Anybody else glad it's Autumn?

Hate it bring on Spring

I love Autumn it's my favourite time of year. Crispy mornings, sunny days, amazing colours

Aepgirl so pleased to hear someone else sleeps well in hot weather I sleep like a top and never feel overheated in the summer but now winypter is a different story

I don't mind you guys having your Autumn and winter but can we make it equal winter is sooooolong and summer soooooo short

Going for a walk in Petworth park tomorrow, bit early for the rutting season though, but it should be a lovely autumn day.

You mean you actually like watching rutting?

Autumn depresses me. All the trees and flowers are dying. Roll on Spring and new life ?

I drove home from the school run today and there were wisps of mist over the fields and now we are sitting with all the curtains drawn and the lights on - cosy!?

I love all seasons, each one has its pluses & minuses. Just washed last of my white cropped trousers so now time to time to change my wardrobe over. Love the crisp Autumn days & leaves turning (kicking through fallen leaves never ceases to be a pleasure) Clearing garden for winter.

Winter - love sunny, frosty days, making soups & casseroles & wrapping up warm. Also sleep better, nice cosy quilt to cuddle into, don't mind dark nights but do hate wet/windy weather. Love Christmas.

Look forward to Spring bulbs coming up especially snowdrops showing Spring is on its way. Spring with all the new growth in the garden & days lengthening.

Summer - love being out in shorts etc when weather's nice, garden looking lovely. Just pray weather's not too hot & dread hot, humid nights. All in all I just love (most of) our weather except rain/wind (need some but not too much)

Not really - the colours of Autumn can be nice and some days can be sunny and balmy but I hate the shorter days and the approach of winter. My favourite is probably mid to late Spring.

Legs55, I agree with you - all the seasons have their joys but the fact that we have changes of seasons is the real pleasure.

One of the first signs of autumn is the Crane Fly or Daddy Long Legs. I had one in my flat this week.

I don't mind a bright dry Autimn day but in general I'm not keen. Days are getting shorter and I like the warm.

Glorious glorious first day of autumn here- much colder than recently- but so bright and sunny, with colours just beginning to turn. Time for foraging wild mushrooms and nuts ...

Oh yes! First day of autumn! A few brief sunny periods here which instantly transform the garden, before the sun goes in and it is back to looking like a dreary overgrown jungle. Sigh.

Absolutely gorgeous here and really warm. I've just planted a large clump of Nerines that my sisIL gave me last week.

Apparently we're in for some more hot weather next week

Got a great, and sad excuse for not being able to work in the garden- I should be starting to cut the perrenial down now.

We discovered a very poorly pussy cat, Siamese sort of, 1 blue eye, 1 green- just before we went on hols. He has lost a front paw, probably due to farm machinery... and it was hanging- then fell. We've been feeding and watering him- in the open garden shed- and made him a comfortable bed. My neighbour took over whilst we were away- and he is getting much better- eg not starving anymore, but paw still looks very raw.

Not so nervous now- but still runs off when we go out to put his food in the shed- I talk to him to re-assure him- and he is getting more tame- but just do not want to spook him, and he hides in the border near the shed whilst waiting for me to retreat after feeding. If I sit on the stairs by kitchen, about 12 ft away- he will now come and feed.

I went to discuss him with the vet, and he says 'give him a chance- provide shelter, food and water- and see what happens'.

If his paw gets worse (snow will be a big problem- although we can make sure he is warm and dry and provide a litter tray) - then at least it will make it easier to catch him in one way cage (our neighbour has one for pine martens) and either put hin out of his misery- or take him to the vet to have the paw properly amputated a bit higher and stiched- and we will then keep him in - but our 23 year old Pudding won't be happy, so he will have to be kept in back of house.

Breaks my heart- but we are doing everything we can- and will at least provide a quick 'send off' if the worse comes to the worse.

So - no gardening for moi right now.

We've called him 'Minou' not very original in this part of the world. Wish him luck.

Oh gj! Poor little thing. I hope he makes it through. Good on you for doing that.

I was only saying to the S.O. last week when we were out walking and saw the combines in the fields, that I always worry about cats at harvest time; I've known several that have been badly injured at this time of year.Could you put antibiotics in his food to try to prevent any infection?

A disaster around here with leverets and fawns - farmers I know who get so upset about it- but they just do not have the time to walk all the field before harvesting or hay making

Some harvesters now have warning systems- but early days yet. Some areas have volunteers who walk the field the day before or observe with binocs.

We gave him left-over antibiotics for 4 days- but when I asked the vet, he said, no, let nature takes its course and monitor carefully.

Anyhow- should open another thread about poor little Minou.
