Something I haven't done for years...

I loved the bath in my old house, chosen by me for its depth and length, with taps on the side within easy reach.
The bath in the new house is a funny shape and narrow! A bit coffin like IMO! But, the rain shower is fantastic, involves putting on a shower cap or washing my hair.

Unfortunately the bathroom is quite new, so I can't justify replacing it!

I love a bath, I never feel properly clean with only a shower.

I know how you feel Anya. The first bath I had, three weeks after breaking my leg, was heavenly even though it was practically an industrial manoevre to get me in and out without getting my leg wet.

I probably have a bath every few weeks - I have long hair and find it much easier to wash it in the shower which is also quicker - our bath takes ages to run. We did renovate our main bathroom a few years ago and replaced the bath with a large corner shower - the en-suite is bigger than the main bathroom though so kept the bath in there. I'm also finding it harder to get out of as time goes on even though it has handles. Definitely an issue as my parents got older so we bought one of the rise and fall seats for them which was ok for the carers and I to bathe my dad. He hated having a bath though and had to be cajoled into the bathroom with lots of patience!

Personally I find a shower dilutes the drink and makes the pages hard to turn over

I have the same problems as Jane10, would love a bath because of my back and leg pains, but cannot get out of the bath once i have finished, so its showers only, also have to use the shower to wash my hair because i cannot bend over sink/bath to do it because of neck problem (i go giddy).

I love reading in the bath, but have to be careful when using my Kindle!

It's a real nuisance getting older. Like other posters the bath scares me now since I had a struggle to get out. I used to jump in and out without a second thought, never thought it would come to this, oh well could be worse.

Yes. So many things I used to do without a second thought. I'm feeling very depressed about it all. Its quite scary really to suddenly just not be able to do quite everyday things. Sorry. Just feeling down.

Same here Falconbird, shower is much easier especially to wash hair.
But on the subject of doing something not done for years, OH and I paddled along the edge of the sea in Adelaide
last year and thoroughly enjoyed our second childhood!

No bath here, so it's showers only. I do long for a bath
but think I would have trouble climbing out these days.
Something I haven't done for years? Well, yesterday I drove to a pub way out in the countryside where I hadn't been for absolutely yonks. So while there I booked a table for 5 to take my chums for lunch tomorrow.

Nope ....not had a bath in years ! same problem here ...cannot get out !!! ,,,so now have a walk in shower (still got the bath, but neither of us use it any more .....the bath has a shower over it as well, but still have the problem of getting out as sides are high, so only use the other one...still have to bend down to clean the bath, however, as spiders and moths seem to love it !

I can't safely get in and out of the bath now. Bakers Cyst suddenly appeared behind one knee, plus arthritis now discovered! I used to work for Social Services running a team who cared for the elderly, and saw so many accidents with baths, due to stubborn clients refusing to accept that they were no longer as limber and fit as they used to be. I promised myself I would get whatever equipment I needed when the time came. I am about to purchase a rise and fall bath seat on Amazon. £190 and it goes down to 2" from the bottom of the bath, and rises to the level of the top so you can just swing legs over. I currently only shower, so it will be a huge treat to have a safe bath.

I like a shower, but would dearly love the luxury of being able to soak in a gorgeous pampering bath with lots and lots of pretty bubbles, soft lights, comforting music and a favourite book, followed by being caressed by ovely warm soft huge towels (dealt with, of course, bu the handsome hunk of masseur! Well, a girl can dream, can't she? lol

When I replaced my bathroom suite 10years ago, I foolishly replaced it with an aluminium bath without handles. How I regret it now.

Have to lever myself up holding on to taps at the end of bath,
Can still do it ok, but would be easier with handles.

I hate showers, I don't think they reach all the 'parts' properly. Theres nothing like a good old soak in the bath. I have to get out these days by turning over and getting onto my knees and then standing up by gripping the side of the bath. When I broke my elbow, other half had to come and get me out of the bath by wrapping me in a towel and holding on for dear life as I got to my feet, it was such a relief when my elbow healed. Not quite ready for the rail at the side yet.

Shower every morning but like to soak/read/sleep in the bath when I'm stressed or ultra cold - or feeling sorry for myself! Struggle to get out but have always forgotten that bit by the next time.

Old goose I agree completely. Frequently argue with the family about this. Dont feel properly clean after a Shower. How do you wash your feet properly without fAlling over? Not to mention unmentionable parts! Also dont want to wash my hair every day. I have a bath (with handles) every morning and also get out by tucking my leg under me so i am on one knee. Long may it continue - i dread giving up my bath!

True about showers not reaching all 'parts'. Especially those awful fixed rain showers. #contortions

Had a rise and fall seat fitted at my previous flat as I can't put pressure through my knees to stand up from a bath. Unfortunately this flat only has a shower and I do so miss my relaxing soaks. I always used a moisturiser in the bath but now have to slather it on after as my skin gets so dry with the shower.

On the subject of hairstyles, I had mine cut a couple of weeks ago from shoulder length to earlobe length and I HATE it. Wish I hadn't had it cut yet it had been short for years before. Oh well, maybe have to get a wig

Always a bath for me, Except in a heatwave, a shower is just too chilly. Luckily there's a telephone shower on the bath taps so I can wash my hair.

I wash my hair in the bath. I prefer baths to showers. I just lather it, and lie down in the bath to rinse it, and then a final rinse from the shower attachment whilst sitting in the bath.
