I saw a Gorgous thick cotton crochet type winter pull on hat , perfect with the wraps I wear so bought it,

I did not expect to look like the female modelling it, long fair hair etc, but how come I look like Benny Hill ?

Greyduster Sat 24-Sept-16 12:21:31

Zorro I bought the fish at Morrisons before we went and stuck it in the bottom of my bag just for the photo. grin. Am I joking? I couldn't possibly comment!

Jalima Sat 24-Sept-16 12:20:40

Great link wilma!

Now, if I wear my scarf as demonstrated, will I look like the model in the video?

Oh, was that a no?

farmgran Sat 24-Sept-16 12:17:31

Pollyperkins, your H must be very witty grin
I bought a hat at the market and I thought I looked quite sophisticated in it until I got home and looked in the mirror! To think I'd walked about in public looking like that.

I borrowed my sister's beautiful long coat to wear to a wedding, she's about 2 inches taller than me, in the photo's I looked Grotbags from the Pink Windmill! smile

I used to work with an older lady, who wore a wig as a hat, hung it up on the coat hooks at work during the day and her hair seemed ok underneath it. She hit upon the idea when she decided that n hats styles suited her but she wanted to be warmer.

I look like a table lamp in hats............

DotMH1901 Sat 24-Sept-16 11:43:31

So glad to see other ladies saying that they don't suit hats. I despair of finding one that doesn't reduce my daughter and now grandkiddies to fits of laughter.

Jalima Sat 24-Sept-16 11:35:21

I do wear hats sometimes, for warmth in the winter or a sunhat when it's hot, but they don't suit me

The last time I wore a posh hat to a wedding someone told me I looked like the Queen Mother 'in that hat'. As I was 50ish and she was about 100 at the time i didn't think it was a compliment!

I like scarves but am not good with them, so will look at wilma's link.

Annie I am sure you can never look like Benny Hill, I'm sure you said you're tall and slim!!
Ps I have a beret, must examine myself from all angles before I venture out hmm
Or just get rid of the hall mirror.

Greyduster, you look great, dont let the bugger get you down. I have just worn a new hat this morning to go to the shop, i teamed it with my waterproof men's jacket and wellies i looked stunning, well i would have if i was playing a baglady ! bloody hat blew off and i had to chase it down the road, at least it gave the village a laugh

Swanny Sat 24-Sept-16 10:42:54

I love scarves too so am off to have a look at WilmaKnickerfit's link smile

Swanny Sat 24-Sept-16 10:41:38

I wear a saggy beret-style hat in winter as I get dreadful ear-ache when I'm out in the cold. I've seen some lovely hats and women looking great in them but they all look ridiculous on me. As long as my ears are warm I'm happy and just don't bother looking in the mirror! In the summer I wear a panama hat at times, to keep the sun off the back of my neck. My hair always looks as though I've been wearing a pudding bowl when I take my hat off, so once it's on it has to stay on till I'm home again grin

Katek Sat 24-Sept-16 10:38:07

Hoods.....most of my jackets have them so it's there if I need something warm. I love hats as well, my face shape really suits big hats but I end up looking like a small mushroom when seen full length. Being short I also tend to take people's eyes out with the brim.

mags1234 Sat 24-Sept-16 10:34:18

You know, I don't care! I wear woolly hats all winter, as I feel the cold badly, and have trouble with my ears, so it's a must for me. My dog loves them, he has eaten two ! I get mine at a Dobbies s garden centre for seven pounds, felt lined crochet things which have a brim, otherwise I'm like a pea on a boiler with a wee head and big body. My hat hair just gets spiked up after wards by my fingers., too bad if it's not a good look, it's warm.

WilmaKnickersfit Sat 24-Sept-16 10:19:37

I can do nice scarves now - followed some YouTube videos. This is still my favourite

25 ways to wear a scarf - in 4.5 minutes

Mesmerising.

Lindaloulabel Sat 24-Sept-16 10:15:09

I've decided I've come to the age that I don't care what others think about what I wear if I like a hat scarf etc if I want to wear it I will....??

Zorro21 Sat 24-Sept-16 10:06:22

Incidentally, those people who think they don't look elegant in long scarves - have you ever tried a snood - they're fantastic and so warm in Winter.

Zorro21 Sat 24-Sept-16 10:04:47

Greyduster - I think you look just the part - very "country, hunting, shooting, fishing set". That fish is a whopper too !!

annodomini Sat 24-Sept-16 09:53:44

Depends on the hat and the glasses. Mine have a very unobtrusive titanium rim which works with hats with a turned-up brim, I have a lovely purple 'wedding' hat that looked great even with glasses.

oznan Sat 24-Sept-16 09:51:14

The only hat I can wear is the baker boy style with a peak, anything else looks ridiculous, especially the close fitting beanie type.I do have long, curly hair but even though this peeks out to soften the edges, they just don't suit me.I love scarves and have lots which I wear in different ways-they can really add to an outfit.

Tudorrose Sat 24-Sept-16 09:20:46

I like hats but they do not go with glasses! Too "busy" looking. I wore contact lenses at both my children's weddings and wore lovely hats which looked fine. I am very happy with all the photos

Ellie590 Sat 24-Sept-16 09:19:07

I like to wear hats in the summer when I am walking the dogs as it gets so hot and bright. But imagine the humiliation, my hair is very short and fine and my head is small 56cm and I have to wear childrens sun hats. Good thing I am not the sensitive sort.confused

Wobblybits Sat 24-Sept-16 09:12:59

I have so many hats, trilby, bucket, tilley, baseball, beany, but my favorite is my black fedora. My next acquisition will probably be a deerstalker.

DanniRae Sat 24-Sept-16 08:38:12

I like the idea of fluffy earmuffs wot but at 68 I fear I am a little old for them?? I only wear a woolly hat if it's really cold and then I don't care what I look like. I do like myself in fascinators - but I'd look a bit daft wearing one to Sainsburys!

Lisalou Sat 24-Sept-16 08:29:22

Hats make me look like a mushroom, but I do wear a woolly thing in winter - comfort has always come first for me. As for scarves, my MIL can do the dashing thing, flinging any kind of scarf around her neck and it stays there in perfect harmony. I have two modes, falling off or strangling me!

Maggiemaybe Sat 24-Sept-16 07:09:27

Oh, I suit hats - the huge, flowery, feathery ones one could wear to a Downtown Abbey wedding. I reckon it's because I have a big head. Seeing as I've never had occasion to wear one, it's no great advantage.

Anything else looks like a pea on a drum.

WilmaKnickersfit Sat 24-Sept-16 02:01:35

Greyduster I know! I would never say anything like that to him! I would just tell him he looks ridiculous and to put the hat down. He has a Compo hat he wears in the garden when it's cold, but I wouldn't let him go out wearing it! grin
