Ahoy, Tegan!

Haggerston Castle, when we went there thirty years ago, was a medium sized caravan site. Not so great in itself, but really well placed for enjoying the area. When I was more recently staying in a cottage on the approach road to Holy Island, it seemed to have developed into something far bigger and noisier than I remember. Still a wonderful area to visit.

Oh shush! we are trying to keep the NE beaches a secret. Thank goodness for our awful weather, means we only get hardy tourists who don't mind a bit of wind.

We drive past Haggerston Castle on the way to Berwick, but I've never been in the place. There seems to be a riding stables there.

You just took me back thirty years and reminded me of the lovely holidays we had when my children were young. My M-I-L bought a caravan at Haggerston Castle and we spent many happy house on the rocks or beach at Bamburgh, and on other beaches thereabout. Thank you for that

Yes; it's in the dunes at Bamburgh. We have to go through it to get to the beach. There are lots of gates like that and I love all of them!

Is that gate in the Seahouses area Tegan?

During the war, the wall in front of one of the houses near us was blown down, but the gate and gateposts still stood. The family used to open and close it carefully every time they went in and out - they could have gone round it, and so could anyone else, but it was always firmly closed.

I like this one because there is absolutely no way that anyone could open or close it because of the sand; so does it still count as a gate?

I saw a great gate on the way to Wetherby racecourse today but, annoyingly I couldn't take a photo. It was a gate in the middle of a field, but with no fence on either side. Just a gate. A very rustic gate #mykindagate!
