Soop's kindly kitcheners and pampered pets...
(1001 Posts)Here we are again...
happy as can be
all good friends and jolly good company.
Never mind the weather,
never mind the rain,
as long as we're together...Woops she goes again.
A big, warm welcome and please continue to enjoy the companionship.
and
until I return tomorrow. x
We are in out room. MrsP says her phone is ringing, it makes a quacking sound. She wasn't impressed to find a live duck in our room.
ann
wish they were real ones x
soop I second that
also from me again.
Ann I do not know what to stay- what a pity I do not live closer- he would listen to me, not for long though!
I need to wash my mouth out with soap. I tried to find out what time the children were doing the rounds later and I told them that I was going out and they decided it was a Halloween party! I will not be answering the door methinks. I know I am a miserable old bag.
annsixty I would love to be able to hug you. You are a very special lady.
Thank you all for your kind words and advice. My H would not go to a day centre and so far will not hear of anyone coming in , he just does not see the need as he is fine in his head. he knows he cannot remember anything for two minutes but he just has a bad memory and I should understand that and make allowances eg repeat myself over and over again!!.
I do get out a couple of times a week for about an hour and a half but sadly I come home to the problem again, that is the depressing thing, it is not going to go away or improve.
I just haven't got the time left at 79 if you can understand what I mean. but of course this also means that we had many years without this dreadful condition so I must be very thankful for that. When dementia strikes early or even in folks 60's there are so many lost years. I do look back and think we were lucky that he was in his early 70's when the first signs appeared.I can still see my glass half full and I do thank you all for your support which helps enormously.
Crafting Your message to Ann is lovely.

Sorry iPadhas taken over my text. I meant have a few hours to yourself.
ann60 what you describe reminds me exactly of my brother's behaviour. It used to drive my dear SIL up the wall that he would follow her around all the time. please do as others have suggested. Get some help. Someone who can sit with your DH while you go out and have a few have ups to yourself. Perhaps a day centre (my brother would never go but managed to get on ok with the career who sat with him).
I can't profess to be anything like an expert on dementia but seeing what my brother has been like I can say that in his case things went in phases e.g for months unable to remember wife's name, now seems to know it well. Wouldn't go out for a walk but now loves going out. So things can change. I would add that my brother now is very bad and in a care home BUT he and my SIL have some wonderful times together and cuddle and hug. He has no idea who I am or of what is going on at all.
I wish you all the best. Coping in this stage is really hard
Jalima Music can conjure up some seemingly long lost memories. Sometimes, during a visit to the care home, I can encourage a few of the ladies to join me in song. We don't always sing the right words, in the right order, to the right tune...but, hey, who cares! Reminiscent of one of my favourite comedy sketches between Eric Morecombe and "Andrew Preview".
Dear NonnaW...I'm sending good vibes to accompany you throughout the procedure. Please keep us updated. Us lot will be happy to hear that you are back in your home and relaxing.
DaphneB May we borrow Pippa, please? I have to agree with you, children are getting smarter at a very early age. It's natural progression in an age of ever changing technology. Do you remember when you had to use a phone box to make a call with two, big, old pennies?
Ann I'm very concerned for you. All the messages of support from us lot cannot bring about the changes that you need URGENTLY. Please, do take the advice of kitty and corner because they have first hand experience of such matters. You've coped remarkably well for such a long time. Before you become ill as a result of the stress you need to take the next step. Please, please ask for help.
Wobblybits
NannaandGrampy I can well imagine your granddaughter's delight when she returned to a newly decorated bedroom.
We shall not be bothered by Trickers and Treaters. All the children in the village have a party in the village hall. We are located some three miles away from the mayhem.
Gaga Hampshire is a beautiful county. I have fond memories of Chichester. The cathedral is wonderful.
Charleyg Pet owners in the village have a difficult time when the firework season kicks off. One friend of ours has to increase the volume of the television (and huddle up close to her Labrador) in order to muffle the bangs that reduce her dog to a quivering nervous wreck.
Today is Melbourne Cup Day [well, night for us] so it's my annual assignation with Radio Sport 927 and Peter the Possum Man. At least I don't have to crawl into work on Tuesday morning half asleep and saying 'G'day' to everyone now I'm retired. We would have been there this year but, two years ago when the S.O. wanted to start making arrangements I said we couldn't leave the dog for that amount of time [no point going to Australia for a week!].
Cream?
Do you whip it first?
I must try these, they sound as if they have no calories anyway
Thank you for the recipe DB. Lemon juice and lemonade? I would never have thought of that.
My DA always used to use cream of tartar, said she couldn't make scones without it.
I was shocked to read that Mary Berry said she leaves her BBC makeup on overnight because 'it last the next day as well'!
www.mumsnet.com/video/three-ingredient-scones-recipe
I think this was the easy peasy idiot proof recpie I used. I would recommend adding a wee pinch of salt and good quality lemonade e.g. with real lemon juice in it.
Unleash your inner Mary Berry!
ann please, please seek help. You, like me are marginally over 30 now and daily tasks become more difficult. Ten times worse if you do not get a minute to yourself to relax and reflect. Your DH would be mortified if he had half an idea of the torture he is putting you through if he was well so please seek assistance.
Tara would give up her bed (reluctantly) if you ever needed a good rest and recuperation.
ps Daphne I have never been much good at making scones, I should be ashamed of myself having lived in Devon for many years.
I could just eat a cheese scone for lunch now ....
annsixty I can't offer any suggestions really, but it does sound as if you need some more help; you are coping so well but having your DH follow you round from room to room must be so frustrating, and it's understandable if you feel like that.
I just posted on another thread about an elderly relative (in her 90s) who has now had to go into a care home and the only thing she can remember is music and the old songs she used to sing.
I'm glad you could get out this morning - and enjoyed a walk as well. You've done remarkably well over the 12 weeks, can't believe it.
I will not moan, although being taken around in a wheelchair yesterday gave me a taste of what life is like for a lot of people. Most people were very kind and got out of the way (we should have put L plates on!).
Gagagran Winchester is on my list of cathedrals I would like to visit - perhaps I won't go out of my way now.
.
The trees everywhere seem to be especially glorious this year don't they!
I wasn't sure what a sigmoidoscopy is, so googled it - I hope it's not too unpleasant Nonna and soon over and done with.
DH didn'tmanage to find any Minion Haribos - or indeed anything much - so we have a pack of mixed packets of refreshers etc to dole out just in case. I can resist those thank goodness.
Hope the fireworks aren't too loud where you live (they will probably go on now most nights until NYE round here).
"No wonder" - lazy typing
Great progress ann60 nomwonder younare feeling good this morning!
Fingers crossed it will see you through the rest of the day
Nonna problems are problems, just because others have them doesn't make yours any less troubling.
I have been for a DEXA scan this morning, my bones weren't "up to scratch" according to the surgeon who did my knee. My son dropped me off at 9;40 for an apt at 9;55. I was walking out, done and dusted by 10;10. I walked to Sainsbury's about 10mins walk, bought goodies for the trick or treaters, then caught a bus and walked home through the park. I was so happy to be able to do it after months of not and being out lifted my spirits no end.
Oh, Nonna, of course bring your understandable anxiety here. May be too late for you to see this but stay positive, it will be fine, the staff will help you with your anxiety and just think, this time tomorrow it will be over.
Thanks Daphne, much appreciated, and definitely no offence taken
and {hugs} NonnaW - and I hope you will take this the right way when I say I hope this problem will soon be behind you <ducks!>
