I'm infuriated by the media and politicians saying "Ay" for the indefinite article which was pronounced "Uh" for the first 69 years of my life.
As in, "Ay butcher, ay baker and ay candlestick maker"

Greenwich: I was brought up to call it Grinidge. It later became Gren-itch. It now seems to have reverted to Grinidge.

I'm tired of hearing about people's journeys, as in life stories or experiences. And for some reason anyone "going with their gut" winds me up, whereas I'm fine with "gut instinct".

But I like some new expressions. "Entitled" hits the nail on the head, and I use 24/7 quite a lot

Mumsnetters use the expression (special little) snowflake to describe posters (often entitled ones!) who are a bit precious and get offended at the slightest thing. I like that.

A little bit different but have you also noticed pronunciation, this morning on the radio I heard Valdimir Putin described as Vladeeema Putin
When did are-monds become al monds, when did Nes uls become nes lays (Nestles) Porsh (Porsche ) become porsher

'entitled' gets up my nose. Also 'reaching out' which a lot of people seem to do these days, at least in media reports, instead of contacting.

Shakespeare made up lots of words and expressions, tho, and he's now seen as a literary genius so who knows how the future will regard chillax etc.

I see 24/7 used on a dementia help forum, in the context of 'round the clock' care, i.e. usually in a care home. In some cases I think it can be useful.

Quite a few new usages irritate me (outside OF is just one) but I don't mind 'entitled'. It has come to mean a certain attitude that gets right up many people's noses. It doesn't mean quite the same as 'selfish'.

Ditto 'train station'. 'Station' in a travel context always used to mean trains whether you added 'railway' or not. if you meant bus station you would say that.

Crafting, thank you for 'wether'! As is often the way, I'm sure I'll come across it again very soon.

I hate when someone says " Almost Unique", or " very Unique" etc.
Unique is just that...UNIQUE...one of a kind. I suppose something could be almost unique if there were two of them and you were about to smash one to bits . Other than that NO!

Yes Linscoe... I agree really, and try getting on a coach and asking for a return ticket to Oxbridge.

I only ask, as have never heard anybody say it in RL.

I dislike some of the recent word blends e.g. 'chillaxing' a blend of chilling and relaxing and 'guesstimate' a blend of guess and estimate. Not sure why but Oxbridge has always slightly annoyed me too.

Really, Bella that's interesting.....would you describe them as normal folk?
