Is anyone able to recommend a good TV drama series from the past please?

Definitely the first Poldark - so much better than the new one. I was going to recommend I Claudius, but that definitely comes under the Gory heading. I think all of the above really, we seem to have covered most of the good stuff between us.

The first Poldark series with Angharad Rees.

A Family at War was very good, set in Liverpool in WW2.

It depends how far back you want to go and what sort of thing you like. I think if you go too far back you might find some of the stuff a bit dated.

I was pleased to see someone mentioned the American series Damages which I absolutely loved - and nobody else I know has even heard of it. It was quite challenging to follow but extremely gripping. Also American - The Good Wife.

I was just trying to remember the name of the Sunday night series about a family firm involving boats, and Katy has just helped me out, Howard's Way! I used to love All Creatures Great and Small as well.

"Mash", "Frasier", "I Claudius", "Cadfael". But my favourite was "ER".

The World at War was brilliant.

Sorry, just having a daft moment remembering a bit on The Two Ronnie's, "next week we will be featuring the memoirs of a disillusioned vet, entitled "All Creatures Grunt and Smell"

But back to the topic, so glad to find that there are other Cracker fans too!

How about 'Poirot'? I have the entire box set and it never dates! Also love 'Morse'.

It entirely depends on personal taste, but I remember enjoying Cold Feet from 15 or so years ago, This Life a series from the I think the '90s about aspiring 20/30 somethings sharing a flat, Bleak House, The first Damages and the first Broadchurch, subsequent ones not so good imo, Brideshead Revisited, Life Begins, Cracker. I've started watching an American legal drama, The Good Wife which I'm enjoying, also The Affair now on the 2nd series which has just been released here. Probably loads more I've forgotten about.

Thanks Charley, I did too and that's why I asked the question. Some things sound really complicated in the blurb but much more feasible when explained in normal speak!

Alina, Seconded. I'd like to know more about this box. Do you just plug it in and watch all the above programmers and movies? Or do you pay for each one you watch?

I enjoyed Larkrise to Candleford, when it began and was about the original book. After that it seemed pointless when it had nothing really to do with the book,Just made up stories

Maelstrom - I can only vaguely remember it but I do know for sure that it absolutely had me and my DD gripped from beginning to end. It's a thriller, first appeared on TV in 1985. Six part series.
