How much does your purse weigh?

When I go on a plane I can put all I need into my bumbag - cash, cards (only two), specs, even passport and folded boarding passes.

My GP weighed my bag after I developed a very painful shoulder and it weighed 12lb which was utterly ridiculous (like carrying a hefty baby around!).
Since then I have used a small(er) bag and having stopped working it's fine. All I carry is a purse, phone, tissues and keys plus a couple of folded 'bags for life'.

If I need to take more I use a backpack and wear it properly. My shoulder's still not right 4 years on so beware!

Pamish I don't wear trousers as they don't suit me and only have one skirt with pockets. So have no choice but to carry keys in my bag.

If we're doing handbags too, then mine contains only my empty purse, door key, tissue and a pen. I'm a minimalist.

Just a few days ago my son asked if I had 3 pound coins as he needed some for a parking meter, so I gave him them, to be rewarded with 3 pounds worth of 5p pieces. Wish I'd weighed my purse then.

KEYS need to be in your pocket not in the same bag as anything that can show your address. Or edit to make sure there's nothing that can be used to find it. Imagine if your bag is stolen or gets left on the train (yes I have done this) and as well as losing all your cash and treasures you have to race home using the Oyster card that's gone, to get there before the thieves and get the locks changed using the phone you no longer have, paying with the cards that you have cancelled.

If keys make holes in your pockets because you have so many, at least take out one main key and keep that one separate.

I don't understand the lady who goes out without a bag. At the least you need keys and nearly always card or cash. I need to carry reading glasses, which is common. Almost everyone carries a phone nowadays. How can you go out without these basics? I do usually carry a lot more than that.

345g today but not many coins in it- usually heavier. If i kept cards separately Id never have them when i need them. Besides tissues, comb, lipstick, diary, pens, and phone I need two pairs of glasses. Oh, -
And keys! Sometimes i also have a collapsible umbrella, bottle of water and a paperback book - then its really heavy.

I have small leather handbag which was bought for my 40th Birthday (21 years ago), when I go out for Lunch or Afternoon Tea I take that bag with small purse, only money I actually need, glasses & door keys (usually get a lift so don't need car keys).

When I go to local shops just take my National Trust Jute bag with small purse & debit card.

I have a larger handbag which I take if I go into larger Supermarkets &/or Town, large purse which is heavy even without money in it, lots of cards although some are in a separate card holder. I empty my purse every-time I come home & take all change out apart from up to 5 £1 coins & notes. Love 5p coins, I save those in a little money box (metal to look like a dustbin with slot in lid - silly Christmas present for DH containing chocolate fish & little soft toy kitten)

Mine weighed in at 367g, quite a bit of change and cards, freedom pass, photo, £45 in notes, I think that new fiver weighs a ton

Just popped it on the scales and got one hell of a shock, it's 457g!
Assorted debit, store loyalty and DS's business cards, a small silver horseshoe that never left DM's purse and now never leaves mine, £5-65 in change, card sized magnifier, a 'Victorinox swiss card quattro' £25-00 store voucher, and two photographs,
Is it any wonder I have a bad shoulder? I really must have a sort out!

Hardly anything it only carries £50 notes , never change.

I only ever use a twee shoulder bag which carries my purse, a combe, mobile phone, pen, note book and jewellers loop.
My purse only has my bon marche and credit card plus a bit of change and notes dependent on whether I have been to the hole in the wall.

My sister carries the kitchen sink!

I agree with Bijou but it's like planning a military campaign to have all your necessary STUFF in safe places.

My purse is usually in my bag but I keep my car keys in my pocket in case my bag is stolen. I have the necessary phone number to ring in case I need to stop my cards in the glove pocket of the car and a spare key in my handbag in case I lose the car keys in my pocket.

If somebody steals my bag and raids my pockets I'm stuffed!

OMG!! 633g!!!!! And there are very few coins in it at the moment.
I can't think why as I keep cards in a separate holder.
Mind you it is very pretty- Cath Kidson to match my bag so I'm keeping it. My bag always weighs a ton- maybe that is why I have rotator cuff injury in shoulder although I had it in left shoulder first & I only ever carry bag on right shoulder.
What with phone, glasses, sun glasses (I always wear them to drive), diary, brush, sweeteners, keys, pens, tissues, colour swatch, card case etc it is a wonder I can lift it.Kindle too if I am picking children up from school as they are always last out!

I cannot understand why many people carry cash, notes, credit cards etc in the same purse. I used to so do until I had my purse stolen whilst shopping which meant I lost everything and had to borrow money from a friend to pay for my shopping. Now I have a purse for cash, another for cards leaving my credit card at home. Would only lose the lot if my large handbag/shopper was stolen.

I carry a ridiculously heavy handbag with quite a heavy purse despite the fact I make most purchases using credit card and often have little cash. I can't bear to be out without something I might need. When I was married I had a small handbag for evenings out and a tiny purse for a small amount of cash but since my divorce I rarely use it as it is full with just my phone, purse and bunch of keys which I can no longer leave at home!

Purse 212.6 grams. Since the doc told me my shoulder problems were caused by or exacerbated by my handbag I carry very little- purse, tablets, sunglasses, tissues and driving licence. Oh and my phone if I have no pockets. She did tell me that the upside of carrying that much weight was that I'd be unlikely to suffer from osteoporosis.

They do seem to weigh a ton sometimes lol. I empty small change into a pot every few days, two pound coins go into another pot and if I have too many pound coins a few join them. It's surprising how quickly you collect enough to fill a coin bag.
Five pence pieces are a complete waste of time, why do we need them?
A friend of mine never carries cash, we used to call her Queenie lol. Occasionally had to lend her some but not very often.

DH and I emptied all our copper into a machine at the supermarket last week and was surprised to find we had £14.75 off our shopping bill. I must say I dislike 5pence pieces they are so fiddly and get buried in the bottom of your purse.

I only carry some dog poo bags (in my bra usually, prior to use of course)............and a bank card if I need money. Why cart loads of stuff about ??

I recycle all the coins my husband brings home in his trouser pockets. A few are kept in the car for car parking but otherwise I regularly have a too heavy purse. I get rid when I buy something for £7 or so I tip out all my change. The shop keeper is generally glad to get it. I make sure there isn't a queue behind me.

I usually have no cash either, we also save coppers and 5 pences in a jar, surprising how they mount up without missing them . If I ever do get a bit of cash out DH usually takes it, saying to me " I just took that money out of your purse to save me using the card"
He hates cards, and ATM machines, God knows why.

My purse weighs very little, it's empty.
I spent too much last month so am aiming to shop only once a week and spend as little as possible this month. I'm desperately missing my newspaper, which was free if I spent £5 in Waitrose but now you have to spend £10 so I can only buy it on Saturdays.
If The Guardian goes bust it's going to be all my fault.
