So Scotland gets a second referendum what's your thoughts on that one

Jane10 Thu 13-Oct-16 13:16:02

Noooooooo. Not surprised though. Its all SNP can think of doing. Shame they haven't focused more on doing their actual job. Lot of discontented people up here!
Its only a proposed bill. It may not get through the Scottish Parliament and anyway its up to Westminster to say whether or not another one can be held.

Consultation starts. That doesn't mean it will happen.

Scotland will do what they have to do. Just hope Britain don't get another one on Europe, ad infininitum, until they get the other result.

dramatictessa Thu 13-Oct-16 13:18:44

If they can have another one, there can be another EU one. Makes a mockery of all that 'We must abide by the will of the people' and 'That's democracy, just get on with it' rhetoric of the EU referendum result. This just proves that it's whoever has power who decides what democracy actually is. David Cameron's legacy is the gift that keeps on giving!

I never understood why it wasn't required for both of these referenda to insist on at least 60% in favour. First over 50% never felt convincing.

It was explained on TDP today that many people who voted against independence did so because they wanted to remain in the EU; that is now null and void so they have a right to vote again. Have to agree with them (although I was totally opposed to them leaving before).

Ana Thu 13-Oct-16 14:04:49

Well, it's not a done deal that they'd be allowed to join the EU in their own right. Is that what they want?

Tegan Thu 13-Oct-16 14:11:46

That isn't the point.

Ana Thu 13-Oct-16 14:13:50

It might be for some people.

Jane10 Thu 13-Oct-16 14:22:21

Our GDP is worse than Greece. We don't meet the entry criteria for membership. We do far more business with the UK than we do with Europe. Independence would be arrant stupidity!

HildaW Thu 13-Oct-16 15:16:13

Please Scotland.....do not leave us......we are in a big enough fix with this stupid Brexit! We need to stand together!!

rosesarered Thu 13-Oct-16 15:18:36

Agreed Jane it certainly would be.The SNP has had independence at the heart of it
From day one, and would do anything to get it.They would rather be ruled by Europe than be part of the UK.

Jane10 Thu 13-Oct-16 15:38:57

If they got it we'd have to be economic migrants to England! Note 'they' not we. SNP is not Scotland!

rosesarered Thu 13-Oct-16 15:41:06

No, it isn't thank goodness.More people need to realise this in England.

harrigran Thu 13-Oct-16 15:44:30

If at first you don't succeed keep going until you get the result you want, smart thinking not.

SueDonim Thu 13-Oct-16 16:58:45

Neverendum Referendum. I really don't want to go through it all again. I'm even considering not voting, should it come to Indyref2, which would have my grandfather turning in his grave!
