Am I the only person who didn't know this?

I love swimming when I go on holiday but have always hated the fact that if you pop to the loo while still wet you then have that thing of trying to pull the soggy swimsuit back up - it seems disproportionately impossible! II'm really not one for a bikini so summer after summer for the last 40 odd years have found myself virtually contorting myself in poolside toilets trying to get the wretched thing back on.

Yesterday I met a friend for a quick swim at the local pool - she had come on from a lunch party and was wearing her swimsuit under her clothes. When I expressed consternation (how did you manage to go to the loo all day without taking everything off?) she just looked at me as though I was mad and said "by pulling it to the side out of the way and just going - everyone does that, don't they?

Do they? It had never occurred to me! I can see that it makes absolute sense and would solve the issue, but until I get the chance to try I'm unconvinced about the logistics smile

If you have problems with clothes and a slightly damp body, try a cool hairdryer over the offending areas. Works a treat. I do it regularly after a bath or a shower.

So relieved (!) to hear people getting OUT of pool to pee as I've stopped going swimming since Rebecca Adlington said they all pee IN the pool
I thought I was the only one who left the pool to relieve myself
I was surprised because at the time there didnt seem to be much of a reaction to it

I have always pulled the gusset of the costume to one side. It only works if you want a pee though.

I am going to have to practise at home first because I roll the whole thing down then have to get it back up again.

I'm sure it will go everywhere.

I hope this makes sense. To allow you to have two hands free, supposing that you swipe to the right, if you pull the left hand side up ( exposing your left cheek) this keeps the gusset in place on its own.

Yes, I always do it and have never had a problem. I get some loo paper before I start, pull the crotch of my swimsuit to one side and once I've had a wee, hold it there until I've had a wipe so I don't dribble. Job done.

Atqui Mon 12-Sept-16 18:18:19

Having read all the "Doesn't everybody , it's obvious " posts, I'm now worried there is something wrong with me.

pollyperkins Mon 12-Sept-16 17:49:38

I went swimming today and took special notice how I did the side swipe. I had one hand right at the front and one at the back and pulled the cozziewell to the left - nowhere near the stream so to speak! Dead easy. Then continued to hold costume aside with one hand whie i wiped with the other. No problem. Cant believe Im describing this on a public forum!

This had not crossed my mind either until my teenage granddaughter told me to (with much eye rolling!!!).

GrammaH Mon 12-Sept-16 08:18:51

Yes, I'm a side swiper too - my mum taught me when I was little & I've never given it a thought & imagined everyone did it! Just back from a week in the sun by the sea - I can still do it with ease!

tanith Sun 11-Sept-16 22:28:15

Jaxie why would you stand? Just sit as normal and side swipe or hover if you want.

Jaxie Sun 11-Sept-16 22:11:47

But surely if you stand up to pee your feet get splashed: it's not as if you have a pipe on the front to direct the stream, as men do.

I am an ex competitive swimmer and I was a pro at this ha ha

Something I`ve always done and now I`ve taught my young granddaughters how to do this.

I was always one of those who struggled to get her ' Cozzie' down when going to the loo on holiday. Speaking to one of my sisters, who also holidays in the same Cypriot resort as me and my husband, her response was 'Pull the crotch bit to one side and just pee!! Yes, of course, it works!! Just go for it, we're grown ups, and even if you pee on your hand, there's soap and water! Stop stressing!!

trisher Sun 11-Sept-16 20:17:58

I understand where she was coming from. I did have children who wore their swimsuits under their clothes occasionally and one boy who forgot his underpants. The time we spent hunting round the changing room before he admitted what had happened, his distress when he realised he had to go without pants, and the laughter this caused when his mates told the rest of the class all meant we were considerably delayed and late back to school. The wearing of swimsuits under clothes was a rare occurrence after that!

Purpledaffodil Sun 11-Sept-16 18:45:18

I always thought sideswipe was what everyone did, but years ago I worked with a childless teacher who forbad little girls and boys to wear their swimsuits under their clothes on swimming lesson days in case they needed to wee before the lesson. When I pointed out that the girls could and would sideswipe and the boys could put their penises over the top of their Speedos (not allowed swim shorts either) she was surprised, but would still not allow it "they might forget to pack their pants". Ooh she was a control freak ! We did not get on. angry

Trisher I always have a hot coffee as soon as I get up. In the pool for 0630 and then half way through need a pee. So getting Out of the cossie is not an option when getting back in the pool

DanniRae Sun 11-Sept-16 17:50:40

Thanks Newquay for clearing that up. I guess I am ok as I have had a complete hysterectomy and all bits (sorry for using a difficult technical term there!)have been removed. blush

Newquay Sun 11-Sept-16 17:45:05

Yes Ana and Dani rae. Talc has been linked with ovarian cancer. Such fine dust can get carried internally. Makes sense I suppose as, if you were working in dusty environment, you would wear a dust mask.

Grannynise Sun 11-Sept-16 17:23:22

If you're at the beach it's surely not a problem. Just get back in the sea.wink

DanniRae Sun 11-Sept-16 17:21:03

That was for Ana

DanniRae Sun 11-Sept-16 17:20:18

Apparently Johnson's Baby Powder or any talc can be bad for you if you put it on or near your intimate area - sorry can't think of a better term - as it can be transferred to inside your body and cause serious problems. I have read about this and not sure how true it is??

granfromafar Sun 11-Sept-16 16:45:58

Trisher - it must be something about being in the water that always makes me want to go as soon as I get out the pool, even if I've gone before swimming! Have done the sidesweep method for quite a while and have never got wet hands!
