Soop, what a wonderful photo of Torben!! Made my day!

soop Sat 29-Oct-16 11:20:53

Hello my lovelies. I understand that there has been something nasty going on since I was last logged on. I'm truly shocked to read the vile and vicious remarks hurled in the direction of DaphneB. The individual who enjoyed belittling another, (whilst hiding behind an assumed identity) is to be pitied. I admire DaphneB's composure.

Wobbly Your daughter has reached "the end of her tether". I've been there. I know the feeling very well. Your support will enable her to reassess her priorities. I wish her well.

I'm having to dash away for a wee while. I shall return this afternoon. I would just like to have a Granny-brag, please. Our 17 year old grandson has a well deserved commendation. Here it be...

DaphneBroon Sat 29-Oct-16 11:27:47

That is so nice soop a worthy source of Granny pride!! smile

dustyangel Sat 29-Oct-16 11:27:55

Wow soop, well done to Ethan. I bet you are bursting with well deserved Granny pride. smile

Charleygirl Sat 29-Oct-16 12:28:53

I agree, Ethan has done so well. Your head will have problems fitting through doorways soop it has given you so much pride to be his gran.

I am not sure if Torben will thank you in 10 or so years time when you show the photos that you have shown us. He is such a handsome young man.

soop Sat 29-Oct-16 12:37:41

You lot help to make my day even more special. Ethan is dyslexic and has had extra tuition throughout his life from his parents. He has an amazing mind. Whenever we're with him, I'm astonished that he carries some much historical data in his head. He is also a gentle and charming young man. End of brag.hmm wink

DaphneBroon Sat 29-Oct-16 12:52:57

You are more than entitled to be proud Soop if Ethan has had an extra mountain to climb. I do think as grandparents we appreciate these qualities more than where we were young parents ourselves and are more aware of what a child has achieved. ???

soop Sat 29-Oct-16 12:57:04

NanaandGrampy Your granddaughter has inherited many of your traits. Lucky girl. Both you and your husband deserve a special hug. sunshine

Ann Has the spring been slowly uncoiling? I understand how you must have felt once the visitors departed. We have a dear friend who needs the companionship of visitors. She also runs a delightful guesthouse. I could not change places her...and remain sane.

soop Sat 29-Oct-16 12:58:12

Thank you, DaphneB. smile

Swanny Sat 29-Oct-16 13:46:00

wobbly I'm proud of your daughter for walking out of an impossible situation. Her health and sanity are far more important than her salary - without the former she wouldn't be able to earn the latter. My son was in the same situation - his workload was ridiculous. He knew he had to leave but felt he had to bring in the money. Thankfully he applied for - and got - redundancy in the company's latest reshuffle. A few weeks later he is now far more placid, his blood pressure has come right down and he is ready to start his new job. flowers and sunshine for your daughter

soop Sat 29-Oct-16 14:18:53

Very wise and welcome comments, Swanny

Wobblybits Sat 29-Oct-16 14:37:32

I was quite surprised that my DD flounced out, I don't know where she gets that from hmm

Lona Sat 29-Oct-16 14:43:18

soop That's a really lovely commendation for Ethan, no wonder you are so proud of him. It's very heartwarming isn't it when our grandchildren do well in something? NandG, your gd sounds a delightful girl too thlsmile
Wobbly I hope your daughter is beginning to feel some relief now after ridding herself of that burden, and I'm sure that she will find (hopefully) something much better and less stressful.
Ann60 wine If you feel like a wet rag today you are entitled, so have another wine and some ?

Wobblybits Sat 29-Oct-16 14:52:05

I'm not sure she knows how things will pan out yet. They told her to work from home Tuesday (she doesn't work Mondays)and they will discuss the situation with her on Wednesday. They wanted to talk to her yesterday, but she refused as she did not want to say what she was feeling in haste. She did say she would take redundancy, but they said they did not want to lose her. The issue came to a head because she was being lined up to tale the fall for a major project that was failing, yet she had not worked on it !.

soop Sat 29-Oct-16 16:07:22

Lona Ethan is extremely reserved. Unlike his big brother, Will. He "came out" about a year ago. All the family admired him for doing so.

