Pond slime

I see some pond slime amongst us has had a trigger finger problem again. Since I don't know who did it, I won't be calling anyone names by saying that the word I'm thinking now is "Bastards!"

Jings got banned.

It appears from everything I've heard that she got banned because her posts were reported more times than HQ could reasonably deal with.

Logically this means someone or several someones reported her posts.

Jings came back with another name and got banned again. She told me this morning via Twitter. I wrote the OP because I was angry

about the REPORTING that, as I said earlier, seems to me the most likely explanation for the repeated banning.

Illogical?

Nonsense.

thatbags Wed 30-Nov-16 20:38:09

My conjecture could be wrong (though I doubt it) but it is not illogical.

GN don't delete posts without careful thought
Yes they do. I had a post deleted because somebody had accused me of saying that "all Syrians are rapists"
When I challenged them and asked where in my post I said that, they apologised and admitted that I hadn't but the deletion still stands.

There has been more squabbling, frustration, anger and accusations since jingl has been banned (again) than there ever was when she was an active member.

I think she has upset someone at HQ with possibly a personal remark and that's that. There will be no let up....so there!

Jalima Wed 30-Nov-16 22:43:26

Bags I think that Cari was also on the thread which Candlefran appeared on and on which someone unwittingly outed her.
So probably no-one reported her, it was perhaps noticed.

I was hoping that she had slipped under the radar but, for whatever reason - I know not what - her presence was noted and she was sent on her way again.

We could set up another forum, not just a Hell's Kitchen - what about Hellsgrans - and grandads?

Been asleep for a couple of hours but now my knees are burning so I'll read for a bit and down a mug of hot chocolate.

Yes, that conjecture could be right, jalima, and so could merlot's last one. Jingl's banishment is a sad thing and the Twitter PM I had from her yesterday morning worried me.

I'd be very surprised, janea, even though you clearly disliked my choice of words on this thread, if you do not actually have the same feeling towards retributive tattling as I do: that "telling on" someone in order to get them into trouble is a slimey and dastardly thing to do.

I'm not ashamed of getting a little over-heated in defence of a friend whom I feel has been unjustly treated.

NanaandGrampy Thu 01-Dec-16 09:50:05

Sorry to hear your knees kept you awake Bags , hopefully they're just a little better this morning.

The good thing about accepting either Jalima or * Merlotgrans* version of the events is that there was no part played by ' pond slime' .

Surely that must be a good thing? It can't be a happy place to be in suspicion of all your fellow GNetters .

TriciaF Thu 01-Dec-16 09:58:44

Just to add to what I wrote about the anonymous reporting system - I didn't mean it makes me feel guilty, but when it happens the effect is to start guessing who it might be. Then it gets to the point where you can't trust anyone.
This went on a lot in occupied countries in WW2, and resulted in loss of social cohesion in communities.

Charleygirl Thu 01-Dec-16 09:59:30

In the years I have been with GN I have reported many people but each has been trying to sell their wares and I have been thanked by GNHQ for spotting them early. The majority have been a one/off.

The times that I have been upset by personal rudeness I have bowed out of the thread and let people fight it out. It is a cowardly act to PM GNHQ because you want somebody off the site.

I think that it was wrong to "out" Jingl* on the other thread but the deed has been done.

merlotgran Thu 01-Dec-16 10:00:23

[sigh]

Bags was referring to the posters who kept reporting jingl in the first place - over and over again which caused HQ to lose patience. A bust up proably (and I don't know this. I have NO inside information) occurred which led to jingl losing her rag and telling HQ what she thought of them so no.....It's not a Good Thing.

Anya Thu 01-Dec-16 10:09:10

My outburst was aimed at those people too. It is undeniable that jingl was targeted and I don't care if my post upset them.

There is absolutely no need, and no intention on my part, for those who are totally innocent to feel guilty and I have reassured a couple of people personally.

thatbags Thu 01-Dec-16 10:09:54

It seems some pond slime does exist, though when I started the thread I only sensed it. Now I know. I'm glad to say my innocence throughout the whole sordid affair is intact. I don't regret one ounce of my unladylike language (never claimed to be a lady anyhow). Sordidness deserves strong language.

I'm currently in a state of shock. I daresay I'll recover. Poor Jings.

merlotgran Thu 01-Dec-16 10:11:40

Charleygirl, jingl's 'outing' was obviously a genuine mistake. I'm sure the poster didn't mean any harm.

merlotgran Thu 01-Dec-16 10:17:28

The problem is that if jingl ever manages to sneak under the wire again, how can it be the same old jingl? The minute she started to let a bit of humour creep into her posts she became recognisable and GNHQ are clearly not having any.

End of!

TriciaF Thu 01-Dec-16 10:19:51

I'm sure she didn't mean any harm either - she's definitely not like that.
Anyway, as I've always said, it's best to be upfront on the forum, rather than reporting. Though I don't think GNHQ agrees.

Ana Thu 01-Dec-16 10:22:11

It's a very sad state of affairs. IMO of course - I know there are some who don't agree.

Luckygirl Thu 01-Dec-16 11:14:58

I have only ever reported advertising and, on one occasion, my concern over "medical" advice that, from my work experience, was a potential danger to the OP.

I wish we could draw a line under all this. We will never know precisely why jings was banned, but we do know that she did invite it quite openly on the forum, so should not be surprised that it happened in the end. I hope she has fund some other forum to join and enjoy, but I am sure she would not want her situation to trigger arguments, hurt and suspicion on this forum.

In the main most posters are genuine and offer thoughts, humour, advice and care in huge measure - so let us concentrate on that and not allow this incident to undermine this. What's done is done and we should concentrate on the positive, which is hugely in the majority.

Luckygirl Thu 01-Dec-16 11:15:20

"found"

Anya Thu 01-Dec-16 12:02:41

Continuing the medical analogy Lucky that might be like putting s sticking plaster on an infected wound and hoping it would be all right.

It might suit some if a line was drawn under this, but there are principles at stake. People on this thread who feel strongly that an injustice has been done are not inclined to just let it go. Had this been entirely of jingl's own making, that might have been a different matter.

But it seems there were other forces at play, which is really what this is all about.

Luckygirl Thu 01-Dec-16 14:06:00

The trouble with principles is that they would have left us with N. Ireland still tearing itself apart, S Africa ditto and none of us would have spoken to a German.

Sometimes you have to let go in the wider interest.

Ana Thu 01-Dec-16 14:24:44

I have just taken advice from another thread and typed but deleted a very angry post. I think an 'ignore' post would work much better...

Ana Thu 01-Dec-16 14:25:13

for 'post' please read 'button'!

Anya Thu 01-Dec-16 14:28:14

With the greatest respect Lucky I think you are confusing principles with something else.

Luckygirl Thu 01-Dec-16 14:39:24

Oh - what am I confusing it with?

merlotgran Thu 01-Dec-16 14:49:37

Sometimes you have to let go in the wider interest.

In whose interest would that be?
