What's your talent?

My gran used to insist that EVERYONE has a talent ( after watching Honey G on the X Factor I'm not so sure !!).

My Grans was to make the best Yorkshire puddings ever.

I'm a crafter and haven't found anything I can't knit, sew or glue !

My eldest daughters talent is to fill her house with happy children ( hers and everyone else's) without fear or favour to the house, housework etc. She can sit amongst the most noise and chaos and all she sees are happy kids.

I wondered what YOUR special talent is?

I can paint a bit too, but my paintings/drawings would never hang in the National Gallery grin

I am a reasonable artist , would never say `good` as I am good at putting myself down too .

Talent is:
a natural aptitude or skill.

So I may have learned crafts eg sewing, knitting, a musical instrument (badly), how to cook etc but unfortunately I have no talent; can't sing, not a natural dancer (two left feet), nor a runner, long or high jumper, swimmer (the DGC can beat me now), used to play tennis, netball but certainly not talented at sport.

So no. I am not talented.

I'm a finisher, no task stays unfinished around me. I'm also a good listener and patient - most of the time!

Thingmajig Tue 22-Nov-16 19:34:17

According to the bag DD gave me a couple of years ago I make the best lentil soup, yule log and carrot cake. smile

I'm also a crafter, I knit, sew and make cards ... and much mess!

I try to be a good daughter, mother and gran but not sure how successful I am really.

I am an excellent and happy babysitter

I always think I'm pretty useless to be honest but yes we are good at dismissing our talents so I've come up with a few more after much thought grin I am good at helping people (I help little children learn to read in a local school and assist on school trips). If family or friends are in trouble, I try to help or point them in the right direction. I am good at managing our finances. I help my DD out in every way I can (including doing her ironing!) I have overcome a pretty traumatic life and am still here. If it wasn't for me, family would never get together. When my DGD said to me this year 'nan can we make a Christmas cake?' I my usual negativity came into play. I thought 'oh no, I've never made one, it will be useless.' Guess what? It was a beauty. Thank you for the post, Nanaandgrampy maybe I'm not so hopeless after all smile

ginny that made me howl. I really do wish i could knit, my beloved Nana had the patience of a saint until it came to teaching me to knit, i just cant do it.
My talent lies with children, i adore them, i love their stories, their arguments and their logic.A room of 48 children doesnt faze me at all.

I only discovered mine at the weekend at a PTA quiz. Turns out I am very talented at blind tasting cereal which has been ground up into unrecognisable crumbs. Who knew? (8/10 and the 2 I didn't get I had never actually eaten so I think that's fair enough)

LadyGracie Tue 22-Nov-16 17:28:07

I'm a good knitter and I'm told a great baker. Also told not a very good mother!

ninathenana Tue 22-Nov-16 17:25:03

H always says I have a good eye for colour and style when it comes to home decorating. I wouldn't have the gall to call myself an interior designer though.

ginny Tue 22-Nov-16 17:17:19

I am extremely talented at being me.

br0adwater Tue 22-Nov-16 17:14:17

Sleeping.

I'm really good at sleeping and nothing disturbs me: light, lumpy bed, heat, him snoring, even children crying. That last one was a problem when the kids were small as that meant Dad always had to respond (wink).

What lovely thoughts, NanaandGrampy.

Sadly everything in my childhood was measured by academic achievement, and though I shone here, I now believe there are far more important talents of which to be proud. sad

I try to make at least one person's life better every day, so hopefully that fits with your description of a kind, thoughtful person.

Everything counts and I for one would always value a good organiser Charley .

How good are we all at dismissing our talents? Is that our British reserve or something women do or specific just to individuals do you think?

Tanith being able to knit at all is a big thing these days and you would be in great demand for the trendy hipsters who are willing to spend a fortune on a one of a kind hand knit.

Anyone with people skills of any kind is what we need more in this world where people talk to much and listen too little.

There are many here Alima who would beg you to come and show them how to carve out some 'me' time.

I say we should be celebrating our talents , even good worriers smile that just says to me you're good at caring about someone or something.

So I think if you make great pastry, are a gifted gardener, the best Nan EVER or are just a kind and thoughtful person you're talented !!

Charleygirl Tue 22-Nov-16 15:44:03

The talent gene passed me by unless being a good organiser is a talent.

tanith Tue 22-Nov-16 15:16:59

I'm a good plain knitter if that counts. Can't do the real fancy stuff though.grin

kittylester Tue 22-Nov-16 15:04:14

I have no talents at all but DH surprised me yesterday when he said he thinks I'm a good listener and that I 'get' people!

Greyduster Tue 22-Nov-16 10:49:07

I've been told I have a talent for diplomacy - a bit of a peacemaker. That all went out the window yesterday when I was trying to sort out an argument between three nine year old males, and I had to resort to laying down the law big style!! Other than that I paint a passable picture when the muse is on me.

Teetime Tue 22-Nov-16 10:31:34

I'm good with people. Its not me saying it I have been told and appraised many times and that always comes out. I do like being with people though and love managing a team or two.

Teetime Tue 22-Nov-16 10:30:12

I'm good with people.

KatyK Tue 22-Nov-16 09:54:38

I love that Jane10 I'm one of those too! I used to be good at knitting but it's years since I did that and am not sure if I remember how. People tell me I give good, thoughtful gifts. My DGD says I'm the best nan ever smile However, I would love to be talented at something like dancing, playing an instrument or such like. Hey ho.

grannylyn65 Tue 22-Nov-16 09:41:22

I write comic verse !!

Jane10 Tue 22-Nov-16 09:30:26

I am a gifted worrier!

gettingonabit Tue 22-Nov-16 09:26:38

Piano.

And procrastinating.

I SO wish I was talented at something useful....