Wobblyb I'm not surprised that your daughter has removed herself and her services from what appears to be a very iffy situation. She deserves so much better.

Charleygirl Sat 29-Oct-16 16:31:28

Wobbly that is so sensible giving herself extra time to think things through rather than being very hasty and regretting it afterwards.

If your daughter agrees to any suggestions- they should be in writing or there may be a repeat performance in 6 months time.

Wobblybits Sat 29-Oct-16 16:49:25

He is a very senior HR adviser, so is very versed in this sort of situation, but normally the other way about. I hope if she stays, she will get what she wants in writing, I know she doesn't trust her immediate boss farther than she can throw her. I think the problem is that she has proved herself capable of defusing some difficult union negotiations and legal situations where others have screwed up big time, she seems to be getting more and more put upon her to the stage where she is incompetent.

Wobblybits Sat 29-Oct-16 16:55:59

She, not he

soop Sat 29-Oct-16 17:43:56

Another day of fun on the internet is beginning to draw to a close. I always log off at about this time. After a stroll in the morning, I shall return for catch-up news.

Wishing every Granspal a peaceful and pleasant evening. I'm looking forward to the Saturday evening G&T. Slainte! moon

cornergran Sat 29-Oct-16 17:45:50

Thinking time is invaluable wobbly, including after any concrete offer. Good not to say yes or no as an instant reaction. Sometimes it's hard to be sensible for ourselves, though! Sounds as if your daughter is invaluable, I doubt 'management' will actually want her to go.

Ethan has done so well, soop, pride is essential!

daphne, pleased to see the other thread has calmed down, if now seeming to have wandered from the point. I have struggled, and continue to struggle, with those who are unpleasant just because they can be. More wine for you and ann if you need it. Can't send cake as I've been out all day

Currently sitting in a hospital waiting for visiting to start. Very strict on timing sadly. It's a three hour round trip for us so we are trying to make a day of our visits, at least weekly but sometimes more frequently. So today we've done some shopping and had a pleasant late lunch to see us through until we get home about 9.30. Tiring but we get an extra hour tonight and plan a lazy day tomorrow. Hoping our friend is stronger as she has been very poorly indeed after an accident. Discharge will be a challenge but cross that bridge when we all get to it. She's tough and sensible so every chance of all being well.

DaphneBroon Sat 29-Oct-16 17:51:18

You are a good friend cornergran to make that long journey to your friend's hospital bedside. There are not many like you flowers
They say to have good friends you must BE a good friend - you must have some very good friends indeed.

Crafting Sat 29-Oct-16 22:23:32

Flying visit from me (busy on my broomstick at the moment thlwink. Hope you are ok DaphneB not read all the thread but got the gist.

wobbly hope things work out for your DD. People can have too much pressure and stress put on them these days. Good for her for taking action.

Congratulations to Ethan Soop. One of my DGC is dyslexic and I know how much more wortk they have to put in to achieve anything.

Charleygirl Sat 29-Oct-16 22:25:06

I agree, that is a marathon trip- a very long day indeed cornergran but good to try to make an outing of it.You will definitely appreciate the extra hour tonight.

DaphneBroon Sat 29-Oct-16 22:29:12

This "extra hour", by the time I have changed the clock in the kitchen, the clock radio, the boiler clock, the clock/timer on the cooker, the clock on the microwave -and don't even suggest the burglar alarm because I have NO idea how to do that - then the car clock tomorrow, the hour is just about up.
(Do the iPad's and the computer do it themselves BtW ? )
????????????????????????

Wobblybits Sat 29-Oct-16 22:31:17

Yes Ipad and computer will sort themselves out, as should the car.
