I'm an old grump at Hallow e'en. If the GC aren't coming round I lock the doors, pull the curtains and ignore any bells or knocks. I don't put a pumpkin out but it made no difference this year - the bell ringing and door knocking occurred and reoccurred with even greater intensity! Sweets? Bah! Humbug!

I had to rush into hospital on Monday evening with a bleed in my replaced knee (never felt agony like it)so I missed any Trick or Treaters. I will give the sweeties I had already bought to my next-door-neighbours' two little granddaughters.

Same thing happened to me. I have since been told that you have to leave a pumpkin, or a light;, some indication so the children know they can call.
I'll remember that for next time.

I'd check the sell-by date on the sweets!This year I used some from last year, as they still hadn't reached their sell-by date.

radicalnan Snap! I also bought fingers of fudge because I'm a bit partial and yippee, no callers! ...14 still to go, tough work, but a shame to waste them.

And last week I ate all the mixed bag of sticky lollies and chews I bought as an alternative to the chocolate. My conscience got the better of me when I thought about the damage to be done to little milk teeth. My dentist will be looking askance at my old molars, yet again.

Oh dear, I've just logged into GN and spotted this thread while chomping on a mini Mars bar, the fourth since 4 o'clock today. We got home after 7 on Monday after looking after DGS2, so most of the tinies had been and gone We only got rid of 3 out of our 56 bars. There are significantly fewer in the cauldron now though

No point giving them to the DGS as their sweets are strictly rationed. It'll be Easter by the time they've eaten the treats they collected on Monday.

I am eating a left-over ginger'dead' man at the moment! As always I went to town with baking 30 of them and 36 cupcakes as well as buying drinks, fruit, KitKats and Haribo. I made myself throw away the remaining cakes but I am working my way through the rest!
I counted the children this year and 44 visited me! I was pleased that most wished me a happy Halloween rather than 'trick or treat' being used.

First time in 14 years that I didn't have any sweeties but didn't have any callers either. I think the little ones who used to call....all in wonderful costumes and usually with one parent...are all too grown up now to bother.
One year I asked what the trick was....
Fast reply from a young boy...."We don't have one because of the recession !!!"
Made me laugh so much they had extra helpings of sweetits. I missed them really as they were always so polite and cute.

Same experience; only one caller. I think it's the new etiquette of only calling at houses with lit pumpkins.
Oh dear we now have a tin of Roses to eat. Luckily I hate them but DH delighted.

Never thought of that Gagagran - but all of ours had parents with them, so I don't know whether the clown thing was a factor. Someone suggested it might be because it followed a weekend and lot of people had parties etc. then.

A lot of people said there were fewer Halloween visitors this year. We are usually inundated in our street and I run out of candy after an hour or so. This year I had the usual two huge bowls and there were still plenty of callers but the candy lasted nearly two hours. I wonder why this year was different.

My 11-year old DGD, who loves dressing up and all Halloween related things, refused to go out trick or treating because she is terrified of the clowns craze. Wonder if that explains the lack of door knockers evident on this thread? We also had none.

I only had two lots of callers and I watched one lot of older children look into our front garden but then move on to the neighbours' house. I think there might have been quite a drive from schools and parents about only stopping at those houses where lighted pumpkins are on view. I have packets of Viscount biscuits and Rocky bars to use up now.

I had to trick or treat myself, and I was fabulous at it....hardly any fingers of fudge left........

I bought a bag of fun size Maltesers and had eaten them well before Halloween. but fortunately I didn't have any callers.

One lot last year. I said in a friendly manner, "where do you live then?" One of them said "next door", lol.

For the past couple of years, we have had no Trick or Treaters, so bought no treats this year. Murphy's law, this year we had one! DH gave her two apples, she was delighted, but I had no lunch time apple for today. ?

Would be terrible to waste good food, no need to share with any small people as it only causes dental problems for them. Go for it sunseeker

DH bought some packs of sweeties just in case, no-one called round. I don't like any of the sweets

I suppose that the moral of the story is to only buy sweets that you want to eat yourself in future.So, that's Maltesers or Thorntons toffee for me.

We had none, so my OH has a lovely treat bucket! He's ecstatic!
