Hot Tub Birthday Party!!! - for a group of 8/9 year old boys!

I have a large hot tub in my garden and my GSs are now 4, 9 & 10 and they love it. They all have learnt to swim in it (obviously only a few strokes), but it has helped with their water confidence.

As long as “The Party” is closely monitored, the temperature is not overly hot and the chemicals are correct I cannot see a problem.

A bit sexist there Blinko ?. I think both girls and boys can be problems at times. My mum had 2 of each and said give her boys any day, ?

Ridiculous idea and an awful load of responsibility on the hosts shoulders it was bad enough keeping an eye on them just running around
Give them a football and a field or big garden

What's outlandish about it? They happen all the time here and are great fun.

Maybe NZ children are more spa-savvy than those in the UK?

Our local swimming pool even has a hot pool for the under 10's as well as 2 for adults - it's usually full of toddlers and Mums having fun.

Anyone who owns a hot tub/spa has chemicals to kill bacteria - just as they do in swimming pools and even drinking water.
Levels are usually monitored by computer.

I suspect some of the crabbed comments on here are hiding envy methinks they protest too much.

There's nothing better than a soak in a spa at night, the firmament above you, a glass of wine in hand and good company at your side. Bliss.

Nellie I don't know about that, maybe for the younger ones. I have tried in my time as a mum to mix Christmas up a bit, not get standard presents. So last year, as it was DS's last at home, I bought all the traditional games, Frustration, Buckaroo, Battleships, the wire electronic one, Jenga etc. He wasn't impressed one bit and didn't play any at all over the festive season, I was so upset really. Miserable sod. He wanted to play chess, I wanted to have some fun.

So I am now left with all these lovely games but no one to play them with. I will have to pay people to come and play with me.

Boys' parties are a doddle. March them down to the nearest football field, let them loose for an hour, march them back, feed them, send them home. Sorted.

I cant think of anything worse ...boys need to be flying around, a swimming party maybe (if not too many and good supervision especially with inflatables)a football party, a playcentre or ball park, just a running around party with a theme but hot tub that sounds much more of a girly thing and I m not being sexist at all boys and girls like different things and so they should I can imagine a group of girls chatting away in a hot tub but boys nah
Personally i think these parties have got completely out of control with each trying to outdo the last.

Rubylady I can't help thinking that proper party games might be seen as a real novelty these days when everything is so technological.

I think it's totally inappropriate for a nine year old's Birthday party. What is wrong with pinning the tail on the donkey? No, maybe not going back that far but really? Doing grown up stuff at nine? And the dangers are not even to think about. I did see a programme about someone getting their hair stuck in the vent at the bottom. I don't know much about them as I have never been in a hot tub. I have been in a Jacuzzi at the gym but refused to go back when I heard on the grapevine that a couple had apparently been caught having sex in it! No thank you!

I suspect he may not find it as exciting as he thinks Katykrunch

We spent a week at Forest Holidays recently with our two eldest grandchildren ( 9 and 7) and they went in the hot tub on the deck several times a day( and in the evening). Not for huge lengths of time and the temperature wasn't as hot as I might have liked but more suitable for them.

They had a whale of a time !!

I'm not sure I'd throw a party in one and I'm almost positive a group of 8/9 year old boys would be a handful in one hot tub.

Our local pool does pool parties complete with assorted inflatables and lifeguards... that would be my preference for a water based party.

My daughter caught a nasty skin infection from one of those pools! She's stayed well away from them ever since.

Totally unsuitable I would have thought. They will probably get over-excited, start messing about and then there is a very real danger of an accident. If they get through the first half hour or so unscathed, I suspect they will then all be bored. I agree with the hygiene comments too.

There was an outbreak of legionnaires disease from a hot tub being demonstrated in a store in Stoke on Trent. That bug was in the steam no one was in the pool.

shortlegs Just what I was thinking. I can imagine all those boys enjoying peeing in. Or over the side of it.

Interesting link Sallie. No children under four should use them, and the big one - NEVER put your head under the water as you could loose consciousness! Try telling a boy not to put his head in if he's with his mates!

Would you get in someone else's bath water? Bacteria levels would scare me.
