of mine written!
We send roughly 90 cards, so I'd better get a wiggle on!

I think about 7th December onwards is about the right time to receive/send them, although I've sent them later if I'm not organised. Not written any yet. Received one today from the USA, the only one so far. I don't like receiving them very close to Christmas because I enjoy displaying them for as long as possible. I'm visiting my daughter on 17th December so will take theirs with me, no point posting them, especially as I always get expensive special cards (for family) which need large letter stamps and begrudge the postage!

Daughter and me have 5 cards between us, the first came a week ago, the rest today. Haven`t written mine yet.

I stopped sending cards. The relief !!!

I've been sending email cards for a couple of years Rinouchka. I make a donation to charity instead.
I send a poem out with my Christmas wishes, which tells people who I am donating to.
I still send a few cards out to those who I am not in regular contact with.

Forgot to say ive had two, one today and one on Dec 1st. Havent done mine yet

We have moved around the country a lot so have a lot to send to keep in touch with people (about 70). Some are for local friends i admit (about 15) and are hand delivered. I love receivin g cards and hearing everyones news. 8Quite happy with round robin type letters. I hate just a card with no letter which tells you nothing about how they are getting on. Cards are a major part of my Christmas decorations too.

Received two proper ones, plus one from the Avon lady with the catalogue and one from a health supplement company with a new £3 off voucher.

I haven't sent the ones for Australia yet let alone thought of doing the rest!

I've had 2 but sending the money I would spend on cards & postage to give a young person a bed via the Centrepoint Charity

Started doing email Charity cards three years ago.Recipients can print out onto card if they wish It's the postage I object to .Used to do a 'Round Robin' as I like to know what's been going on in friends' lives and I assume they feel the same. However email means I am in regular contact with most friends, so have dropped that .There are a handful of people I still post cards to and I put through neighbours' doors .If I know I will see people in the run up I do not write out cards to them. But then we as a family do not exchange cards (birthday anniversary etc) as we live together and say it in person .My DDs do send birthday and Mothers Day cards now they have left home .

I like to receive cards as well, have had two already I'm just happy people are thinking of me.

I read that the postal workers are going on strike for several days this month so we may not receive all our cards before Christmas.

I received two cards this morning, one from a charity I support and another from my medical supplies company putting faces to all the names I hear on the telephone.
My sister sent me a card for the beginning of advent along with the calendar and GC presented us with hand made cards yesterday. Eldest GD's card is the nicest card I have ever received, she is very artistic.

It seems to be yet another competitive thing - how many cards did you get? are they homemade by some Yummy mummy or their equally ghastly sprog? etc., etc.
The year I turned 60 and got a -minute- pension [I was a kept woman], I sent cards and told everyone that from now on i was cutting back as i was broke and a pensioner. Only about 2 people responded...
My list was endless, friends of my late parents who never wrote, people i hadn't seen for about 30 years and was unlikely to see again. Quite frankly, I also was fed up with the letters about their riches, their perfect DCs and the unbelievably gifted GCs.
I felt so much better after that. I now send about 5 cards by post, and the rest by e-mail. If they don't like it, they can lump it!
Having said all that, I love Christmas, the build-up, the services, the carols, the church decorations, the food, the whole blooming lot!

I reckon that as Christmas starts at midnight on 24 Dec and goes on until Epiphany on 6th Jan it is ok if my cards arrive within that time frame! Everything seems to happen earlier every year so the excitement has worn off by Christmas Day!
