My Grandson has spoken often of his friend 'Sienna' . Personalising some birthday treats for his upcoming party it turns out they spell her name 'Xeyenna' ???????

The fashion for naming babies after where they were conceived (Brooklyn Chelsea etc) fortunately doesn't seem to have spawned too many imitators. Imagine a Dad saying "but I've never been to the US?)

Besides which, isn't Hero a girl's name? From my vague memories of Greek mythology.

I heard a mother calling to her little boy....'Hero, come along Hero'. What if he wasn't brave? What if he's afraid of spiders? Poor little lad.

When I had my daughter I had a very traditional very Irish GP who thundered into the maternity ward and said in ringing tones 'if you've called that child something ridiculous I'm not attending her. Children would have names they can grow old with'. As it happened I thought the same and wanted classical rather than biblical names as my mother would have preferred so Helen Josephine it was and it does her very well.

I cant help thinking that a lot of children are going to grow up and want to change their names - what seems fashionable and celebrity based now will have long been outmoded.
