Add to Gransnet's Halloween chain story

Could do one for 5th November. Maybe we could set some conditions, like a new celebrity name in every post or choose a genre-like a fairy tale, Mills and Boon or murder mystery?

Must admit I lost interest when it became clear the story wasn't going to be creepy...

Oh good Christinefrance. Would be fun to see Betsy and Mildred at Christmas. Hmmm ... wonder if that book will still be floating around! .

My thanks to everyone who contributed to this chain story. It had me giggling all the way through and it has been the first thread I looked at every day.

Not upset Juney64 I had been enjoying Mildred 's Halloween too. As you say all good things must come to an end.
Good luck Mildred and Betsy maybe we will see them at Christmas.

Oops, sorry Christinefrance. Didn't mean to upset you. Since there were less and less folks adding to the thread and Halloween coming to a close, I thought it was time to add some sort of ending.
I for one had a great time and laughed more than I have for ages at some of the things the Grans wrote.

Ok I give up.

Mildred and Betsy went for a wander round the house. 'Why are all the clocks stopped at midnight? ' she asked herself - again.
Just then, her phone rang. 'Hello, Mildred, are you there?' a voice said. The line was very crackly. She said 'yes, yes - who's this?' 'It's Brian Cox', came the answer.
"I've been fiddling around with the telescope up here and accidentally nudged the magnets. "Yes, and?", she said.
"well, the forces have kinda messed up all the clocks in your postcode so you need to reset them", came the reply. "These magnets can make all sorts of weird things happen down there on earth", he went on to say.
Mildred pulled her tights up again (the new tights were a size too big), looked at Betsy and said "come on pet, let's go to the kitchen. I've got some nice liver and bacon for you and I'm going to have that cheese toastie".

Eh...?

Said a voice.. Mildred turned and in the doorway stood...

Everyone had disappeared apart from Adonis, Mildred and Betsy, oh wow thought Mildred this is my moment. Adonis reached for Mildred and she sank gasping happily into his arms, all very Mills and Boone. Their lips met ecstatically then up leapt Betsy and bit Adonis on the .........

Adonis! Adonis was back. George used all his strength to pull himself out of the vortex that was pulling on him then took off like a bat out of hell. The teapot was hovering in the air, the book was quivering in the air and Betsy, along with the cat, was just quivering. "YOU FOOL"!, Adonis said. That wasn't antihistamine spray that was antighostamine spray!! "Don't you ever read labels?". Mildred leapt for the spray and started skooshing the room. 'This'll sort the ghosts from the witches', she thought.
She slowly looked around to see who/what was there/gone.
To her astonishment ...

Launched herself at the black cat, the cacophony was dreadful, cackling witches, sneezing ghost, squawking cat and barking dog, SILENCE boomed a loud voice, everything stopped and they all turned to look at ........

Mildred was also trying to call Brian at the same time re the telescope. Then, the room lit up with blue light! A blue beam was shining on the book! Slowly, it began to rise into the air. There appeared from the shadows a witch - cackling and reaching for the book. The witch was accompanied by a black cat. "I'm having none of that" thought Betsy so she ...

Somehow George had appeared again. This must mean that the witches who carried him off had brought him back and they were lurking in the shadows. Everything was in chaos; Betsy was biting the ghost's robe whilst sneezing, George was trying to reach the teapot which was emerging from the floor and Mildred was trying to spray antihistamine up Betsy's nose.

Keep going ladies, this is fabulous!

handed him an antighostamine and a box of tissues. "That's it for another year then" she confided to the ghost "the old ticker can't take all this excitement".

Appeared closely followed by the rest of a body, oh hells bells gasped Mildred it's the ghost of Halloween past, the figure swayed towards her menacingly, the book, the book it hissed I must see the book. Betsy bravely made a run at the ghost and bit at the robe it was wearing, atishoo atishoo, the ghost was allergic to dogs, Mildred laughed nervously and ........

Made teapot was slowly rising from the floor. That's weird thought Mildred but as George reached out to lift it clear (as he was partial to a cup of English Breakfast and with all the racing about had somehow missed having anything), he was sucked headfirst into...

.... to call Prof. Brian Cox. He may be able to use the telescope to read the rest of the faint writing that Betsy's pointing to in the book! Mildred was distracted as she was hungry and was thinking about how she could make a cheese toastie when suddenly, the chill in the air returned. Through a hole in the floor a hand...

'Look at the Hubble,' It continued. 'Of course,' gasped Mildred, who had gained an OU degree in astrophysics in her youth. 'That's it!. The expansion of the universe is freezing time! How can it be stopped? The only way is .... '

George's muscular arms but all she caught hold of was the edge of the witches cloak as they flew off taking George with them.
Mildred managed to make her way back to the house and the book, Betsy was pawing at one of the pages, the writing was quite faint but the page Betsy was interested in contained a spell to remove the curse of the clocks, hubble bubble read Mildred ......

Move towards the book but suddenly the room started to spin she reached out to grab..

... she fought hard to climb back up to the top of the tower as she wanted to know what secret was lurking there.
She asked George to make her a latte while she examined the clock face. Oddly, a picture of the old book from the junk shop was lying there. 'The book' she thought! Of course! The answer lies in the book about clocks and magical powers. "Quick George", she said as she slurped her latte. We need to get back together the house. She started to ...
