The last one was my mother's favourite and we had it played as the coffin was carried in for her funeral. The pallbearers started swaying in time with the beat and so did the coffin. I was sure it was going to fall

I like a lot of the songs already mentioned, particularly When I was your man and Softly.

Other favourites are: Wichita Lineman (Glen Campbell), Bedshaped (Keane - even though I'm not quite sure what the lyrics mean), Fast Car (Tracey Chapman), The Water Sustains Me (Johnny Flynn & Laura Marling), Beautiful Boy (John Lennon), Blackbird (Paul McCartney), Cat's in the Cradle (Harry Chapin)

I never used to be so emotional, but I find as I get older that I weep much more easily than in the past. There are many songs that can bring a tear to my eye, but usually when I'm caught unawares - or at certain times of the year that mark anniversaries etc. And there are some songs now that I no longer choose to listen to because they always reduce me to a wreck. Dance with my father is one of those songs, but also there are quite a few songs that are associated with unhappy times in the past that trigger an emotional response in me.

'Song for Athene' by John Taverner It was played as Princess Diana's coffin was being carried out. Such a haunting and moving piece of music! Makes me weepy every time I hear it.

Also 'Finlandia' played at my father's funeral.

The way we where Barbra Streisand and fields of gold Eva cassidy..played at my daughters funeral....The way we where is nostalgic for the times when my husband and children and I where all together...

WB I was listening to Desert Island Discs on my way to the shops on Friday and the castaway had Stairway to Heaven as one of his choices. There was me singing away as I negotiated the roundabout. A great song.

Have just returned home from the 25th anniversary screening of Miss Saigon and yet again wept buckets at Bui Doi - The Dust of Life about the children 'left behind' by the American GIs.
All the more poignant as I clearly remember news reports from the 70's and the many people who wanted to adopt from Vietnam just as we were going through the adoption process for my own girls.

My dad has asked for "Roll me up and smoke me when I die" by Willie Nelson to be played at his funeral Wobblybits he's always had a strange sense of humour .

I want Stairway to Heaven by Led Zepplin at my funeral.

Seasons in the Sun, sung by Terry Jacks. Just thinking about it sets me off, worse than ever now that my dad is terminally ill. Strangely, I thought of it as a feel good song when it was first a hit!
The Living Years reduces me to tears too.
