Today I fell in Love

In this house it is all English Bull Terriers. We have just had DS's EBT staying for a few days and she is delightful. She has lots of fans in the village when we go for a walk. We had one for many years when our boys were young and it is lovely to have one in the house again.

I went to see a neighbour today and her dog is having puppies very soon. Please don't let me buy a pug, not my first choice in dogs but puppies can be very persuasive.

We had bassets and the funniest thing was the look on the puppies' faces when they discovered that they couldn't move as they were standing in their ears.

Bedlington/Whippets are like miniature Deerhounds/Wolfhounds. I'm tempted to have one one day but I'm so used to whippets I'm scared that I'll regret it. They're more inclined to want to go out when it's raining for a start I think. I'm on a Beddie/Whippet facebook page and I just melt when I see the pictures of them.

We had an Irish Wolfhound when our children were small, he was the sweetest natured dog you could ever hope to meet and allowed our girls to sit on him and cuddle up to him as much as they wanted. He was 37 inches at his shoulder and weighed 14 stone, so was no shrimp! Lots of people wanted to pet him and he would just stand and let them, but we could see him in a way rolling his eyes as if to say " here we go again"

but actually greyhounds don't need a lot of space or walking - and they relax such a lot indoors and make perfect pets especially if you can offer a home to an older one - maybe not quite as pretty as a borzoi but you can get some beautiful colours and faces....

Best babe magnet I have ever seen was a puppy basset hound, the poor guy seemed to have been rooted to the spot with streams of women coming up to him to ooh and aah over the saddest and most adorable little dog ❤️ Generally not so attractive when they are in full voice though - we lived 2 doors away from one and when she got going you could feel as well as hear the baying!

Shanma. I have had the google the stupidest questions about technology (like 'how do I find my phone number?' when I got a new phone).
It is quite consoling to know how many other people ask the same 'silly' questions.

Thanks when I get a bit of time I will do that, mind you I don't use my fone for e mailing, that's probably why it didn't occur to me in the first place. duhh

We have a Tibetan terrier - he looks a bit like Pudsy dog so we get told regularly. Shanma I am so pleased that you actually ask the owner before stroking the dog - so many people don't and I am frequently telling children not to touch dogs without asking. Ours is a rescue dog and can be startled by someone suddenly touching him on the head as he walks past even though he is now well socialised.

Shanma. You can email photos from a phone to yourself and open the emails on your lap top and then download them. No doo dah necessary.

@HannahLoisLuke, I have two whippet crosses and one is ok (in her own time) at recall; the other is hopeless, which has meant lots of escapes and other 'adventures' but I've never needed to muzzle them. I must admit this did initially concern me but from pups they have been the gentlest of dogs - they are terrified of my daughter's cat but curl up with my two...

i fall in love every week not with a new man , very happy with the one i have but with a dog or two or three I work at the Dogs trust as a volenteer and walk a few dogs every week its rewarding as i can no longer have a dog due to being in rented place so walking a few dogs for a few hours a week helps to make up for it.

I love all the sight hounds. Salukis are especially beautiful. I long for a whippet but I'd never be able to let it off the lead for a gallop in case it didn't come back, I've heard that they're not great at recall. And even if it was good at coming back you'd have to put it in a muzzle so it couldn't attack small animals. So, for now at least I will admire them all from afar.

Not my cup of tea, they look a bit too boney for me.

I saw two rough collies on the beach a few weeks ago. It's been a long time since I saw one. I nearly bought a smooth coated rough collie many years ago as I knew I couldn't cope with the grooming, but decided against it. The owner of the collies said their temperament was quite different from border collies.

Kitty they are not really the same shape, and have different faces . I shall have to stick with my old boy anyway, a rough collie. I wish I could put a picture of him here, but they are on my phone, I don't think I have a doo dah to put pics from the phone onto the laptop.

I wouldn't have another rough collie I think, he is a great dog in the house, never chewed or stolen anything, and is good when out, never pulled, he can be a bit unpredictable though, but then that is collie dogs for you . The main thing I hate is the brushing Oh boy that is almost a full time job, anyway wouldn't be without him. My neighbour always calls him His Lordship because he so posh and handsome( her words not mine), his real name by the way is Dougal.

A bit like greyhounds too. They'll need a lot of outdoor space.

Many years ago when I was a schoolgirl I became friends with a girl whose parents had two Borzois. Although they looked very elegant I found them a bit aloof and one of them bit my friend on her face - I don't know the circumstances, whether she was teasing it etc. Sorry to be negative about Borzois Shanma.

I met someone once with a couple of Irish Wolfhounds and I totally fell in love with them. Never going to be able to have one though as they are too big. Oh but they are so adorable....

I love the way Borzois have a 'roman nosed' shaped head. If they're like other sighthounds they'll spend most of their life sleeping. I haven't seen one for a long time though. Cilla Black was a renowned breeder of Briards by the way; only found that out when speaking to a Briard owner last year. I once looked after someone's Afghan Hound for the night and he absolutely terrified me. I'd never had a dog that could reach up onto shelves and take whatever he wanted; in this case it was a squeaky Smurf belonging to my son. I think this friend bought one because he thought it would make him a 'babe magnet'. It didn't. He would have been better off with a spaniel. Whenever I left my ex husband with one of my cocker spaniels I always returned to find him being chatted to by young women.

Because, in my head, Borzois are shaved Afghans! And, conversations wander on Gn as well as in RL!

Yes we had that book too. How did Afghans get into this?

Yes, it was a great hit in our house. I believe he did have an Afghan.

Do you remember Frank Muir's book (presumably based on his own dog ) "What A Mess"??

When we first got married we had an Afghan hound (beautiful dog - daft idea) at the same time Cilla Black was pictured with her 2 beautiful Borzois looking sleek and elegant. Our Afghan always seemed to look as though it had been dragged through a hedge, backwards, twice!
