Although I'm a fairly regular poster on MN, I lurked for quite a while here before I joined about three weeks ago. In that time I've been called a precious snowflake; accused of having a fit of the vapours ; being incredibly snobby, being satisfied to have something at which to take offence, creating a storm in a teacup, sniping, jumping in on one side or the other straightaway ( as a new poster) but you know the one thing that has really cut me to the quick was being accused of only knowing about 'six quid bottles ( of wine ) from the supermarket'. Anyway, will be having a break now for a few days and when I come back, I promise to behave better and to have drunk some more expensive wine

.kitty that's not like you shock

Let's take a step back. Casawan posted what I thought was quite a witty post, but others found it offensive.

She later apologised. Whereupon she was subjectec to another pounding and somewhat patronising remarks.

She has simply stood her ground and responded in a feisty manner telling DB quite rightly that she's 'not in charge' and suggesting they are poles apart and might do better to ignore each other.

I welcome a newcomer with a sense of humour and a bit of spirit.

I don't know what she's done to deserve such a barage but I think she will be a useful addition to this forum if she doesn't pack it in as a waste of time.

As you say casawan, you haven't been around long enough to 'know' people who have so why don't you take your time to get to know people a bit before you charge in making sweeping statements?

Casawan Sun 30-Oct-16 08:46:29

hilltopgran. Yes, Booths is an excellent place to shop. They have one in Lancaster which I use when visiting my brother, and I gave been to the one in Penrith on the way to Centreparcs at Whinfell. They did the best bacon rolls in their cafe I have ever eaten. Sadly there is not one here in N Cheshire though, but in this moderately-sized town we have 3 x M&S, 3 x Asda, 3 x Sainsbury's, 1 x Morrisons, more Tesco stores than I can keep track of, more than one each of Lidl and Aldi and an Iceland superstore. There was talk of a Booths, but it is said they felt there was too much competition.

Casawan Sun 30-Oct-16 08:32:05

DB - I have not been around here long enough to know, but I hope there is nothing underlying that is making you seem so unhappy - and no, I am not being flippant.
FYI, I am quite capable of stroking the cat while using the iPad, I don't have a dog. I am an avid reader, currently back to Shardlake, but can't read all day. IMVHO, King Lear is boring and I suspect you are trying to assert your assumed superiority by suggesting that. Further, you are not in charge here so can't tell me what I can and can't do.
You and I are clearly poles apart in outlook so why don't we just ignore each other in future.

Why do the horrid posts attract so much attention. Page after page. The nasties jump in, stir up and leave. What's happening?

Christinefrance Sun 30-Oct-16 08:21:12

Well at least you provoked a bit of interest Rigby, better than vanilla conversations all the time. Keep on keeping on .

kittylester Sun 30-Oct-16 08:18:03

Stop!!

Anya Sun 30-Oct-16 07:57:15

Here we go again.

Accept the apology as not everybody 'got' her attempt at humour ....as I tried to point out last night.

DaphneBroon Sun 30-Oct-16 07:53:41

What are you comparing, casawan? Who do you see as bullying whom? It's quite an accusation and I might be interested in your evidence.
Having fun at the expense of others is a poor way to pass a Saturday night. There was an excellent BBC2 programme last night on productions of King Lear, for instance. Read a book, stroke the cat or walk the dog.

Casawan Sun 30-Oct-16 07:46:30

I can see that my attempts at humour failed catastrophically. So, I apologise to all the nice people out there. But DB, why else would you come on here if not to have fun and entertain yourself, and Saturdays evenings are boring. And what is worse, DB, 'winding people up' or bullying them just because their style, comments or views do not match yours?

DaphneBroon Sun 30-Oct-16 07:44:09

confused
Who mentioned you?

Anya Sun 30-Oct-16 07:38:13

DB at the risk of upsetting you again, may i politely suggest you take a leaf out of your own book and look at your own behaviour on GN.

