It is a beautiful evening. The sky is awash with colour. I must take a photo or two. I shall share with you tomorrow.

Have just this minute returned from an appointment with one of several locom GP's at the local surgery.

She found a large file of notes and what's more, she located the letter written to the GP in Cornwall after the surgery in the private hospital. I was admitted on the 17th Feb 2003 had the op on the 18th and was discharged on the 28th...a much longer stay than I recalled. Yes...the surgeon was Miss B (who is on leave from Truro hospital until Wed.) After all this time, I now I have an answer. So, thank you one and all for putting up with my bleetings. I am grateful that you allowed me to vent my frustration in our kitchen. I feel that I've been selfish and have taken up far too much of your time. Thank you all.

kitty you do not protect your sofa from your little minx? A lovely stretch with claws out and that sofa would not be fit to look at. I do not trust Tara so the chairs she fancies are covered.

It sounds as if the Kitcheners are doing a fantastic job of sorting out the missing notes problem. I'm sure it will all be sorted eventually but it is so very stressful meanwhile. to cheer you.

Our lovely "summer quarters" are no more. It was a misty moisty morning yesterday but the builders still arrived at the crack of dawn bright and early to start demolishing it. Small (and not so small) boys would have been in their element as diggers and dumpers made short work of it. DH kept rushing out to take another photograph. One small snag as they accidentally cut off the electricity and couldn't get the electrician here till after lunch but for some weird reason I found that two sockets were working so we could at least make a hot drink, no Internet though.
It rained all last night and was still raining when they arrived this morning. I'd not slept well but abandoned the idea of a lie in when a heavy duty drill started at five past eight. They had to get some enormous rocks out before being able to sort out the levels. I think i understand what that means but only vaguely. I'll try to post a couple of photos in a minute.

Yes, I was replying to cornergran's post, i did mean demise because I had it in my head, wrongly, that notes were kept for 7 years instead of 10.

The sooner we get it sorted for soop the better, I hate to see her distressed over this when she should not be the one hunting for her own notes.

Charley, did you mean to say, 'after our discharge'? I think soop is well and truly alive and kicking.

Not last night charley! Right royal pain in the whatsit but often how it is. The really funny thing is that I used to teach people sleep and pain management . Just goes to show, what did I know .

I cannot remember if I got up during the night to go to the loo or not because I slept so well.

I do hope that soop will feel marginally better having read these posts. I knew that notes in some form were kept after our demise but I did not know how long. I think if presented with facts like that it shows that some research has been done and they cannot ignore soop. You are not on your own soop.

Soop no matter where you had your op, private hospital or NHS, there should be a record in your notes at your GP surgery. Considering it was quite a while ago, there would probably be a written letter which should have been filed in your Lloyd George notes. As previously mentioned, you are entitled to look at your notes but may need to put your request in writing. You could try explaining the situation to your GP's secretary and ask her if she would look in your notes for you. Either way, whether you find it yourself or she does, you should be able to obtain a copy of the letter/s, discharge summary etc which the consultant would have written to your then GP following your discharge from hospital. All operations, outpatient appointments etc whether private or NHS should be recorded in your notes in your GP's surgery.

I've found a retention of records document on the BMA web site soop. Really sorry but I can't work out how to copy a link with the iPad. It is up to date. Says GP records (which will include discharge from hospital letters) must be kept until 10 years after the death of a patient. Hospital records for 8 years after completion of treatment, so it seems it could be that hospital records are unavailable

There is a patients association leaflet on their web site which explains which records patients are able to access, it includes a formal request template if your surgery needs one. I'm hoping rules in Scotland are the same as England.

The surgeries I worked in all had the old style written notes stashed away somewhere. Many of the older GPS seemed very attached to them, but a summary should have been transferred onto the computer, not necessarily accurately sadly. Either way your surgery should be able to help. Hope so. Need a fingers crossed icon

Glad you and MacS had a good day, soop. I do hope you manage to get your hospital records sorted - 2003 isn't that long ago. And, I agree with swanny, it's your kitchen so you, especially, are entitled to let off steam.

As far as I know old records are microfiched so these should still be available. Somewhere....
As someone suggested, the GP will have made a referral to the private hospital so that should be somewhere, as well as the operation details at the hospital. The prospect of your "taking it further" could prompt them to try a bit harder.

Forgot to add soop that you do such a good job in keeping the kitchen door open for everyone, I would worry if you didn't feel able to let off steam here yourself. Have a good evening and for you both.
