Kiln dried wood

A lot of garden centres sell heat logs lucky girl. They are made of compressed sawdust. They give out good heat but are not always easy to get going.

And they disintegrate if you keep them too long.

Could I ask where you get your Heat logs from and do you burn these exclusively or mixed with other logs?

Thanks for all these ideas. I will look up heat logs and and have sent off for a moisture meter.

DD has started to use kiln dried in theirs. They light easily,burn well and do seem to give a long burning time. But we ( DS and I) were thinking the same thing about the environmental side of it. Does seem to defeat the object.

I bought a Stihl water content guage which measures the moisture content in logs. Our seasoned ones measure 11% which is I believe, very acceptable.

We've changed to heat logs as they burn much slower and leave less ash.

We use seasoned wood. I always associate kiln-dried wood with building construction, where builders may need wood that is structurally stable.

We use seasoned wood in ours. I've never seen kiln dried wood for sale.

Sorry, that doesn't answer your question. Having looked it up, they use either gas or electricity.
