Charity blackmail

I just reseal the envelope, write 'return to sender unsolicited goods' on the envelope and put it back in the post box.

I do the same with anything unsolicited that comes through the letterbox.

Neither do I. It is real put off.

Anything unsolicited goes in the recycling bin. We choose our charities.

We don't even open them. Straight in the recycle bin.

At this time of year the charity envelopes come through the door thick and fast.We have two charities that we support and anything else goes either back in the post or in the bin.It's marketing that's all, free goods to induce guilt, it must work, and for every ten in the bin, they get one cheque, which makes it worth it.
More annoying are the chuggers shaking tins at you or knocking on the door.We had two at the door this week, not wanting something in a tin, but wanting to sign us up to a guaranteed monthly amount by direct debit.

Hard reality: we cannot support every charity!

Never thought of sending it back, will do that next time, glad to hear I'm not alone.

A few weeks ago, whilst my husband was in hospital, very ill, a young man came to the door, wearing the charity identification badge, wanting me to sign up for a regular donation to a deaf children`s charity. The payments were by direct debit and I explained that I didn`t have that sort of bank account, that my husband paid all the bills from his. The young man said "You can sign up using your husband` debit card", I said I couldn`t, it wouldn`t be right. So he departed, saying, "That`s alright, you go back and put your feet up in front of the fire, don`t worry about the deaf children!" My flabber has never been so gasted!

We give regular contributions to a couple of children's charities and have done for some years. Not long after we retired we kept on getting phone calls from the national one asking us to increase our contribution. Eventually OH told them that as we had recently retired we did not feel we could afford to increase our donations and if they continued to ring and ask us we would simply cancel the DD - we never had a call from them again and we continue with the DD.
In contrast the local charity has never asked us to increase our contributions but now and again send us an email with news of any projects etc - this gives us a very good feeling towards them and I never walk past the shop they now have in the town without going in to pop coins in their collection box.
