It isn't just immigration Anniebach it is a system which has consistently failed to meet housing needs, provide employment which is reliable and pays, protect the NHS and local services, and improve conditions for the poor. Unfortunately the Labour party is seen as part of the problem. I fully agree that it is a difficult path to find, but the centre ground is now firmly occupied by the Tories. We know they are lying and don't care, but the spin doctors have presented them well and many have been fooled by their "caring" speeches. If the Labour party doesn't find some sort of new path it becomes irrelevant. The problem is managing the conflicting issues of appealing to the more affluent whilst reassuring the poorest. Looking at the past doesn't really help, things have changed.

And let's not forget it was the unions who won the leadership fir Ed Milliband

trisher, I am quite aware of UKIP gaining votes, people fear immigration . To win an election moving far left may bring in votes from UKIP but will not win an election .

Not looking back, I believe if we do not learn from the past we will repeat the same mistakes in the future.

I am a Labour party member of many years, if Corbyn cannot inspire me how is he going to win votes in middle England .

If you stopped harking back and looked at what is happening now Anniebach you might realise that UKIP are gaining support in working class areas because they offer something different, because they have ideas and alternatives that are outside the narrow centre bubble that politicians have inhabited for the last 30 years. The alternative to UKIP is not a centre left party that no one can now distinguish from the carefully spun rhetoric of the Tories. It is a party that firmly places the blame for poverty on the rich and powerful and offers real alternatives for housing and employment. But ignore the advance of UKIP if you wish and they will continue to gain popularity in the areas of deprivation and poverty that were once labour strongholds.

That's right anniebach, the only way that Labour got back into power was not by moving to the far left, it was by moving more to the centre and appealing to more people who want neither extreme of right or left.

If the grass roots who voted for Corbyn cannot see that then they will never celebrate a Labour victory.

To fight off the far right by going far left is not the answer , the UK voter will not vote for the far left . We saw this through the the thatcher years followed by labour being in the wilderness for years

As all parties have moved to the right in the last 10 -15 years the "centre" ground is now just Ted Heath Tory and so left of centre is perceived as more extreme!
As more right wing attitudes become 'mainstream' they normalise and accepted as OK and leaves space for both real extreme Left and Right to grow and that is how civil unrest/ wars can begin.
Wake up everyone and slow this move to the far right. It it too important to be quibbling over the immediate minutiae ..see the big picture. It benefits nobody but the extremely wealthy to live in an extreme right wing world.

UK has moved as far right as it can without being UKIP.
May can't pretend to be centre ground with all the cuts still in place in the DWP. She's not doing anything for the poor and the homeless, like she said she would, a government for all.

America has moved to the far right, France may do the same but the UK will move far left? I think not

I have always voted Labour and am not embarrassed to say so. Tony Blair was a huge disappointment, especially the Iraq war..which we are still dealing with and which I lobbied & marched against. I am not "my party right or wrong" That said the core values of the Labour party are still the ones I believe in. If I thought tactical voting was worth a go to move political power back to centre ground I would do so. Things have moved so far to the right I fear we have to suffer some extreme situations b4 the pendulum starts to move left again.

A little regret might be nice

As I said Labour party policy has never been one of war and aggression, yes we voted for Tony Blair but the war was an unexpected and unpredictable event and we at least showed our distaste for it even if we were ignored.

I didn't vote Tory. I know what their real policies and ideals are no matter what they may announce or 'spin'. The old guard are still there steering the ship.There seem to be a lot of people who voted but didn't expect what they got, and won't accept responsibility for what they did.
