I've just this minute returned home from ironing duties. First and foremost , before I read a single message, I wish to say that I am thankful that wot hasn't resigned. She, like the rest of our visitors to the virtual kitchen, matter to me.
I have apologised to merlotgran for misunderstanding her remarks relating to the kitchen. I was wrong. I misinterpreted her remarks big time. Us lot (well some of us) are far too sensitive. Please draw a line under the latest bun fight.
We come together in a virtual meeting place because we are like-minded. Those who prefer the more confrontational forums do so because such forums suit them. There is no right or wrong. We have a choice...this is where I prefer to be.

My OH nicked the spare battery for the smoke detector and yesterday i wondered what had happened to the replacement I knew I had ordered. After scrabbling through some paperwork I remembered I had added it to another order to put the total up to the free postage amount. I found it in with the new bulbs and starters I had ordered for the workshop - just loose in the 7' box. Try to never pay postage?

OMG, I have taken the full compliment of painkillers etc along with my normal pills this morning, I am on another planet now, euphoric (there's a big word for me) want to love the World today, better go find Mrs P before it wears off and the miserable o'l bugger returns.

A man after my own heart! That is exactly what I would do but I know that I will be using a few so they will not be composting.

It's the Yorkshire in me, I would rather spend £1.80 for 10 and have the other 9 composting in a draw "just in case" because I thought 40p was a rip off.

£1.88 for 10 , so 40p for one is not unreasonable.

If it's for an unfolded A4 sheet you need a C4 envelope.

Thanks for that, I may have a look on ebay and see what they have to offer. My PO charges 40p for a very flimsy envelope. Luckily I do not need a jiffy bag because I can hand deliver so it does not have to be too robust.

CG, have you looked in your post office, ours has a rack of various envelopes and jiffy bags.
Otherwise, try eBay, usually cheap and arrive within a day or twp (just make sure it is a UK supplier, items from China etc, may take a couple of weeks, fine if you can wait -- I often order things direct from China with no problems)

It is very dark here and has obviously been raining during the night. I opened the French doors for Tara as she fancied going into the garden- her paw hung in mid air for a second or two, feeling the sharp wind, obviously too cold for her so she decided it may be different weather if she used her cat flap at the front.

I ordered her prescription cat food on line a couple of nights ago, getting an excellent discount. At the start of the week I was given 15% and the day I ordered, it was reduced to 10%, both were valid when I ordered- it does not take Einstein to work out which I chose!

I need A4 envelopes and cannot buy such in my local high street so I am having to drive a couple of miles to the nearest WH Smith as Staples decided, without consultation with myself to move about 5 miles away. So inconvenient.

I have looked on most other threads but could not find anything rude written about us lot. Maybe it is just as well because some days I run on a very short fuse.

I also had my flu jab today at my local pharmacy. No appointment needed, so much easier than making an appointment at my GP surgery, driving there, waiting for ages etc. Done and dusted. I am aware that I have had something injected into my right arm but so far okay.

I did not realise I was heating the great outdoors until I went to the front door to collect my door keys a few minutes ago and saw the cat flap wide open where the postman had shoved a thin parcel through it. It does fit through the letterbox but that must have been too much trouble and anyway he could stuff the other mail through as well. Tara must have had a job getting in because the cat flap was also almost blocked. She has retired to bed as usual and I will be joining her fairly soon to read my book I think.

Delighted to see that weird thread by Heavywater had been deleted late am. There are so many weirdos in the great outdoors.

We had swimming lessons at grammar school .The pool was unheated and we used to swim if the water was 55 degrees F. or above. Our games teacher never got in the water. She had the hairiest legs I have ever seen!
I never felt confident swimming out of my depth but forced myself to swim in the deep end when when I took the DCs swimming and they were far more confident than I

I still can`t swim.

I remember being taken to see the Queen crossing the Severn on the Aust ferry, before the first Severn Bridge was built. We used to play in the water which was pumped out of the Severn railway tunnel at Severn Beach. I was always nervous about going through the tunnel in a train seeing how leaky it was. Also have a lovely memory of the feeling of soft squidgy mud oozing up between my toes when we played on the mud flats - and we didn't have a bathroom. Must have chipped the dry mud off!

DB, Wot, the kitchen is here when we fall out elsewhere, a sanctuary to come back to, chill and patch up differences.

Heard back from the physio today, should have an appointment in about a week (hopefully they can co-ordinate Mrs P and I together. Been taking the stronger meds today and they are helping, so perhaps that plus physio may help for a while. Took mrs P for her first ever x-ray, she survived it !. We were out so early that the shops hadn't opened , so we had to have breakfast in Costa. Both had flu jabs later, busy day.

I feel very saddened by much of what has been said recently, not least about us "Kitcheners" and it will take a wee while to forget some of the comments.
In the meantime there are infinitely more important and life shattering events going on in the RL of the kitchen and I send to all who are going through hard times, especially number and Bellasnana
