My Grandson has spoken often of his friend 'Sienna' . Personalising some birthday treats for his upcoming party it turns out they spell her name 'Xeyenna' ???????

We avoided calling DS1 Sutton Coldfield and opted for a Biblical name instead.

My neighbour's first son was named Ross, her second was referred to as Cromarty until he was born.

Someone I know was named Caesar even before birth, because of his planned Caesarian arrival. His little brothers had to have names that came up to that standard, of course.

It is difficult for children who have middle names that begin with a vowel as you can make words from the initials - and some times not what you planned! I should know!!!!

My great-nephew is called Lyle and when his sister was expected DH suggested she should be called Tate (she wasn't!).

Rosesarered regarding the Scarborough & Bridlington comment, I lived and went to school in Brid for several years and remembered it with affection. However I went back a couple of years ago and was so disappointed, it was dirty, lots of tacky shops and generally far from the place I remembered. I know our memory plays tricks as time goes on but even so ......

Up until reasonably recently children in France were only allowed to be named after a saint - that was considered the way to protect the child.

I think that Bridlington was always the more downmarket sister to Scarborough, but staying near Scarborough last year, it seemed much as it was 50 years ago ( Peaseholm Park, still there.) But, oh dear, Bridlington was a disappointment.Yes, Brid had a good beach, but seemed very depressing, and a lot people supping out of bottles(not babies. )

Mind you, Whitby had a lot of people sitting everywhere, walls, even the pavement and noshing fish and chips from paper bags.Not a pleasant sight.

Yes but this was 'wall to wall' if you will forgive the pun! Plus all over the pavements.Next time we will go at a quieter time, it was as if all the inhabitants of East Yorks had crammed in to Whitby that day, with the express wish of eating fish and chips al fresco and much as I love fish and chips ( only have them on holiday usually as we don't live near enough to a shop) if was very off putting.