No point in calling me out over this as I won't respond (taking a leaf out of my own book too) but a bit of introspection wouldn't go amiss.

Anya Sun 30-Oct-16 07:33:12

Think GN would be a better place if dodgy posts were ignored in the first place. Some are just too quick to jump in and turn a thread into something worse.

Glad to see lots of GN humour on here never-the-less sunshine

DaphneBroon Sun 30-Oct-16 07:28:30

Especially your final comment kittylesterthlsmile

If being rude and/or aggressive winding people up is an acceptable way to "have fun, Saturdays are so boring" that is not the GN I joined.
In the same way that it is now recognised that racist/sexist/ageist jokes are NOT "banter" perhaps they should think again.

kittylester Sun 30-Oct-16 07:20:50

A few points-
Some people do get terribly upset by nasty comments
We are not all women or even grandparents.
Most of us have little time on our hands to cause trouble.
GN is not normally bad tempered (or it wasn't) and is full of lovely, friendly people.

I'm sad about the way it is developing.thlsad

grannypiper Sun 30-Oct-16 06:58:15

Rigby, i feel your pain. I will Stick to Hock cheapest of the cheap and lovely.I but a grand total of 1 bottle a year

suzied Sun 30-Oct-16 04:41:22

Cassawan - I thought you had to be a teetotal northern dweller who owns a dog to be in the club?

Shanma Sun 30-Oct-16 00:30:46

Hmm there is alot of sarcasm, and nit picking back biting goes on here, but it goes on everywhere, in " Real Life" too. Amongst the silly, snobby, precious or whatever stuff there are some gems of information, shared experiences, funny stories and the like.

I tend to do what I do in " real Life", which is to ignore the ones I don't like. and join in with the ones I think are ok, even if I don't agree with the point being made, after all we don't all hold the same opinions on things, which is what makes it interesting, as long as it doesn't bring on a personal attack .

One thing I do think would be good if GNHQ are listening??? Don't be so quick off the mark to delete a post, that is so annoying to log in and find a few posts missing. I am sure we are all adult enough here to cope with a not so nice post now and again? What I would like to see is an ignore button so if someone upsets us, and we don't wish to see or communicate with them again, we can press that, it is then our decision and not that of a faceless person at head office. Perhaps we can un ignore at a later date when things have calmed down. Would anyone else like to see something like this?
Sorry this is a bit of a long post, but anyway better off my chest, and on here grin

Casawan, my favorite supermarket for a treat started I think in Preston, just had a week in the Lakes and shopped at Booths. We used to go to Ladies night at the races, so I can sympathise, but it was good entertainment to see just how badly people can behave, tinged with sadness that so much money was being wasted.

wot Sat 29-Oct-16 23:34:57

Ferrets have got a vicious bite. They have to be handled a lot when young. They are so inquisitive and have no fear. Very energetic.

Casawan Sat 29-Oct-16 23:23:24

Charleygirl - then I am moderately jealous. We don't even have a Waitrose up here.

Casawan Sat 29-Oct-16 23:21:22

Football wives, Huh, we should be so lucky. Judging from the racket coming from the pub nearby - newly refurbished hang-out for the 'university' off shoot just down the road - it's a bit more 'Shameless' than that. Sounds a bit like the dregs of Ladies day at Aintree.
I once got bitten by a ferret, or pole cat - not sure of the difference. Anyway, the wild variety which had been caught by one of our cats. It was truly beautiful - the ferret, not the cat which was a bit of a manky mutt - so I took pity on it and rescued it. Little bugger bit me to the bone. These northern critters have no sense of gratitude at all!

wot Sat 29-Oct-16 23:16:09

Nothing wrong with that, Charley.

Charleygirl Sat 29-Oct-16 23:09:14

I appear to tick all of Casawan's original boxes.

wot Sat 29-Oct-16 23:04:51

Ana, yes!
