It looks a bit more civilised now DB. I didn't get involved but did lurk a bit. I hate to see people being hurt on GN. Some people realising that they had caused offense without meaning to.

rosesarered Thu 29-Sept-16 20:17:36

? always thought the Scots were up for a fight Daphne [verbal only, natch!]
sorry your DH is unwell again, what a shame when he has spent so much time going up and down to hospitals.Lucky that you are well ,to take care of things ( and make caterpillar soup.) ?

DaphneBroon Thu 29-Sept-16 20:08:54

Are you sure it is safe to come out jud??

Judthepud2 Thu 29-Sept-16 20:05:10

You might find if you peep out of the nice warm kitchen that the cold winds of GN battle have died down a bit. Some making up and apologies going on. ?‍❤️‍??‍❤️‍??

annsixty Thu 29-Sept-16 18:50:26

Thank you to those of you have said that medication has helped your osteoporosis. I don't feel so depressed about it now.

Tizliz Thu 29-Sept-16 18:26:02

nelliemoser can't you take linseed oil instead of cod liver oil?

Luckygirl Thu 29-Sept-16 18:25:56

Just sheltering here for a wee moment.

DaphneBroon Thu 29-Sept-16 18:04:51

I am NOT enjoying much of GN today and will be glad when things have died down a bit. I have no intention of continuing my observations on here either, you will be glad to know.
Feeling very fed up on DH's behalf too. He had a blood transfusion just 2 weeks ago and his Hb has dropped to even lower than it was on the 16th. He is feeling very rough, but most of all it is depressing for him to feel so poorly and not to have maintained the levels of 2 weeks ago.
Now that it really feels Autumnal I have spent a couple of hours making 2. huge pots of soup -a borscht and a carrot and coriander for the freezer. Very satisfying.
Hugs to any and all feeling poorly, stressed or fragile. It seems to me that it is alll very well being told to be adult and "move on" from cutting comments, but when these comments arrive in the privacy of your own home it is hard to grow a shell of self protection. We share many very private matters and cares close to our hearts on GN so when the people we may have confided in turn aggressive or acerbic, it can be very hurtful.

Nelliemoser Thu 29-Sept-16 17:59:40

My slope towards osteoporosis started with an enlarged parathyroid gland which was leaching calcium out of my bones. The GP did a blood test which showed high calcium in my blood.
As the surgeon said if you don't get that sorted quickly you will be peeing your bones down the toilet.

I went on Alendronic acid for about three years at the last DEXA scan my bones were back to more or less normal levels for my age.

I have started on cod liver oil capsules despite being a vegetarian. While all this was going on I was getting very low in vitamin D. The darker days are nearly upon us.

soop Thu 29-Sept-16 17:32:16

I've come to terms with the fact that today is Thursday. Therefore I shall be visiting the care home tomorrow. When I return, I shall pop in for catch up with you lovely lot. Until then, smile moon

soop Thu 29-Sept-16 15:05:54

mcem Welcome back. I haven't seen you around recently. smile

mcem Thu 29-Sept-16 14:42:41

ann I had a dexa scan 5 years ago after breaking my wrist and it showed that I had osteopenia which precedes osteoporosis. Since then I've taken a weekly tablet of risendronate sodium to strengthen the bones. Very soon now I'll reach the end of the course and have another dexa scan. All being well I'll come off the med's.
Good luck!

soop Thu 29-Sept-16 14:21:47

Thank you for the info' Nellie...we continue to learn new stuff on Gransnet.

Nelliemoser Thu 29-Sept-16 14:01:28

Soop a dexa scan is done to assess bone density and find out if there is osteoporosis.

soop Thu 29-Sept-16 13:39:34

ann DEXA scan? I've not heard mention of such before today.

soop Thu 29-Sept-16 13:38:25

ann That is good news. Well done.

