How do you pronounce...

My OH says wAsp; I say wosp.

I would say au as in autmn. OH would say ow as in OW SHUT UP!

I say tomato OH says tomarto!

Like someone said before it depends where you come from. I'm told I don't have a particular accent having been dragged around with my father who was in the RAF. We moved 15 times and I have done the same with OH who was also in the RAF.

Doesn't really matter as they taste the same don't they.

I can remember sprinkling it with salt and leaving it for ages then rinsing it well before cooking with it. What on earth was that about? I don't remember it making any difference at all to the taste. Or do I just not have refined taste buds?

I do like it but I am not good at cooking it!
It absorbs a lot of oil unless you're very careful.

Love aubergine but it needs to be cooked with olive oil and garlic.

I love aubergine pesto. And that Sicilian dish with the spicy mince inside and cheese on top is yummy (parmigianno?). It's a good job I've had my tea!

Just to add to the confusion in the Caribbean we call it melongene (pronounced melonjen).

I bought an aubergine from the local supermarket. At the checkout the assistant was looking on a price list for it under 'o'!

In a different context, I really dislike when an 'r' intrudes where there isn't one eg Anna r Anderson. It's just never heard in Scotland and I can't work out where it comes from!

Oh- bergine as it sounds like the french word Auberge (Oh-berge ).

There is nothing at all italian about saying Eggplant instead of aubergine the translation is Melanzane.
