wish I could do that

This is about skills others can do and you admire and wish you could do the same.

Being caravanners we often spend time in service areas and have to go in the HGV section. The skill these drivers have in backing up their huge vehicles leaves me in awe. DH makes a valiant attempt with the van but doesn't always pull it off. This is in spite of taking a maneuvering course.

Wobbly, grin

Wobblybits Mon 12-Sept-16 09:10:31

Seriously, I do wish I could sing.

Wobblybits Mon 12-Sept-16 09:08:32

I am so lucky, I can do everything perfectly, here is the list in order of expertise.

Lying
Brain surgery
Astro physics
Olympic Athelete
etc etc.

I wish I could understand people. I have colleagues less than half my age who know how people are going to react to other people and events and have made really good choices when taking on new girls. I wouldn't know where to start if I had to conduct a job interview.

Not around...

Anya Mon 12-Sept-16 08:43:46

Hope you're now around if I keel over then hmm

I wish I could get my head under water when swimming without going into complete panic mode.
I wish I could concentrate on something and follow through to the bitter end without giving up half way....
I wish I could be more decisive
I wish I could paint what is in my head
I wish I could play the piano without having to read music

I wish I could be the sort who would rush to the aid of someone who has say collapsed in the street. I can't, I would look the other way fear sort of overtakes me.

There are hundreds of things I can't do that I wish I could - drive, swim (properly), play the piano, speak a foreign language, knit, sew. Oh, I'd better stop there, I'm depressing myself.

Not that I would do it, or indeed want to, seeing generally a young man run up to a fence/wall and place two hands on it and leap over it. I am the sort that has trouble clambering over a style.

Greyduster we are currently at a Warner hotel jazz weekend. I am amazed to watch several 60-70+ yr old couples jiving like they're in their 20s. Awesome.
I wish I could paint and sing in tune. My whole family would agree with the latter grin

I keep thinking about that Charleygirl but also I think maybe a couple of sessions with a hypnotist?? Yes my licence is up to date - well I am 68 so I guess it is?

When my husband renews the car insurance he always puts me on it so I guess he has faith in me - but sadly I don't have faith in me shock

I wish I could sing. I have never been a very good singer but, having had laryngophayngeal reflux that affected my vocal cords, my voice has been even worse. How lovely it would be to stand up with a great choir and blast out the Hallelujah Chorus and other wonderful choral works.

tanith Sun 11-Sept-16 18:39:58

I would also like to learn languages one of my grandsons is bi-lingual Spanish/English and I've tried courses but it doesn't seem to stick with me.

Greyduster Sun 11-Sept-16 18:34:58

I would love to be able to jive, but never could get the hang of it. Probably look totally silly now even if I could! I would also like to play with the Grimethorpe Colliery Band, but unfortunately I can only play the piano (and not very bad well at that!).

Wobblybits Sun 11-Sept-16 18:12:22

I would also love to learn hoe to lay bricks, a good wall is a joy to behold. The experts make it look so easy, but when I have tried the result looks like a five year old has done it (and that is insulting to some 5 year olds)

Charleygirl Sun 11-Sept-16 18:11:07

DanniRae why do you not book yourself a couple of hours lessons? That will give you the confidence (or not) to continue on your own. Is your licence up to date?

Newquay Sun 11-Sept-16 18:05:45

Oh Shysal my DH always says he wants to be a bricklayer when he grows up for the same reasons you have too?

suzied Sun 11-Sept-16 17:43:06

I would like to be fluent in lots of languages, better still, bilingual.

shysal Sun 11-Sept-16 17:43:03

I would love to have learnt to be a plasterer or bricklayer. The neat results of both are so pleasing to the eye. I would particularly like to be able to build a 'barley sugar twist' chimney stack. I suffer from vertigo, so I have no chance of achieving this ambition!

DanniRae Sun 11-Sept-16 17:38:18

I wish I could get in our car and drive it. I passed my test a number of years ago, had my own car, but I would get so nervous at the thought of driving I would make any excuse to get out of it. Eventually I just gave it up all together but I still hope one day I will feel brave enough to get behind the wheel again!

Charleygirl Sun 11-Sept-16 17:28:40

I used to be able to dance, having learned from an early age. Those days are long gone, too much metal in my joints now.

I can swim and drive. I only learned to do the latter- my ex told me that I would never manage because I was too stupid- wrong- I passed my test first time and that was when I was under stress of him having walking out.

KatyK Sun 11-Sept-16 17:18:16

I can't drive or swim. I should have learned to do both. I envy dancers and people who sing and dance in musicals.

Alima Sun 11-Sept-16 17:15:49

I have always wanted to be able to dance. Although I managed to dance the polka in school wet weather PE lessons it is not the same as being able to nonchalantly take to the floor with a quickstep or jive. I never got further than bobbing up and down dancing around my handbag.

phoenix Sun 11-Sept-16 17:14:55

Sue I have a theory that everyone can sing, they just need to find the right song!