NanaandGrampy Sinus pain is extremely nasty. Take things easy. I hope that the antibiotics kick in soon.

corner Do you have Fibromyalgia? If so, I can feel your pain. Get better soon as we enjoy your company.

wot Thu 29-Sept-16 13:11:31

So glad for you Ann! ?

annsixty Thu 29-Sept-16 13:09:08

Hope all you poorly ones soon feel better. I have been for a review of my knee and won't now be seen for a year. Hooray. I have however been booked in for a DEXA scan as my bones were found to be "spongy"!!

NanaandGrampy Thu 29-Sept-16 13:02:39

The trouble with 'tables * Corner* is , as you rightly point out , it doesn't take into account the individual. Its all about shoving you in a box to fit the table smile

Sorry to hear you're feeling so poorly . Hope it passes soon but take it as an opportunity to really do nothing winkwill cake help???

Yes * soop* apt was not only on time but over quickly. I've felt off colour for a few weeks and had a funny sort of cough but I sort of knew what it was , but she confirmed it...sinuses damn them... and has prescribed me some antibiotics to clear it up so I am sure I will feel fab soon.

Now I'm retired I regularly get the days mixed up so you're not alone soop.I have avoided the old flu jab in the last couple of years because for no apparent reason it makes me feel poorly enough to retire to bed for a few days but will try again this year anyway.

Yes, I was thinking of number too and sending a quite hug or two .

Well off to do some crafting, that always cheers me up !!

cornergran Thu 29-Sept-16 12:56:41

Like the sound of your rainbow soop but not the strong wind. You aren't the only one to muddle the days, happens to us all smile.

I shall probably go quiet for a few days, feeling decidedly 'off', nothing serious, just the outcome of a fibro flare-up, so no energy, dizzy, horrid throat and generally 'off'. It will pass, to hasten it along I know I need to back away from a screen, odd isn't it, but it makes me feel worse. Now't so queer as folks as they say, and certainly nowt so queer as me!

Just thought, this obese thing is a minefield. We have a very tall son who is officially obese. Being a sensible type he asked his GP for advice which was don't lose weight, not only will you feel ill you will look ill. Haven't trusted those tables since!

Take care all, so hope the much more aggravating aggravations than mine resolve, even if just a little bit.

soop Thu 29-Sept-16 12:04:33

Yesterday I thought it was Thursday. I was preparing myself for the weekly visit to see our pal in the care home (today) so...as you can see, I'm out of kilter. It ain't Friday. I'm now in Thursday. Heeeeelp! I need a strong coffee and a virtual flapjack.

Hello again, rosesarered and Falconbird smile

DaphneB I also thought that I was looking at a beautiful out-of-doors bed. Rustic and inviting in equal measure. wink

Wobbly. There are mild-mannered folk on Gransnet and there are other types with whom I refuse to spend my time. Thank goodness we each have a choice. Feet up. I shall make a brew and entertain you with a rendition of Shake, Rattle and Roll. You'll like it...not a lot. grin

kittylester The wind is a blowing. The sea in crashing on the shore. There is a part double rainbow in the sky.

I'm thinking of our number and remain hopeful that a swift response to her husband's wish to return home, (complete with a suitable care package) is nearing a resolution.

NanaandGrampy I trust that your doc's appointment has been dealt with. MacSporran and I have flu jabs/jags to look forward to. It's usually an excuse for a wee gathering in the village hall and a blether together with a brew and biscuit.

Wobblybits Thu 29-Sept-16 11:00:25

In our family there is a se saw effect. As we were both obese children and bullied for it, we were very careful never to let our children be overweight, and they still aren't. They however are not as strict with their own children, I hope they don't put on weight.

annodomini Thu 29-Sept-16 10:41:49

My rheumatologist told me I was obese and she was right. By the time I saw her again, I'd lost about a stone - then I put it on again. Now on low carbs.

Wobblybits Thu 29-Sept-16 10:34:24

The reality is that if your BMI is 30 or more you are classed as obese. When we have been to weight management courses our target was to become overweight.

Lona Thu 29-Sept-16 10:02:54

Wobbly You aren't anywhere near what I think of as obese, you look like a perfectly normal mature man to me smile
Most of us put on a bit of extra weight as we age, not all of us I know, and I think you look lovely and cuddly! Just like wot I am wink
